You all prolly dont care at all but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
These videos are fantastic! My 1987 Defender produces a noticeable amount of smoke when going down the highway and also a bit around town. I'm trying to figure out what it is - any ideas?
I forgot to mention it's white smoke and it seems to be only coming from one cylinder (noticed period puffs right above idle this morning). Hopefully just the injector and not piston rings or cylinder. Thank you so much for the super-quick reply!
Hello Chris, not sure if you will still be watching this post? My question is ..Is it possible to do a leak back test on this type of injector with the 'double pipe coming off the back of the injector? I have done a leak back test on Freelander TD4 but the leak back is fairly basic to test on that...Great video, just been looking for this elsewhere and must have missed this one...Cheers..
I think that is telling you you have other fuel supply issues. 300tdi is direct injection and the heater plugs are only a really cold weather starting aid.
I always come back to your channel, excellent stuff! I have the same hiss/tick sound as you mention, sounds like its from cyl 3 or 4 and I am thinking its a leak from the injector seal as you state. Could a faulty injector also make the same sound?
I was referring more to the ticking noise and potential leak from bad seal. But i was also told that same noise can also be from head gasket at back of cylinder 4. Will do the soap spray test.
help help help pppplease!!! dear sir, please can you tell me the thing that nobody else can tell me? my 200tdi glow plug relay will only provide 10 ish volts. it climbs to around 11 plus just before the relay times out at 10 seconds. is my relay shot? should they deliver close to 12 volts instead. thank you very much
Lower voltage means it is being lost somewhere. 200tdi circuit is simple. Either the feed to into / or out of the relay is lacking in power or the relay is corroded either internally or on the contacts themselves are corroded. You need to test all these points and carry on from there. If the power to the relay is lacking you need to trace the wiring back or test it using the voltage drop method to see if it is in good condition or contacts are in not corroded. The relay only has an earth on the switching side. You haven't said which vehicle the 200tdi is so one cannot say if it is a common problem or not. I presume the vehicle starts well and the earth connection from engine to the battery negative hasn't got corrosion on the terminals?
Land Rover Toolbox Videos yes it is a 200, in a series 2a /3 hybrid. both the relays I have do exactly the same thing. it's either they are both no good. I unplug the relay and it's 12 v. I plug in the relay and I am only getting 10 v to the glow plugs. this does creep up to 11 plus before the relay times out.. £ 47 from the dealer for the relay. Apparently the same relay as the 300. thanks very much for your help
Top notch video and narration!
i just realized that i tried to fix leaking injector by adjusting wrong screw, thanks! :)
another great video Chris
useful information nice 1
+Nell Brown thank you. Feedback is always appreciated.
Some great ideas and it's always good to see torque figures explained for those of us without miniscule calibrated 2Nm torque wrenches... lol
+Matt Allen We are going to have to find out exactly what finger tight torque is.

@Mordechai Francis instablaster :)
nice 1, very informative as always!
+Chris Woodhouse Cheers.
great, thanks for replying any idea where to start
In a pinch, can you heat up an anneal the copper washers to reuse them?
Thanks for your demo of 300Tdi engine
If my 200tdi smokes and when it idles it sounds fine and when it held almost flat out it misfires pops and crackles is that injectors

Either worn fuel system components injector/ fuel pump or worn engine piston rings / cylinder bores.

Thank you so much for the super-quick reply!
sorry I am not good at distance diagnostics. If it sounds like its popping it could be a leaky valve or a misfire on that cylinder due to an injector.
Where did you get the side hammer
Another great clip! What is the part code for the other copper washers on the piping leak back?
+Paul Norris ERR1304
Thanks, managed to find it. Do you have a selection of clips on DVD for sale?
Can you do a video on pop testing a 300TDI injector and setting the pressure?
Nope sorry.
I've not got the 300tdi engine or kit anymore.

what is the best way to get a snapped glow plug out
Drill the centre and use an easy out to pull it.
video here will help you somewhat i hope... th-cam.com/video/zf_B8u7mdes/w-d-xo.html
many thanks ,a few have said it will pop out with the engine running .
not a good idea. It will shoot out at force and could badly hurt someone
Land Rover Toolbox Video's
What is the electric part fitted to the top of the injection pump(held with 2 bolts through the boost diaphragm)?
GREAT VID AGAIN , IF I HEAT THE PLUGS TWICE THE 300TDI STARTS FIRST TIME ,IF I DONT ,ITS HARD TO START ,WOULD YOU SAY THE PLUGS ARE U.S.

Injectors buzz. You can only check injectors by checking their spray pattern. This is done on a machine that can open out both stages of the injector.
I was referring more to the ticking noise and potential leak from bad seal. But i was also told that same noise can also be from head gasket at back of cylinder 4. Will do the soap spray test.
Yes, that is correct. Back of the head cylinder - leak. Also, ticking can come from the exhaust manifold.
Yes, but noise not on that side, def from injector side and rear...
Part 3?

Poor contacts no doubt or faulty relay?
Land Rover Toolbox Videos thanks, great videos. is this a common problem with the 200/300 glow plug relay? thanks

brand new battery and terminals
👍
Do you really talk that way
Probabally.
