He grew up in going to a southern Baptist church in memphis that was almost entirely black and that's where he got his love for the music. He absolutely loved black people.
@@MaddyReactions You're not black. You're mixed. Race is a spectrum. Unlike gender which is binary. Race is actually a multi-dimensional space. You cannot be 35% female and 65% male. Thank you for this. As long as people can be real and find humor in our diverse human experiences, in a way where we can laugh with each other in a way that is more unifying as humans than divisive, that’s a beautiful thing. Bill Burr is great, as are so many comedians. The best comedians of all races find an artistic way of not only teaching us a bit about each other, but simultaneously show us how we’re all fundamentally the same. Humans going through life and trying our best to make sense of it. Laughter is still the best medicine.
I'm a tall, beardy, British goth. My ex was an exchange student, black, French British but American citizen because her Dad moved to NYC in the 90s and dragged her with. She's going home to Harlem, we're texting the waters about who may move where or if a long distanc3 relationship is going to work... Any how. She is back in her Dad's place. He doesn't want me in the house, so I'm staying with her brother and sister in law next door. I feel out of place everywhere because Im a brit. Harlem is no different to me than anywhere else except it takes longer to get a beard trim in a barber's shop. First night I'm heading back from meeting some friends who live on the other side of the river. The Taxi Driver won't drive me all the way, so Im walking the last ten blocks. It's still only 11pm or so, so there's still plenty of people. I get all the way to my gf's street until some guys hanging out call me over. I talk for maybe 10 minutes. They hear the accent, they geek out a bit, we chat we tell jokes and we part. Lovely guys. The next day and I meet my gf outside (her Dad still won't let me in their house) and we go to diner. Two guys call me out by name and I say hi. We order food and the waitress calls me by name. I figure she just overheard. Just as we are getting ready to go, one of the guys I'd spoken to the night before comes in, greets me by name and introduces me to a couble of teens he has with him, his cousins. My gf now freaks out. As we are walking back to the car she starts asking how come everyone knows me. I figured it aas just a tight community and I was a novelty. Turns out 5he guys I stopped and chatted with were notorious. People had seen us and assumed I was the worst undercover cop in history and that these guys were now sus. So they had been telling everyone ghey knew who I was and to spread the word. Word even got back to my gf's dad and he let me in the house. Admittedly it was to call me a 'white devil' and chase me around a table with a cleaver, but it was progress. I was in the states a smidge less than six months, and Harlem was the friendliest, most accepting place I stayed, despite being an alabaster white guy. Almost convinced me to move there.
He's definitely NOT a racist. He pokes fun at racial issues, has a black wife and a half black daughter, and one of his best friends in adulthood was the great Patrice O'Neil.

No, Bill is not racist - he talks about race honestly and is more critical about himself than anyone else. Also, this gal is one of the most attractive people I've ever seen. Keep smiling!
Yeah, racism is negatively generalizing - he doesn't do that. But he makes real points. I recall in the 80's I had visited a friend in Detroit and got lost heading home at night (I lived in Lansing) and was very low on gas. I started to get out of the car to pump my gas and I saw this elderly black man coming out telling me to get back in the car. I was confused, but did, and he started pumping the gas. I said, "I didn't think there were any full service stations anymore." He replied, "There ain't. But I don't need no skinny white boy running around here late at night - that's trouble waiting to happen. You stay in the car and you'll be safe." I grew up in a small town and I knew "bad" neighborhoods existed, but the idea that I might be in danger just for pumping gas and going in to pay would never have occurred to me. Then again, I had lived in some small southern towns as a boy where a black man would be in at least as much danger.
@pdoylemi I grew up in some sketchy neighborhoods. But the friends I made changed my life. I miss them hard. I once had a couple of bros help push my car to the gas station then walk away like it was any other Thursday. I will give back any way I can. Those 2 dudes saved my ass.
@pdoylemi I've also never been to a greater experience than being the only white dude at an all black family BBQ. I was nervous at first, but the respect and love just shined like crazy. And the food was amazing. I'm an all over Michigan guy. Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Lansing, all the way to the UP. In the most sketchy places is where I thrive as a generic white dude. But my experience being in that awkward situation watching other cultures... It's heaven. I want that effin corn bread and greens.
@@K1bogam1 Agreed. We can acknowledge problems without making generalizations. I have lived in the Muskegon area for the past 16 years, mostly on Lakeshore Drive. I just want more cash in my retirement accounts and the property on Lakeshore had skyrocketed in value, so I sold it and took a little of the money and paid cash for a little place in the Heights. It has worked out fine. BTW, I'll agree on the cornbread, but I grew up eating greens in the south, and I never want to see them again.

