Acting in a movie really is something else. You mostly don't act in a movie pouring your heart out about your own situation. You create a narrative not related to you personally. As a singer you convey in the case of Linkin park pain, anger, despair etc. that had been experienced esp. by Chester Bennington. Now, not only do we not know her a lot, she is also part of a cult that is routinely on the oppressor side of abuse. This doesn't fit
People need to leave her be. They picked her. Chester is gone. Let her love us, we'll love her and the world will move on. Dragged kicking and screaming to a better day.
@@user-dt3rj8qm3k Oh comeon, you don't believe in second chances? A past is called the past, not present. If she's done anything, move on. Enjoy the now. If she continues in her crap, justice will catch up and it'll all fail.
If I was Emily, I’d just give the middle finger to the naysayers and tell em to “F’ OFF!!”, and that would be my only statement on the matter. She’s awesome and I think she is perfect for Linkin.
Okay, so...I'm going to strongly dispute this assessment of the LP mess, because it ignores the depths of just how abusive the Church of Scientology is, how they are renowned for destroying families, and (especially in the years Emily was there in the Sea Org) also known to have commited numerous human-trafficking abuses as well. She has apologized, but she literally said the same thing Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis said, which did not mention Masterson by name, nor acknowledge his victims of SA, and she was there when members of the CoS where attempting to intimidate the victims when they were making their statements. It was, in fact, an unacknowledging apology (and their reasons for that: had she been more sincere and specific, she would literally be cut off from the Church and her parents, who are still very active). Emily fully knows this. And we can "Yeah, but she wasn't an active participant" this all day, but at some point, you gotta hold a person accountable for what they continue to do, and she needs to come clean about all this, and not hide behind the it's-my-religion blanket. But that actually pales in comparision to the anger I have at LP. Emily was picked by LP to replace their beloved singer, who...suffered from SA as a child AND also suffered (and died) because of mental illness. But the Church of Scientology, and it's adherents, literally do NOT believe mental illness exists...period, fullstop. So not only should we be upset with Emily Armstrong (who, I will also say, is a "victim" of Scientology and it's teachings, lets be clear about that)....but we should be furious at LP for picking a person who is the diametric the opposite of Chester. Did they not see this coming? Was it willful ignorance? Was it intentional, as others have suggested? The answers to these questions do not make LP look any better, folks. And I get your point about separating the art from the artist, but FFS, there IS a line we can draw, and that line starts with SA, especially of children. There is no moral relativism when we are talking about human beings getting SAed. So...if that means we as a society need to punish others by, basically, NOT buying their product as a form of protest, then that needs to be done. We humans in this hyper-connected world CANNOT live in a bubble that completely ignores the artist and their art any longer...because my counterargument would be that: very few artists are completely horrible human beings, so why do we make exceptions for the likes of Emily Armstrong, Woody Allen, Klaus Kiniski, Michael Jackson, etc., just because they produce great art? Why do we not reward the GOOD human beings that produce wonderful art? Isn't that something we should aspire to?
