@@walterkovacs7365 Only one line for Giri, if he takes that line every line for Alireza allows winning moves for Giri. Of course this only becomes clear by using a chess engine so Giri has many points to miss winning lines and after he does Alireza has plenty of opportunities to miss drawing lines

Anything can happen still, I'd say Giri has a good chance to win but that chance is still below 50%. He has 3 strong players trailing 0.5 pt behind him, and none of them will play against each other. That means if any one of them gets a win then Giri cannot go for a draw. So statistically, it's more likely one of those 3 will take a win, than the chance of Giri winning (not drawing or losing) the last game.

I want people to spare a thought for Anish. How tormented the guy must be and the shudder and pressure he must have felt when he realised the game will be a draw. Alireza played really well. But i genuinely think it’s the ‘draw jokes’ that defeated him. Still hats off to Anish to still come for the interview with a smile on his face, despite all the draw videos incoming from chess content creators over the next 24 hrs. Hope he wins with black pieces tomorrow.

He is basically the engine translator here. Which is why you don't need the engine here. For example an engine would just say that this position is winning or drawish but he tells us that and also explains why. He is not telling us his thiughts or analysis. He is telling us the analysis after consulting the engine and translating that to human terms.
