Thank you for showing emotion. I'm a 30-year veteran of the United States military and in my first assignment I volunteered to serve as a funeral detail officer as an additional duty leading a team to provide military honors to veterans throughout the state where I was assigned. I was the member of the detail who presented the flag folded from the coffin to the next of kin. I always retained my composure during the internment ceremony, but broke down in tears afterwards every time. In spite of what our popular media feeds us, I'm certain that we are much more united than divided, and make no mistake, the one thing our country does better than any other country in the world is honoring our fallen warriors, and appropriately so. I appreciate, honor, and grieve all of our fallen warriors, but I think I grieve more for those who can't appreciate the meaning of their sacrifices, as they must be soulless, and there's nothing sadder than that. God bless you.
Hi Maddy. The song was written by Country singer Vince Gill. He started it years ago when his dear friend and fellow singer/songwriter Keith Whitley died, but he couldn't find a way to finish it. Several years later Vince's brother died and he decided to try again, and managed to finish this beautiful tribute for him. Let those tears out when the spirit hits you Hon. I am a grown man and I cry over many things. Not because they're sad. but because they stir the emotions in us. Your reactions are a joy to watch Maddy. Stay safe and well and adorable!!
When you first said you wouldn't cry, I'm all like, just wait .... we are a military family. Thanks for recognizing the reverence of this. It's a hard life. My husband just retired after 20 years.
NO shame in emotions, and showing them! I'm a 50% disabled retired vet. These type videos are hard to watch, but necessary. We must all remember the sacrifice that so many made. I lost an Uncle in Vietnam. My father was a Marine. Lost an eye. Nothing is easy about war, and especially losing a loved one. Tough guys, and tough women, don't cry, right? Nope! The best of the best cry or show emotion, bc they FEEL it! Kudos to you!

No need to apologize for the emotion they evoke with their exceptional vocalization that makes you think instruments and insane harmonies are all happening at times you are not expecting or prepared to encounter as they bring the words alive in way you have never heard before. Their arrangements are sensationally good and they own the presentation in a new way that just wow you!!! They simply take a cover and make it new and make it better every time. The capability of excellence by each of the individuals in this group is off the charts awesome that allows them the flexibility to do so many types of vocalizations and to do it exceptionally well. I have not found a genre they are afraid to tackle whether individually or as a group they are amazing. Then top that off with their arrangements that augment the presentation to be "Home Free" owned. ❣

My father was in the Navy and now rests on the mountain top with his wife in Willamette National Cemetery, in Portland Oregon. While his life was not cut short like others he did bring home many photos of the horrors of WW ll. Not only the aftermath of the battles, but also the typhoon on Okinawa that did more damage to the Navy than Pearl Harbor. War and extreme weather looks pretty much the same. Some neighbors lost their son to Vietnam. Thank you for bringing this remembrance to us.
Refusing to cry is not strength. It is foolish pride. Tears cleanse the heart and the soul. It is a sign of a tender and loving soul. Another emotional song you might try when you are ready is Brothers in Arms.

They crush it every time ! Vince wrote this for his brother . He has a rendition that will fill buckets ! At george jones funeral ! I have a hard time getting through it ! Live , Love and most of all Laugh ! 😆
Living in the fact that my brothers died yet I lived sucks. There is no honor in that. We all said we would all die together, or live free. We didn't! Some of us lived, and that guilt is not what you think it is. it is the lack of honor when not dying to support and defend our brothers. Living past it is sometimes more cruel than dying. You cannot understand this, but we do. Sometimes living is worse than dying, because of our commitment and trust one to another. Love, brotherhood.
I served 24 yrs and flew the flight that brought home the 1s that didn't make it. I hated doing that flight but always volunteered my Coloneel would always say Sarge you've more than enough and I would say, they need to be treated with respect. Sir. It still brings tears to my soul. Thanks
This song was original written by vince gill to honor keith whitley. Vince had a real hard time finishing this song and put it on the shelf until the passing of his brother. He then finished it for his brother and keith whittley. When my brother passed away a few years ago, we played this at his fineral and added the line,"son you work on earth is done" to his obituary. My brother was not a veteran, but our father was. He fought and died in vietnam. Thank you for keeping all our veterans in your heart. Please listen to the original vince gill version as well.
We knew what the price could be when we signed up. I won't speak for anyone but myself but I did it because I love this country and I love its people. I loved being a soldier.

It’s beautiful but hard to watch video. I loved Tim singing Amazing Grace in the middle. It’s a tough one. Good reaction! 😍
Lets all plan to go outside at High Noon Eastern Time on Oct 1st, 2024 and all since this song across America.
As a designated Flag boy, HOMERED TO RAISE, AND LOWER THE FLAG, ever since my elementary days in starting our school Day!!!!! A PROUD SON!❤ of a WWII VETERAN!!!!! 1 OF 8 CHILDREN... I still miss and send my BLESSINGS, every time I get the chance, to visit his resting place ❤
We All Cry to this tune, every time. It makes US Human..💞
Thanks
Wow thanks for your service
Your precious. I’m glad I found you.
🤍
Crying is fine, your not alone, I've heard this song several times and I still cannot help but tear up.
If a person DOESN'T cry during this video.... Well, Id feel sorry for that person.
True
I cry every time I hear this song. I have two nephews who served in Iraq. It changed them both. Thank God they came home alive. Thanks to all the men and women who have fought for our beloved country.🥰🇺🇸