That's the best way I have seen it all written so far. When I try to explain the reason Scientology is evil, I will lose my train of thought and it turns in to very broad strokes. My biggest concern about her links to Scientology and her ignoring of the issue is that we know what Scientology is all about and what they stand for. We don't know what her position is when it comes to Scientology because she never addressed it so to put her in a position where she is able to talk to millions of people who feel like need to be part of something, she could end up recruiting people in to Scientology. She is in a position to be a role model to millions of people but given her ties, I don't think it's responsible to put her in that position until she addresses it all. This entire thing is such a mess and it's sad to see. During the livestream, I cried several times and I was incredibly happy. The day of the stream I had Emptiness Machine on repeat for hours. I was in the comments defending the bands decision to add her to the band and try to move on but the moment I learned she and her cult tried to intimidate victims of SA and that she is part of Scientology, it was like a switch was flipped and I felt a huge betrayal. What we have now are others who feel like me and are making a fuss about having someone like her in the band and we have the rest who just want new music from LP without understanding how dangerous she is to the wider world. Because of this, it makes me angrier at Mike for putting fans in this position with his poor decision since adding her to the lineup has torn the fan base in half and created an us vs them mentality. After Chester died, the fan base came together. All LP fans were united and we wanted to be there to support the rest of the band. All of us were in agreement that what we had was beautiful. We had people who would talk about crying when they heard the old music and there would be dozens of people supporting them. When LP ended, it was very bitter sweet. It was a great band with a tragic ending but through the tragedy it united millions of people but in the last 2 weeks, all of that has been undone. I see comments now of supporters of Emily who are attacking Chester in the comments and calling others fake fans because our view doesn't align with theirs. I see people on both sides being attacked in comment sections. What this one decision has done is split the fan base and fueled hate between a previously united group and it's frustrating. What we had was beauty from tragedy and when LP is finished and put to rest, the future generations who find the music will look in to the bands history and there will be this huge black cloud over them and it'll destroy the legacy and image of the band.
@@Dave8T9 Indeed, I was also very excited and happy to the point that there will be years to come in which something interesting happens in music. And then it was shifted the longer the Scientology issue remained unaddressed, comments apparently being deleted on official LP channels. And then the treatment of Chester's mum. Arguably, you might not have to ask her permission before moving on in general, but telling that you will to her at one point (Mike and Joe independently) and then doing the whole Emily thing without going back to her smells like they knew they would fail the Chester's mum test.
I think there are more than a couple aging male rock stars who sometimes wake up in a cold sweat over things they did in their youth -- and some of those things would now be serious crimes if, indeed, they weren't crimes at the time as well.
I wouldn't think so. People in 1974 didn't live by 2024 standards, just as we don't live by 2074 standards, whatever they may be. Besides, how would you gather the evidence? The only crimes that would even apply would the the few that don't have a statute of limitations. If evidence wasn't obtainable then, why would you expect it to be now? Over a period of decades, evidence becomes destroyed or less complete. Memories falter. Witnesses become harder or impossible to find.
I have a different take on this whole thing, I think it might be a strategic marketing campaign to get people talking about Linkin Park. You know what they say, any publicity is good publicity. Like you said she didn't do anything illegal, so in the long run there shouldn't be any significant negative impact, but look how much public awareness and engagement has been created about the Linkin Park reunion because of this.
I believe in separation of art / artist in most cases (except in the case of Ian Watkins / LostProphets, that is unforgivable) but I think this has a little more depth to it than just separating art & artist. Emily’s ties to Masterson / the cult feel like a slap in the face to Chester’s legacy. So many of their fans not only connected with LP and Chester but also Chester’s story and to hire someone like Emily to “replace him” feels tone deaf and like a cash grab. This wasn’t an accidental oversight or a misjudgment- they KNEW and chose to move forward with Emily anywhere. Chester’s kid Jaime’s statement really paints the picture fairly clearly and addresses the feelings of lifelong fans. So many LP fans are victims of the very same kind of ab*se that Emily supported which is why so many people hold LP so closely to their hearts. They could have gotten ANYBODY on that stage with them and people would have supported them but you don’t hire an ab*se sympathizer and expect a positive response.
Agreed. I was excited for the new song, the new album, the new chapter... until I learned about her. That changed my outlook. While everyone is entitled to their religious beliefs, I don't have to support that members of the band I revere the most, have chosen her saying that she is a good fit for the band. If she is a good ideological fit it means that I am no longer the right fit for LP. It makes me sad to know that Chester was indeed the end. But I refuse to let the memories and his legacy die just because the band has decided to move forward with a person whose character troubles me.