Bill Burr understands black people on a doctorate level. I just saw him in San Jose. He killed. I love this guy.
😂😂😂😂"on a doctorate level"!
False
Just to be fair Elvis Presley stood up for black people his entire career. You should watch a documentary or two. He insisted that not only would he have his black back of singers perform when he was told by concert promoters they couldn't but he insisted they show up in the limousine with him and enter with him. He grew up in going to a southern Baptist church in memphis that was almost entirely black and that's where he got his love for the music. He absolutely loved black people.
I've always loved Bill Burr, and I love that you understand and appreciate his comedy!!! You are amazing!

@@MaddyReactions You're not black. You're mixed. Race is a spectrum. Unlike gender which is binary. Race is actually a multi-dimensional space. You cannot be 35% female and 65% male. But you CAN be 40% German, 30% Nigerian, 20% Tamil, and 10% Spanish. Somone with that mix is occupying some point in a 4 dimensional race space.
So I don't know what you are. And it really doesn't matter. But I do know that you are not black. When your mom and dad had sex to create you, you ended up looking the way you do BECAUSE one of your parents is white and one of your parents is black. Maybe both your parents are black? Then one or more of your grandparents is white.
But you are not black. And I suspect you KNOW you're not black. So there are two possibilities here. Choosing a title that mentions you are black gets you more views. You are insecure about the other part of your genes that are not black.
I'm not saying people one race or mixed race is good or bad. I'm saying DENYING the FACT that it is clearly impossible for you to have less than 1 person in your family that is not black just makes you look fucking stupid.

Bill's wife Nia is a pretty dark skinned black woman who is beautiful and eloquent. He is not racist... He points out cultural differences between races but also the sub genres within each race... And quite frankly, he is hilarious.
Good morning, Maddy! Bill is definitely one of the GOAT. And my statement is from someone who grew up listening to Richard Pryor, George Carlin, and Sam Kinison. All of whom are also in the GOAT community. Thank you for injecting more comedy into the rotation, it is called comic relief for good reason, and is much needed.

Don’t think anyone is watching Bill Burr. When she laughs it’s the best show.
This story is so funny and weird it has to be true

Stunning, I agree! And I am not typically even *attracted* to black women at all (relax, I'm ALSO not attracted to blonde, western European types either - my wife is another race - Chinese - and I happen to prefer Eastern European with dark hair and high cheekbones and brown eyes / Eurasian/ East Asian features - basically anywhere between eastern europe and Japan that has black hair, brown eyes, high cheekbones, and doesn't look like...how to say....the typical woman hanging out at a bus stop in chicago....., we all have a type - but in this case, yeah, beautiful girl! So, there's always exceptions!) Actually, funny thing, she reminds me a TINY bit when she smiles of the woman in Ace Venture: When Nature Calls (she was darker skinned, but something similar there faciallly - Sophie Okonedo is her name).
I was just thinking that. Halle Berry's looking at her with envy.
You stay in the car and you'll be safe."
I grew up in a small town and I knew "bad" neighborhoods existed, but the idea that I might be in danger just for pumping gas and going in to pay would never have occurred to me.

Agreed. We can acknowledge problems without making generalizations. I have lived in the Muskegon area for the past 16 years, mostly on Lakeshore Drive. Now I live in Muskegon Heights - considered a very bad area. I have had no problems and my neighbors are nice.

Ricky Gervais commented on the “cultural appropriation” dispute in one of his stand-up routines. He said that there was a word that black people use all the time that white people aren’t allowed to use. Well, WE came up with that word!
