Been doing this stuff for 40 years, on and off, and I've never seen that trick with the olives............. thanks Mike, I'll probably never have to do one now.......
my wife is pottering around our kitchen listening to you ,while i watch your videos and she said he's so funny to listen too ,and she even says good evening mike when i put you on. keep up the good work,Dave & lisa south wales uk
Mike, it's what I found with my old 300Tdi, lose the vacuum pump, lose the mechanical fuel pump, replace with electric pumps, 95% of your oil leaks will disappear. And Nigella Lawson, phawww, bewdifull, now your talking!!!
Mike, you are right about the cheap Chinese lift pumps. The only lift pump I’ve ever found that didn’t leak or fail prematurely, were the old AC lift pumps. However, finding a NOS AC pump is the issue. Imagine they are no longer made. Great video!
If a mechanic is careless and doesn’t cover up holes and pipes on the engine, take them up in a single prop plane with a sputtering engine. They then realise the importance of the lesson! 🤪👍🏻🙏🏽🦘
Hi Mike, must have a slip of the tongue, to anneal copper you need to heat and then drop into cold water, if you let it cool gradually (like steel) tempers it (unlike steel).
Did you ever workout at good way to get glowplugs out? (the nasty ones) ! A guy in UK who btw has a 400hp S1 , suggest to run the engine real hot and then shock them out with a tiny impact.... It sounds tempting , but on the other hand , running the engine hot , will it not squeeze the plugs even tighter?
Difficult - they tend to carbon up at the tips = this is why that are tight If you can get them to turn, maybe time and good penetrating oil will do the job - maybe 1/4 turn at a time, back and forth I have a kit for drilling them out and inserting a thread - that is hit-and-miss, so if they do snap off at the bottom, it's off with its head and punch the tips out

Mike the olive's was a good one.
That will go in my memory 👌

Wow, thanks
Shows the advantage of not power washing down the engine before dismantling.
That's looking superb, who ever ends up with that is going to have a great staring point for future maintenance.
Hope so!

Hi Mike 👋 just saying thanks again for sharing this video update and information 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🚌🚌🚌
No problem 👍
My TD5 pump sounds just like that. 🤣
Cheers King Mike 🥃

THERE IS A LANDROVER REPAIRER WHERE I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA WHO HAVE THESE CASTINGS BUILT UP AND MACHINED ACCORDINGLY AND REUSED.
David. If you press the caps lock key once, the typeface goes back to lower case and stops you from ‘shouting’. Cheers mate. 👍🏻🙏🏽🦘

Well there is someone who always writes with the caps on as he cannot read the screen - thought it was you

You can do it both ways - try it!
I reckon glow plugs should be a service item, like spark plugs...
Should be checked in a cold climate!

I think that your anti seize brush only has about five to ten years left in it.
Another thing not made to last....
lol!
Can you use the aluminium antiseize on must parts ?
Yes - for me it is an all round anti-seize - I use copper or nickle on exhausts, but I have found the copper does dry out
Bloody lift pumps strike again!
Never ending story!
On my 300tdi engine I found 2 censors on the bottom of the thermostat housing and can't find them in the part's manual it was Elwood censor's

nothing coming out NOW - wait a few hundred miles
did you buy the caps as a set or just pick them up as you go along ie the large ones as well?
also just looking on line the only pump i can see that comes with a spacer is the brit part one + its the cheapest one LOL
I bought them as a set of 10x each off EBay years ago
I have never seen a pump supplied with the spacer - listed in the parts book as 'no longer serviced' - Nor have I seen one fitted to an old engine
Is that machine really a Hookah bubbling away at your Shisha ? Lol

Do you have the part number for the nut you used to tighten the olive onto the lift pump.Ta

@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks for that👍👍
Was looking at the oil leak from my lift pump yesterday!
Do you have to take the injector pipes off to get at it?
No you don't have too
You struggle to get the pump off without removing the pipes - far simpler to take the pipes off and then get the gasket nice and square
