According to Tom Silva (general contractor on This Old House) and other experts, drip edge is supposed to have a gap behind it and not be tight to the fascia. He told a young female intern this when showing her how to install drip edge, stating it should have a gap of about a fingers width.
Ask This Old House has a video where they test different drip edge installations showing this as well and the importance of the gap.
The purpose of the gap is to make sure the water doesn’t run down the fascia.
well it is to late now.
Ideally that would be the case in a perfect world.
Reality is, rain doesn’t come down straight when you factor in wind anyways. Siding, trim, and fascia will be brushed with rain as is, so the 1/4” gap isn’t really beneficial. It’s a “nice but not necessary” practice.
Whether it is shingles or roofing panels, they both extend a little further past the fascia for water run off, so the way Martin did it, should be sufficient enough.
Just hanging there, you all are almost completely your house. Beautifully job, God bless you all😊

Awesome farm & homestead…! Now you guys are metal roofing experts… Perfect job… Cool little chicks too btw… it would be cool if y’all collected the rain water off the roof in to rain barrels… on the porch where you have the steps going down to the ground… are there any plans for adding steps on the rest of that porch so y’all wont have to jump down like Jules did in this video…?

Marty if the bird pecks at you grab hold of it and hold it down on the ground between your knees so it cant flap or stand for 15 to 30 seconds. That will reset it's behavior.
The front porch needs that final 22" piece to match.

Great job with the back porch roof looks like it was professionally done Julie sounds like she has a cold or getting over a cold . Marty you'll have to watch that Cockerell. I had one a few years ago and it attacked us all on our homestead got so bad well let's say it made a sure tasty dinner . Some male Cockerell get just to aggressive sometimes enjoyable video thank you

Always get side by side with Mr Roo. Never frontal they take that as an attack, even some hens too. Never come from the side or behind. Walk with them till you are close enough and pick them up if that is the goal. They and even some hens will peck you from behind turn slightly they will usually get in a submissive posture and you can manage them from there. I have a hen that loves to come up behind me - peck me - I turn and she gets a flat as flat can be and wants picked up and acknowledge and not for long, she wants back down. Learn them - each of them - I keep my flock small so I can get to know each of them. It is not easy to manage a flock if you don't know each of them and their needs.

The biggest problem is getting it straight.