Rock music doesn't champion weakness; it champions strength. People who are trying to make careers out of being offended should probably find some other type of music that would suit them better. Wearing weakness like a badge is destined to be a fad anyway because that isn't what makes the world work. Survival of the fittest doesn't mean survival of the most fragile. Life is tough. Adversity will confront you. Ultimately, you get tough or you don't make it. It's a process of attrition. For those of us who are capable of withstanding that process, I'm glad there are still people making rock music.
Hey Utkarsh, just wanted to drop a comment and letcha know I love what you're doing. Good job hitting 36k subs! Keep it up man, i hope one day our paths will cross!
I just saw some video clips of Emily. She is awesome. Slowly there is more videos of her performance. Easy on the eyes as well. They have a new single out as well and it is good.
Honestly glad you made this I was coming at it as ew Scientology gross. But yes you are right it’s not like she’s out there demanding us fans change our religion. It’s a no harm no foul thing at this point.
Rape apology and being a member of an organization that provides cover and protection for rapists. Isn't being a rebel. Instead of wishing that everyone else would just think that providing cover for rapsists, is rebellious. Why don't you try being just a little disappointed in Mike Shinoda? For making this horrible decision.
You're not putting money into the hands of a misogynist. By appreciating a Picaso painting. It's understandable why Linkin Park fans don't want to put money in the hands of a rape apologist. Who comes from a cult of rape apologists. When part of the former lead singers battle with depression. Stemmed from being s.a.ed as a kid. Popular art is always determined by public opinion. People aren't going to accept this behavior. From someone they can directly effect. By voting with their dollar and wishing isn't going to change that.
I'm a more conservative person. I like rock music and metal but I don't like the way how people are changing. I feel less and less connection with today's world as people have gone crazier by the day. And I see this also in the music industry. I am aware that I am becoming a minority and that frightens ofcourse. It is not fun to be looked down upon or being ridiculed. But I will not deviate from my core beliefs. For me as a conservative person I prefer women to be feminine. So called women who grunts and shouts and behaves like men like this new singer of Linkin Park is a big no no for me. I can give more examples like this Tim Henson guy with all his satanic tattoos and tree of death fretboard inlays. Yet, people admire and worship these crazy individuals. The world has become mad. And no, rock 'n roll is not about breaking the rules. That is punk music. Rock 'n roll is a movement, a way of doing things. It stirs things up. Rock 'n roll in my world is always for the good, to improve a situation and to express certain emotions in a healthy way.

Good video and great food for thought! Whilst I do not agree with Scientology and their BS, Emily is a good singer and a good choice for LP. We live in a world where everything not currently trendy is taboo. As soon as you fall out of the accepted norm outrage is the reaction. It's unhealthy because it doesn't allow for any different opinions to exist. At the same time it's always been hard for me to continue loving an artists music like I did before if they became very vocal on their political opinions or suddenly turned into an advocate for some "noble" cause I don't care for or agree on. Stick to your profession and keep the rest seperate (not talking about bands that started as political ones from day one obviously) One should seperate their music from their personal agenda. And in Emilys case I haven't seen her run around and praise Scientology or trying to convince people to convert. Just my 2 cents.
everyone is nuts....especially people commenting on youtube videos....most people just fail to see that they are messed up just as bad as anyone else.....it might be in different ways from each other but we are all nut jobs.
Art is about pushing the envelope. Look at what has become rather common that was risque six or so decades ago. Art is also about being strange and even weird. Dali's molten watches, Kate Bush sampling astronauts, Peter Gabriel sampling breaking windscreens, Einstürzende Neubauten recording shopping carts as percussion etc. Frame it as art and it is, more or less everything one can think of.
