On the 3rd Asian Karate Championship in 1966, Sikaran was accepted as a distinct Filipino style of fighting, by the Asian Karate Association headed by Korea’s Dr. Kwai Byeung Yun, with Master Koichi Kondo of All Japan Karate Federation, Master Hwang Kee of Korean Tang Soo Doo and China’s Master Chua Tiong Ki. This once in a lifetime event witnessed by Antonio delas Alas, president of the Phil. Amateur Athletic Federation, Col. Jose Lukban, president of the Phil. Amateur Judo Assoc.
Sikaran was the farmer's past time centuries ago so it didn't copy tkd. We just don't have documents to prove because back then there's a high rate of illiteracy among people.
When sikaran join the world union karate-do organization ( WUKO-do) it adopted the standard karate kata as a requirement for membership in the organization. That is the reason why sikaran have katas. But before that sikaran have no simililarities with karate or tkd except of course the fact that proper kicking techniques are incidentally similar.

When sikaran was first used in an Asian martial arts tournament in the 1960s (I think) the Koreans were so impressed that they copied some moves to incorporate into taekwondo
@@vonjuez654 sikaran is part of FMA that the spaniards banned to use . Sikaran is an old form and proven that tkd use most of the sirakaran kicks all the time . :) 1523 vs 1920 form ? You must me out of your mind bro
Sikaran is an ANCIENT martial art of the Filipinos in the North Luzon... it focuses on kicking but it was also forbidden by the Spanish so it became a sports game called "Sipa" in order to conceal the martial art..Sipa is a game where people will kick the ball to the other side of the net..It is like volley ball but you don't use your hand because you are allowed to use only your feet.... . those who say Sikaran was from taekwondo are idiots who don't know history.....

@@jonasrodriguez444 look bro there needs to be ancient records. You cannot just trust history through oral inheritance only. There needs to be evidence that it was ancient or else it's all a bunch of bullcrap.
@Rhyeszenken101 Not to say what you are saying is incorrect but since I have taken the tkd since 2007 and train in kickboxing and in lil bbj I can say most fighting arts have the same techique. So don't matter if you say tkd, or sikaran, savate, or karate the kicks and punches are the same but the philiosphy is different. All the history stuff about these arts seems like good info but I'm sure some of the styles have crossed train before.
Something like that. I know tkd phiosophy is to use the largest weapon on the body which is the legs. 70% legs 30% hands. But when you talking about olympic stlye then its like 98% kicks. TKD has close range techinques but are not taught because its taught to sell the sport side of it.
How are the philosophies different? Not trying to be disrespectful or contradict what you're saying, just trying to learn a bit more about martial arts philosophy.
Well, I looked it up and it looked to me that as far as sport goes, sikaran and tkd have the same philosohies. 90% of the fight will be foot and 10% of the hands will be just blocking with few punching. Looking at the history on wiki (Not that trust worthy), sikaran became a accepted martial art for the filopenes around 1966 but who knows. Although tkd was named in 1952 and became a martial art for korea in 1955 and was spreaded long before this art. Who knows.
Alot of mma fighters have tkd backgrounds or karate back grounds and I am sure it help them transition to muay thai. I am sorry but bjj don't have kicking or punching in it. So also to tell me that Full contact karate (kickboxing) isn't a representation of a real fight is wrong as well. Not all fights go to the ground and I won't be on the ground in a real fight if I am fighting two opponents which most sports mma don't teach. Traditional mma do teach that multiple opponents.
These kicks look alot like Tae kwon do kicks. No offense, but it seems these guys modernize Sikkarab from the old style and modernize with TKD kaarte kicks
Those kicks happen so rarely, and some of them didn't even land well. They're all very low percentage, innefective kicks (ith the exception of spinning back kick). There's a reason the main style in K-1 is kickboxing. As for MMA, which much more closley represents a real fight, TKD would work even less of the time. There is no groundgame in TKD, and even if there were, the Muay Thai kicks would destroy TKD fighters. That's why there's no primaryly TKD fighters in the UFC.

Because its filipino..

Besides you under estimate the art. The art is only effective with the person who knows how and when to use intermidate and advance kicks.

cool, me likes :o
pacquiao? :D
And of course muay thai train to use the eight points of the body. Fist, elbows, knees, and shin.
TKD would work against savate. Not olympic but the ITF or any other organization that acutally use hand and feet combinations like tkd was intended.
Oh my gosh, he sorta looks like Manny Pacquiao! ^_^;
sikaran = "kicking" ; comes from a visayan word (filipino dialect) sikad which means kick
f it worked it Savate, then Savate ighters would have adopted the techniques by now. Same with Muay Thai fighters, kickboxers, MMA fighters, etc.

I trained with Vick. If he hits you, you know it. World class.
Savate would destroy. TKD is pointless and only works against othe TKD fighters, and Sikaran spends to much tie playing with sticks.
