Just saw this. I instantly wanted to watch it again! Being South Asian American I’m partial to movies about these kinds of cultural conflict, and being a huge fan of Scott Pilgrim I love the surreal martial arts as metaphor for personal conflict.

Went to watch this last night as I knew it would hardly get support since I haven’t seen much marketing for it, but it was honestly really fun

India has its own marital arts: KALARIPAYATTU. Its insanely fierce and intense.
Hopefully they took the opportunity to spotlight that. They probably didn't. -_-

But they're Pakistani tho? How would a Pakistani, let alone most of the North Indian people know about kalari when it's a Kerala and Tamil martial art?

I thought it was pretty good, but most of the humor didn't really work for me. The stylized action, uncomfortable villains, and pace were great, and I wished it wouldve leaned much harder into it.

I thought the movie had a LOT of man hating parts, she went from being a girl with ambition to a modern feminist that that dislikes men, saying men are just handed things and the world bows to them, and this as she brings down a guy during karate practice symbolizing the fall of the oppressive "man's world". She looked like a vengeful and jealous person, proceeding to breaking and entering into the man's home to frame him for something he didn't do without any evidence just the never wrong "Bad b!tch" gut feeling. Trying to push parallelisms between female empowerment = trashing men.
It also felt like another "woke" product hating on marriage and placing traditional values in a dark light. Basically implying any person that wants to get married and start a family is not chasing their dreams and throwing their life away.
Relentless attempt from "Woke" modern media to eradicate all the old values and ironically using dark ages techniques of throw "rocks" and "cabbages" at the old and traditional. There are so many ways to have the main characters evolve to being happy without the hyperbolized symbolisms of destroying a wedding, kicking masculinity in the nuggets and escaping the "choke" of society and showing it as the only way for these girls to be happy and freely dance in the rooftop.
I did like how the character was persistent with her dream and she did not stop at trying to contact her role model despite many failed attempts. I liked her confidence at standing up to a bully much bigger than her and continue to fight.
I really liked the love she showed for her family especially her sister, she was able to gain the respect and form a bond with the other girl despite not seeing eye to eye with her. Movie showed that you can enjoy the simple things in life and a precious moment can even be in a burger at a fast food place.

your victim complex is ruining you perception of the movie. riya says that speech about hating men and marriage for two reasons. Because her sister is actually being changed and throwing away her dreams, and because she is scared that her sisters are leaving, this does not mean that is the message this movie is trying to convey that message. This is quite obvious with the tone, they have already established riya as quite dramatic and over the top. And secondly, her breaking into the house to plant that fake evidence is unhinged. The movie very obviously painted that as unhinged and to show her desperation with trying to keep her sister for herself. This is again obvious because at that point the movie is still having us question if the dude is actually evil or not. Please try to think about why you got triggered so easily instead of siting to think about the film without bias.
