Thats the thing with those stock inlets, you never know until you get in there and see for yourself. Glad the cast inlet came in handy for you! One of those parts you don't think you need, until you do.
The Boomba BPV was one of the first mods I did coupled with the Cobb SF intake and it's been a great BPV for my car. Sounds fantastic and has been very reliable.
got mine installed yesterday. alot of people were saying that it made the intake/bpv louder but i didnt notice a difference really. what i did notice is a slightly quicker spool in the low end. all in all a quality part though.
@ballenwallen so you haven't done anything to replace the charge pipe yet? That might potentially be part of the reason you don't notice a significant difference since the factory charge pipe itself is made of thick plastic. If it were a metal pipe, it would help with the amplification of the sound
@ballenwallen I have a Boomba bypass valve, a Perrin charge pipe, and Perrin turbo inlet tube(not the full turbo inlet from Perrin) on my 2018 WRX. Before I replaced the charge pipe, I could barely hear turbo or bypass valve sounds inside the car. But after I replaced the charge pipe, those sounds became slightly more noticeable but not loud enough to notice them all the time
I installed this Grimmspeed turbo inlet simultaneously with a COBB tmic charge pipe and the electrical connection of the factory boost controller makes contact with said charge pipe coupler therefore preventing inlet from being secured to the turbo AND ... if you secure the inlet to the turbo FIRST you now have to swivel said electrical connection out of place away from where the 2 screws secure it down ... you can plug the hose line of the boost controller in no problem but if the inlet is secured to the turbo FIRST you will NOT be able to align and secure the boost controller with the screws ... I managed to use a little bungie cord and hooked one screw hole of the boost controller ... wrapped it around the inlet itself ... hooked it to the other screw hole and it surprisingly secures it in place and have no check engine light whatsoever I GENUINELY believe the COBB charge pipe is the issue due to the entirely new set up with the coupler where it too connects to the turbo I think it is wider than the factory charge pipe and gives less clearance ... anybody else run into this issue ??? ... maybe upgrading boost controller is the answer ??? ... I mean it literally took me by surprise as well as pissed me off but I have no intention on removing the COBB charge pipe for I feel it is the best TMIC charge pipe for 15 - 21 wrx ... if anything I will seek alternative inlets ...
Be aware if you live in Canada and have a Canadian build Subaru wrx, the inlet and solenoid won’t fit only by ass valve ;( as they have coolant lines going through the inlet 😢
just inspected my turbo inlet and found the same problem you had but way bigger slit. My DAM kept going down because of the leak but I am getting my grimmspeed turbo inlet soon!
Boomba has been great for me... haven't heard of any issues with them 🤷🏽♂️ and highly considering switching to grimmspeed inlet. I have a perrin inlet, and MUCH more intake noise haha
Perin inlet with cold air intake is super sketched out, have to trim tubing. I have yet to trim it better fit, I straight squeezed it in as much as I can, and it is not an exact fit
@james sanderson what year is your car? Certain years of the FA20 WRX have an intake silencer, more specifically the 2015-2017 model years. I have a 2018 WRX and only changed out the charge pipe, bypass valve, and the section of tubing that connects directly to the turbo inlet. With those few changes, I am able to hear the turbo spooling and the bypass valve activating enough to know that they are there
I had a p1071 code come up on my 2020 WRX similar set up to yours and the vacuum leak was exactly that, that shit broke off, ordered that grimmspeed inlet, got to wait 4 weeks now ! Back ordered… fyy!
Nice! I’m definitely gonna get one once they restock! Highly recommend a Cobb bpv. It really helps make your shifts smoother. Plus it sounds cool 😅 Also look out for the new intake manifold process west is making! It’s gonna be the first manifold to retain the stock throttle body location.
@@WRXGarage wasn't aware there was an O ring. I only took the bagged hardware out and dropped it off at the shop pre taped for reference but I guess they just said f it and coated the entire thing minus the interior.
Outstanding video man. Very thorough. Best I've seen. Just purchased it. Was thinking about COBB BPV, but after your tuners thoughts maybe not. Especially if it's not relevant enough for the cost.
Like you, I was quick to place an order for the new GS inlet right when it went to market. Sadly, it was stolen from my front door the same day it was delivered. First time I’ve ever had mail stolen. I’ve placed a second order, but it’s going to take weeks/months until it ships. :(

I personally don’t want all the extra noise in the cabin and I’m at 90k on my ‘15 wrx. Would it be better to just buy an OEM plastic replacement turbo inlet to keep sound the same while making sure the current one doesn’t fail (since they get brittle over time and use) ?
If you still have an oem intake, I don't think this part would add too much noise. That being said, yeah you could get an oem replacement from Subaru. You might end up running into the same issue later down the line though
