And when your grandchildren discover your knitting journals they will find a new connection with you Kay. The written word and your illustrations will provide insight and perhaps inspiration. It’s a beautiful legacy. I wrote the above before I’d watched your Dales walk Dan and I must add that your film is stunning. I really appreciate that you haven’t put music over it. The sounds of nature are wonderful.
Come for the knitting, stay for the dales. Honestly, this series is breathtaking. Especially this episode. The view from that bench at the beginning actually made me gasp at its' beauty. I have to give a nod to your brother for the music. I would love a CD of that to play in the background as I sit on my porch and knit. Great, great series.
Have to agree about the ribbed socks. I used to make them for my dad, he loved them. He had bandaged feet in the end and only my hand-knit ribbed socks would fit and keep his cold feet warm. I so enjoy your show!
The Holst Garn does have a lot of spinning oil in it still and it blooms a lot when you wash and block it, especially the super soft. The coast blooms nicely, but the super soft blooms a lot, so I’ve found that the size three needles work very well for it. I’m really loving the walking the dales series and my favourite colourway, too. Can’t wait for the next pudding club. Thanks so much for all you do for us. I really enjoy watching you guys!
Becoming a patron is the best thing I have done for a long while. If anybody out there is thinking about it - go ahead- you won't regret it. There is so much to see. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I have to say I have a tear in my eye quite regularly when you are doing the walks. They ae so beautifully done.
Good morning , you’re both looking well . I’ve never made a pair of socks and never had the desire to until now. First I have to buy the right yarn, then I’ll get started. Love your note book idea, I’m a note book nut but with no direction, if only I had written down all the things I’ve made over the years. I’m 72 years old, but it’s never too late...... right.
lol Dan the faces you were making smelling the holstgarn cracked me up. Don't worry it is fine and crunchy now but when washed & blocked "the oil still in it now" it will end up great. Kate make sure you swatch and wash before you decide needle size. Enjoy
You should defo have a seperate channel for your Dales walks. There's a call for 'slow TV' like this. I have spent some happy hours walking the Dales while on holiday there, it's lovely to see it again. Also Chanterelles are yellow! :-D
Your shows are such a treat! So many special things combine to make it like no other. Husband and wife knitters, your fun interactions with each other, Dan’s family background in show business - musical skill - technology know how, Kay’s knitting expertise, attention to detail, lovely accent, delight in all things adorable, and last but not least Dom’s amazing music. I put my ear buds in for the walk in the dales like Kay said and wow so wonderful!!! I would happily watch a much longer version of that on Patreon...
Kay, I like how you keep hand-written knitting, design and pattern notes. I do so much on the computer, but lately I’ve been using my sketch book and notebook more. It is fun and helps me slow down and enjoy the process more. I’m going to try to transition to using the computer less. I ordered some colored pencils and other journaling supplies, and I’m awaiting the package. Dan, walking the dales is so soothing and relaxing. I enjoy the sights and sounds and your notes about plants, location, etc. Kevin appears to be doing a good job, too.
Kay think you will like the Holst. I am using the Supersoft and it is toothy when you are working with it but once it is washed it is so soft. I am making a colorwork cardigan and using a 3.5mm needle which makes a lovely fabric. Dan loved your hike and the gorgeous photography. The drone shots were breathtaking. Have a great time off.
😂😂😂😂 OMG Dan! Your face when you smelled that yarn at the end. Loved the walk thru the Dales again. Makes me wanna go for a nature walk too. Great job!
It's all your fault. Because of you, I have ordered 4 balls of Regia Merino Yak, and I am completely addicted! I LOVE IT. I am now working on a pair of vanilla socks with a 3 x 1 rib on the leg. I think this pair will be a Christmas gift for my son. Thank you! Kay, I have learned so much from your patterns and tips. You both do the knitting world a great service!
I’m so glad to have found your podcast . I was gifted a couple of balls of Holst with the cotton content and made a simple loose fitting cardigan which I wore so much last winter indoors ! Yes it is very light and blooms beautifully. I think a hat would be perfect. It goes a long way !