1. Kevin Spacey was acquitted/found innocent of EVERY SINGLE CHARGE against him. He was wrongly accused and persecuted for nothing so that analogy is invalid. 2. Emily Armstrong disavowed supporting Masterson and said she just went to court as a friend. This is being used as an excuse to throw hate her way for taking over for a beloved dead singer. 3. Bands evolve and change - this is a good thing. Human beings don't like change, so the reactions are more about the inability of the fans to accept change than any commentary on the quality of the choice of her for a singer for LP. 4. She is objectively awesome on the tracks I have heard. She is not Chester, she is not trying to be Chester and she should NOT try to be Chester. This is a new direction for Linkin Park while respecting the past of the band. Uber-fans need to get past the ghost of Chester Bennington. BTW - Lucille Ball was the first woman who appeared visibly pregnant on television. 😉
1. Yes . Agree. I saw his interview with piers Morgan 2. Yes though again I don’t know why everyone is forced to do a public apology on someone else’s behalf 3 and 4 : I feel similarly 5: okay maybe I got it mixed up but I do remember reading there was a lot of trepidation and concern about showing her pregnant
If you want to be taken serious better dont spread false facts. You may have your view on this person but saying she is a bad singer is bullshit. What's next? Does she eat puppies?
Not a Linkin Park fan. As a musician who cares about the business aspect, bad choice on their part. Chester may have sung high, not so high that another man couldn’t hit his notes with the same grit added. The fans grew up with a males tones in that voice and no matter how grit she adds she still has a feminine tone. Chester sang high but with a touch masculine tone. In the end they will find better success with a male Chester clone. Look at Journey, stupid high vocal range that a woman foul hit yet they have always choose a male replacement. It’s about tone and she doesn’t have it. Again, not a fan. Just my opinion
I think it's a good debate. I think a male replacement would have always invited direct comparison with Chester. With a different gender, I think she has the freedom to be different. I agree she is no Chester but that's an unreachable benchmark. his voice is iconic and has defined the youth of many of his fans
@@ministryofguitar I would agree she would bring a freedom to a band that had to replace a deceased singer if the band was newer with less history. Linkin Park is a brand for a generation so to change the tone of the singer for creative freedom could be detrimental to their legacy. Again think Journey or even Sublime, they know the fans will always compare the new to the original so it makes sense to find the best clone possible. Dragonforce did well bringing in a female but to play bass. Dialing in instruments tone is much easier than vocal. She added to the band without changing a lead tone. GnR “Sweet Child O’Mine” is another great example, many women can hit those notes but none have that same feel as Axl. That’s my thoughts. Keep up the good work.
@@wesdriscoll1698 no one is replacing chester they have been working for 5 years if they have chosen any male singer people will always draw unfair comparison and you said they should have find someone having exact voice as chester sorry but there isn't anyone in this case
that's exactly how I used to think to 2004. They weren't the greats like Pink Floyd or Led Zep , and they had a rapper (heresy) so I had no interest. Over time, my opinions have changed. They are incredibly influential, particularly for a bunch of modern bands. Time moves on, tastes evolve

Stick to your profession and keep the rest seperate (not talking about bands that started as political ones from day one obviously)
One should seperate their music from their personal agenda.
@@ministryofguitar True on Lucy...it was groundbreaking. They still slept in separate beds though!
Stop trying to erase Chester's legacy. Stop supporting cult members. Stop supporting bad singers.
You are right. She does not fit in the band. Shinoda is trying to destroy Chester's memory.
@@wesdriscoll1698 no one is replacing chester they have been working for 5 years if they have chosen any male singer people will always draw unfair comparison and you said they should have find someone having exact voice as chester sorry but there isn't anyone in this case
@@PepGuard-tp4nyseems like you know better than mike? It was his choice deal with it if you don't like then don't listen it is simple
I have been entirely on board with this channel but.... Linkin Park..!? One of the last 'great rock bands'? Please..... 🚮
that's exactly how I used to think to 2004. They weren't the greats like Pink Floyd or Led Zep , and they had a rapper (heresy) so I had no interest. Over time, my opinions have changed. They are incredibly influential, particularly for a bunch of modern bands. Time moves on, tastes evolve
Yeah, I was like...brah, WTF you sayin? Last great rock bands?
@@ministryofguitar Evolve is one word for it.....
