The official drawing of lots took place in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament playing hall in Wijk aan Zee. The results of the drawing of lots are officially approved by the arbitration. Based on the drawing of lots the playing schedule for the 13 rounds has been made.
Already in the first round, there will be some exciting games. World Champion Magnus Carlsen will play against top talent Alireza Firouzja and Harikrisna Pentala will face Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Defending champion Fabiano Caruana will meet the Dutch Grand Master Jorden van Foreest.
The games will start on the 16th of January at 14:00 (CET). Chess enthusiasts can follow the games via our international live stream.

the dog capturing the trash can was the best move ngl
this game was so exciting to watch, as at one point it turned into a blitz game, with both players under a minute to make more than a dozen moves. Caruana at one point was down to 19 seconds and you should have made it clear that the seemingly pointless repeated queen checks by white were executed mostly to just gain time (by the rules of the tournament, each move adds 30 seconds to the clock and it also brings you closer to the additional 50 minutes that you get after move 40)
Exactly, fabi made a move with 10 seconds on the clock and it was stressful to even watch the clock running down
@@syn3rman65 I was watching it live and i think just before Fabi got the extra fifty minutes he let his clock go down to two seconds before making a move. Exciting stuff.
also duda after Ne6 went down to 9 minutes against 40 minutes for caruana and still was able to defend

I'm not good at positioning and all but somehow my instinctive mind spotted the same move.
I guess you spot it right away if you have played enough chess and recognise the pattern. But once he said a4, it was so obvious why it's a good move!
Always feels good to get one thing right, especially in such a sharp game. Well done haha.

Oh wow... A year ago in the tata steel tournament caruana played duda and agad used the exact same title. I wouldn't have remembered if that weren't one of my favorite matches to rewatch. I really appreciate the level of attention you put into this Antonio. Good stuff!

Everyone gets excited how Fabi played but I would like to congratulate Duda for the best game in tournament , courge and drawing with black against Caruana.
You say "don't watch this", and yet, this is one of the best videos I have seen here. You have both players threatening checkmate on opposite sides of the board in an incredibly complex position where, as you said yourself, you can spend several minutes analysing every move. I like these longer videos on complicated classical games!
And it was in this position when I showed my family and friends from the bar and library the UNBELIEVABLE move...

First time I watch an analysis about a Caruana game. Loved his playstyle, always with tricky moves, thinking way ahead and super aggresive.

I really really appreciate how Agadmator explains these high-level games in such a way that it makes a novice player like me feel like I'm Part Of It.
I get stressed when I play online chess so I'm unrated. And I couldn't possibly understand all the little complexities and unmentioned threats on my own, nor could I see what positions were critical junctures nor whose position was better at various points in the game for what reasons. I can barely solve Forced Mate in Two puzzles. But this channel makes me feel like, just maybe, I could play a good game someday.

Caruana deserved a victory though, so sad he couldnt convert it,kudos to duda for such accurate defending

Fabi tries to make his games complicated for the opponent to not understand the position and ends up making them too complicated that he himself fails to find the winning moves at the end..

I just watched the game live not long prior to this recording. Hard to believe the turnaround.Agadmator is such a bright, nice guy. Would love to meet him. Most people this competent - aren’t this helpful and have substantial egocentric aspects to their personalities.

Interesting what you said about Peter Leko, as he alluded to similar in the live feed yesterday - he said his technique was always excellent, but he wasn't good enough to get the sorts of positions (like Magnus, Fabi etc) with that slight edge from which to press that technique. Leko's doing fantastic work on the livestream, hopping from game to game, offering incredible evaluations and lines.
Complements to both players for a great game. This is great chess.
