That was a really informative video! I have been thinking of changing out my drivetrain for a long time now. It's good to see how it's done with some good tips thrown in too.

It was easy to do. I say go for it!

Alot simpler than the other video i watched, he was saying you had to change the derailleur clutch on the back as it would throw the chain out

How has your son liked the 1x drivetrain compared to the 3x setup? What was the main reason for the change? Liked you video!

1x systems are much simpler, more reliable with less chain drops. The narrow wide chain ring also holds onto the chain better. My son likes the bike a lot more. He was dropping the chain often - in the video you can see how torn up the bike frame is.

@@diymountainbike maybe you son just needed to learn how to change gear properly. dropping the chain i not common on 3x systems unless it is abused or not maintaied correctly

Why convert from 3X to 1X? I'm currently looking to convert my bike to an e-bike and i noticed the converter kit only comes with 1X and the kits asks me select the number of teeth for the chainring. I'm a new rider trying to get into cycling on weekends

A 1x is much simpler for mountain biking. Trust me dude when I say that. 1 bys are much more simpler and easy to use. Less complexity, and you also have a less chance of dropping a chain on a 1 by. Definitely go with the 1x!!!!!!!

If you're getting a mid-drive electric bike kit, you will only be able to have one chain ring. The number of teeth in the ring will determine your pedal cadence. IE more teeth slower cadence pedaling. If you will be riding mostly on the road, a 44 to 52 T chainring will work. Good luck!

@diymountainbike thank you so much. This the info i was looking for. CyC Photon offers 42 and 51. So i'll take 42 for the small hills i sometimes have to traverse

just removing the front derailleur is not really a convertion. You are just removing gears. you need to also change the rear cassette to give a proper gear rage