I love the sock template! Dan and Kay I just love to watch you both. I love your projects. I am sitting here finishing the heel on the umbrella sock pattern my first toe up sock ever.Walking the Dells is such a lovely addition. In a year that we cannot travel I get to watch the amazing and beautiful landscapes of the Yorkshire dales with you.
Kay, I LOVE your sock book! I have one, but I really like your sock template and how you colour it in! I am going to go back and do that in my book, because I don't necessarily recall what the sock looks like just from the name and yarn scrap I attach.
Holst Garn super soft plumps up quite a lot. I’ve just swatched in it and you do need to wash and block the swatch and let it dry before measuring for gauge. It’s amazing!
So many beautiful things. The Walk... WOW! Just beautiful. The sights were stunning. My question...did you have to walk all the way back as well????? And that sweater is just lovely. It truly was a labour of love for both of you and a treasure it will be for years to come. Thank you for all your dedicated work to bring a beautiful show. It was wonderful.
Thank you so much Kathy - all the walks in the series are circular so you are with me start to finish. That’s why we put on the OS Map references just in case anyone wants to follow along on the map. Dan x
Can you’ll be fine I use a US five needle to knit sweater with a color work yolk on the host super soft and I used a size 9 to do a lease trim on a vintage sweater with the Holst post and then the garment was nuts in various needle sizes for waist shaping from 3 to 5 US once it washes it blooms and there are no gaps in the holes it’s wonderful.
Great idea to try knitting with different needles but not like I recently did. I decided to work on a UFO but didn’t like the double pointed needles used on the first sock so did magic loop on the second one. Apparently my tension is completely different on double points but I like the fabric better on magic loop so now I have to make a third sock so I’ll have a pair that matches! This is the sort of thing that keeps me from knitting socks!! 🤬 I really want to enjoy knitting socks but I’m not there yet! ☺️
An interesting little tidbit (figured Dan would especially appreciate this oddity!), those tiny babies are used in the US, in New Orleans particularly during Mardi Gras in King cakes. I believe whoever cuts the piece with the baby has good luck.
I love you two, and your senses of humor! So important in a marriage! I was married to Oscar the grouch for 26 years! Not fun. Catching up on old episodes.
Kay! The Holst gram is amazing. I have cones and cones of it. I’ve knit two hats with it. One hat I knit with one strand and the other I doubled. It really does bloom! And it really does get soft!
I really enjoyed this episode especially as we visited Arkangarthdale for New Year a couple of years ago, staying in a cottage near the CB Inn. It really is a beautiful part of the world. Just thought I should let you know that all of the links in the show notes send you back to TH-cam.
Loved the special buttons on the sweater that Dan knit for you❣️😊 just perfect for such a beautiful sweater. Kay loved your new shawl...the color is perfect with your coloring...very pretty on you.. Dan I’m knitting my 2nd Alaska hat for my other grandson. I give my adult grandsons their choice between socks or a hat for Christmas. Patrick told me he wanted one like I knit for Russell last year. I think I will have enough left of the Knit Pick’s Chroma for a 3rd hat even! I might knit one for me. lol
I always called my English Grandfather Granda. Sounds funny hearing you saying Grandpa. I have lived in the USA most my life. American Grandfather we knew as Grandpa :-).
Wow i enjoyed walking with u . Theres a guy podcast called ''relaxing walker '' he walks all over Israel and beside the Mediteranean sea . Its very relaxing indeed !!!
Loved today’s journey. So exquisitely beautiful!! Your music choice draws me in. Perfect! Kay, I might do Cowboys and Angels in a single fingering to get a smaller shawl. It is soooooo beautiful!
I noted your walking bare legged through the abundant vegetation. Do have much of a challenge with Arachnida (ticks)? Thank you for the wonderful presentation of a beautiful place!
Do you do the walks by yourself? Or does Kay film you? I couldn’t figure out how you film yourself from behind when we are watching you walking away... quite the walk!!
And when your grandchildren discover your knitting journals they will find a new connection with you Kay. The written word and your illustrations will provide insight and perhaps inspiration. It’s a beautiful legacy.

