If you're reading this for guidance and instruction......he has forgotten to tell you......disconnect the battery before you start to remove the starter. If you do not, and short the positive to earth, you will have an electric light show, and possibly electrical system damage.
I cannot recall if I still had the terminals disconnected from the battery exchange or not, but it's always good practice to disconnect it when you're doing any electrical work on the bike. This wire is one of the 'hot' wires, even when the bikes ignition is off.
I think he means the clutch splines? In which case, no. Only one way to do that I'm afraid.....gearbox out. A bit of lube on the starter is ok, but don't bother with the flywheel, it will only get thrown off onto the clutch housing casing.
Adolfo, when you do the splines, a very small amount of something like Staburags, a small pea size. That really needs doing every 20k miles. You cannot access the splines at the clutch at all without taking that gearbox out. If you think they need doing there's plenty of instruction on here (Chris Harris) consider the alternative....worn splines, very expensive. Just done mine, fairly straightforward. You'll pay over €1000 if you go to a dealer, labour intensive.
But how did you find out it was the starter motor? Atm I am replacing my battery, but my battery instantly died in the course of a afternoon. So I wonder if my starter motor is the problem my, weakened, battery completely died
I believe there are some test mentioned in the BMW shop manual, but what I did was take of the starter motor, use a known good battery, connect the negative to the metal on the front side of the battery, connect the positive to the positive terminal of the starter and then jump (preferably with a wire) to the smaller positive terminal to activate the starter. For me one of the magnets separate from the housing, so even without any resistance from the bike this only pushed the gear of the starter out, but it didn't turn around
Ik heb 'm bij Rene Stoops van stoops motoren gehaald. Oude inleveren en dan krijg je een gereviseerde me voor iets meer als 100 euro als ik het goed heb. Alternatief is er een op de sloop halen of OEM kopen

Hello, thanks for the video. Do you think that you can lube the splines through the starter gap when removed?
What splines do you mean? The splings from the starter motor or the teath of the clutch housing?

@@adelejones3746 Yes, that is what I meant. I think is always better a little than nothing. don't you think? thank you :)

Hi how many Nm for the main bolts for starters motor please ķeep up the good work 😊
Starter motor to the engine: 20Nm
Positive wire: 10Nm
Waar heb je de nieuwe startmotor gehaald? Heb hetzelfde probleem

Great video as always. Couldn’t help thinking of your little child in the back. “What is my dad talking about in that strange language” 🤣🤣
I've been working from home with loads of video calls in English... He probably thinks I'm working😅
