The 85th edition of the Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 14-29 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads a field that includes Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana and teenage stars Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Vincent Keymer and Praggnanandhaa.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. A tie for first place will be decided by two blitz (3+2) games. If still tied, the players keep playing single "sudden death" games where White gets 2.5 minutes and Black 3 minutes until one side wins. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. St 9:26 after Black Queen go to ef, White Queen go tof7 check. Black has only 2 moves. If Black Queen block with g7 then White exchange queens followed by Pawn to d7 and there is no stopping it from queening. If Black blocks by Bishop to g7 then White moves Pawn to d7. There is no move by Black that can stop White Pawn from queening. If Black tries to move the Queen to e4 and check White simply block with his Queen at f3.

At 2:46, is there something wrong with Bh6? It looks like you just get the exchange back (and mess up the pawn structure around the king), as black has to play f6 to stop checkmate. Or is this just one of those things where that's fine, but you can go for better even while remaining down in material?
thought the same thing too, d5 Bxa1 Qxa1 followed by Bh6 and f6 is thematic in many grunfeld positions

I can't remember the last time it took 16 moves to reach a completely new game. Usually we seem to reach new territory much sooner than that.
5:16 so why was rook takes b7 bad?
Alternative proposal for pause the video moment: Bc6. It can’t be captured, otherwise the queen hangs. And black is threatening Mate in 2 (Qb1 or b2 + Qh1). I can’t come up with a defense for black. If you move the f pawn, Bf3 and white has all the same problems. Queen captures on f4 seems nice, but after Qb1, only move is Kh2 and then Be5 wins the white queen.
Any ideas on how to defend Bc6 as white??

I walk around town and tell everyone it was a crazy game.
What a brilliant game by Maghsoodloo he both created masterpieces whether he won or lost! It was such a vital tournament for him to gain elo! I still pity Arjun that the tournament went very bad for him like from 2730 to almost now 2700. I mean he's still a Super GM even now but the tournament did not go his way.

What about Bishop C6 at "the Pause the Video Moment". if he takes with rock, then you take queen. if he goes for checkmate, then you checkmate the King
I tried that line too. The problem is Qxf4 completely takes the wind out of that attack as the queen and rook now cover the c1 square so no checkmate threat. Lost a pawn for time but no real counter play.

i found Queen to a1 before pause the video moment, it seemed natural. Didnt think this would be it. But still paused and checked all the moves thinking Queen a1 must be the wrong move since its obvious, because there might be an unnatural engine move that's even better here.