Honestly this series has kept me sane this year. Just knitting, walking, lovely music, and scenery creating utter peace. Thank you so much.
I could not have said it better. Yes, thank you.
Have to agree about the ribbed socks. I used to make them for my dad, he loved them. He had bandaged feet in the end and only my hand-knit ribbed socks would fit and keep his cold feet warm. I so enjoy your show!
Beautiful shawl Kay and love ur knitting Dan

This walk is definitely one of my favourite so far too, thanks for sharing!
Awwwww, Kay, those buttons!!! 💗
I found this so very beautiful and stunning and awe inspiring and peaceful. Thank you ☺️ more than words can say.

Once again a puré delight to watch and so much to see and learn . Thankyou both for all your hard work ❤❤❤❤❤
Awe wow really respect your comment about needing wanting to walk the Dales and previous health stuff. Keep up the good work with your channel 🧶🌷🧣

I have just started a .list of all my knits and I started knitting in the 1960's.

Best walk so far! Excellent footage; love the intro graphic.
Love the show and the Dales....keep up the great work.
Breathtaking views of Walking the Dale!!! Professionally filmed and narrated. Enjoyed it so much that I had to stop knitting and watch this segment.

Oh wow, that walk was so beautiful and peaceful! Thank you!
First time watching your podcast, nice! The Dales were beautiful.
Thank you for another great episode ❤️
That was Amazing!

😂😂😂😂 OMG Dan! Your face when you smelled that yarn at the end. Loved the walk thru the Dales again. Makes me wanna go for a nature walk too. Great job!
Walking the Dales continues to be my favorite! Great show as always!!

Hahahaha the tiny babies, i love it! I suspect they are for King Cakes, as well as party favors. How fun.

I love the idea of your sock journal...especially the sock template
The tiny babies are also baked into King cakes for Mardi Gras - if you get the piece with the baby , good luck!!!

I think your pink yarn could be named after the Pig’s Ear mushrooms, aka Violet Chanterelle.

Wear it like a Scottish wrap tucked top the back of waste it's beautiful 😍

Oh candy skein now has a shop near me in Astoria, Oregon (US)! So happy that you have some of their yummy yarn. 🍬
Wonderful show and shawl.
I had the same set from LHY and it matched the butterfly fabric for the bag that came with the sets 😀
I always called my English Grandfather Granda. Sounds funny hearing you saying Grandpa. I have lived in the USA most my life. American Grandfather we knew as Grandpa :-).
Loved it when the cows started following.
However having had that happen, it IS quite unnerving.
Wow i enjoyed walking with u . Theres a guy podcast called ''relaxing walker '' he walks all over Israel and beside the Mediteranean sea . Its very relaxing indeed !!!

Thankfully no we don’t have a problem with ticks on humans here
haha My family liked a bit jokes ;)
i leave in Yorkshire but i dont go for a walk there, i feel a bit like i should..
I think the Lama you saw, was an Alpaca!!!
They had made years ago a baby in a baby bed. I have the one my grandmother had. But those babies were small and didn't have hair.
Can you please plan a walking & knitting tour for me Dan....I’ll fly over!! I’m serious!
Oh Kay I would love to knit that shawl, but I have bobblephobia
A leather shawl cuff also would be pretty. Do you have one?
Do you do the walks by yourself? Or does Kay film you? I couldn’t figure out how you film yourself from behind when we are watching you walking away... quite the walk!!
Hi Susan - thanks so much! The walks are just me. I could tell you how I get the shots but that might spoil the magic 🤐😉 Dan
I like my socks to be ‘sucky up’ too. 😉
Chantelles can be yellow, orange, gray, black or brown in North America.
ok. Better coin that "sucky-in"!
