  • Have you heard of Hydrosols before? What about Floral Waters? Did you know that there can be a HUGE difference in quality (and safety) between the two?
    Surely you have heard about Essential Oils. Did you know that Hydrosols and Essential Oils are produced in the same way?
    If you feel confused about any of that, today’s video is for you! In Hydrosols 101, we will learn:
    - what Hydrosols are (and aren’t!) so you don’t buy one that is adulterated, toxic, or poor quality
    -the similarities and differences between Hydrosols and Essential Oils
    - how you can use them to amplify your skincare routine, no matter your skin type!
    - other bonus uses for them around the house
    - why they make the better (and safer!) choice over essential oils
    As always, I would love to hear from you! Comment below if you have any questions. Share if you found it interesting! 💚

      @@lisagardner4814 yes they could potentially assist those conditions, depending on the plant you choose for each condition. For example, my supplier at Morning Myst Botanics recommended Lemon Thyme Hydrosol for oily and acne prone skin. It’s in the oregano family so it has antibacterial properties and is lovely for skin woes while still being gentle. And one of my favourite hydrosols for skin right across the board no matter what the skin concern is Rose Geranium. It’s one of my favourites and a best seller in my product line for all skin types from dry, mature, or sensitive red skin types to oily or acne prone skin.

      @@lisagardner4814 I’m not familiar with green Myrtle hydrosol although I consulted my book by Suzanne Catty and Myrtle sounds incredible for chest coughs, congestion, asthma, allergies, etc as a general health tonic. The book makes no mention of using it topically.
      The book notes that the best general tonics for the skin are rose, geranium, Neroli, yarrow, and the chamomiles.
      In my experience, rose geranium, Neroli, and chamomile have been fantastic.

      If your hydrosol is super high quality and produced in a safe manner for consumption, then there are plenty of recipes/baking/cocktails/mocktails that could benefit from a splash of hydrosol! I can’t wait to receive my copper still in the New Year for this upcoming growing season so I’ll be sure to share more as I gain personal experience with it 💚 Let me know if you find a good book in the meantime for using hydrosols in unique ways and I’ll keep me eyes open, too.

      Replace the distilled water in soap or lotion recipes with a hydrosol and I think it could come out pretty magical.
      Oh! And you can use the hydrosols in room diffusers. With or without adding EOs

    Anybody have any idea where we can buy a quality EO or hydrosol? I never really found I could find any noticeable benefit. However with the hydrosol I have felt and seen a difference. Any recommendations? I think I found one store on Etsy but would definitely like any help finding something I can trust ! Thanks !

    • @thegreengoddess4147

      Until I’m at the stage that I make my own, I have been purchasing hydrosols from Morning Myst Botanics out of the USA. They are a family operated organic farm that tends their plants from seed to still with exceptional quality. They are certified organic and ingestible due to their strict cleanliness standards when distilling which require no need for preservatives.
      You can also buy quality organic hydrosols from mountain rose herbs!!
      As for essential oils that can be trusted; I would recommend purchasing from a company that can somewhat “prove” the quality of their oils by providing documentation like a GCMS report. The company I purchase my oils from is new directions aromatics and I have always been very happy with the quality, affordability, and transparency this company provides!
      Hope that helps xo

    May i know about extract vs hydrosol .
    which one has more benefit for skin?
    Thank you so much for your information Ms.

    • @thegreengoddess4147
      @thegreengoddess4147  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Greetings Aye! I find that hydrosols are simpler to work with because there is no messing or fussing with precise measuring of extracts, wondering if you have used too much or too little in your formula. Also, some extracts aren’t easily soluble and won’t dissolve in your product without clumping - it just depends on the extract and also what you’re trying to incorporate it into. That said, I do have powdered extracts and have used them in the past in my face toners and face masks with good results. They are a lovely addition to some skincare products because, like all plants, each extract has its own unique benefits for various skin concerns. I hear that there are liquid extracts on the market now and I imagine those might be easier to use (and dissolve) than the powders.
      All of that said, I think a hydrosol with the addition of an extract or two could really amplify the skincare benefits you seek and would be worth a try!
      I’d love to hear if you try anything, and how you liked it!

    Pure distillations without alcohol or witch hazel tend to go bad without refrigeration. What would you suggest to keep the distillation pure from containments?

    • @thegreengoddess4147
      @thegreengoddess4147  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Asha! Thank you for the comment. Yes, you are right: hydrosols are usually preserved with alcohol or other chemicals to prolong the shelf life and prevent unwanted microorganisms from taking over and spoiling the hydrosol.
      In my opinion, it is important to ask the seller if they preserve their hydrosols and what method they choose to do so. Be sure to dig a little until you know with certainty if there have been additives into the hydrosol as you might not agree with said additives. I choose to avoid chemical preservatives whenever I can (but they are absolutely necessary when hydrosols are not created in a sanitary way!).
      That leads me to my next point which is that for a few years now I have purchased 100% pure organic hydrosols from a family farm in Washington. Hydrosols are their sole business and they take great care to produce an exceptionally high quality product in a sanitary fashion. They do not add alcohol or preservatives of any kind - nor do they need to when following strict distillation protocols with sanitation at the forefront of their process. When hydrosols are produced and packaged in a clean environment, the need for chemical preservatives or alcohol is greatly diminished.
      Their hydrosols always last me a minimum of 1 year (sometimes 2 years!) when stored in a cool and dark environment.
      This company, by the way, is called Morning Myst Botanics and you can find them at www.morningmystbotanics.com. I am not affiliated with them in any way - I just love their product!
      PS - I still watch for signs of spoilage and if I notice any changes in colour, aroma, taste, or appearance (sometimes “floaties” will appear which can be a sign of spoilage) then I discard.
      Does that help? 💚💚💚

    • @thegreengoddess4147
      @thegreengoddess4147  ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings! Similarly to making lively face sprays, you can also make refreshing linen and room sprays. I love spraying my sheets/pillows/clothes with hydrosol (with some added essential oils for extra oomph!).
      You can also add hydrosols to homemade lotions and creams (like body butters or face creams, etc) in replacement of the water in these recipes. For example, you could make a lovely night time face cream with lavender hydrosol to help lull you to sleep. You just would need to make sure you have a preservative in the formula because anytime you add water or liquids (like hydrosols) to cosmetics they will spoil rapidly (within a week) if they are not preserved properly.
      Hope those ideas help? Let me know 💚

      Awhh, thank you for the kind compliment. Although I definitely enjoy spritzing Hydrosols on face, body and hair, I would say that my biggest hair care secret is minimalism - as in - I rarely blow dry, curl, or straighten my hair. I feel like the less I mess with my hair, the happier and healthier it is!

      I’m sorry to hear that you are sensitive to fragrance AND essential oils, too! I’m finding it quite common to hear in conversations with my customers that more and more are becoming sensitive to synthetic aromas…definitely not as many suffer from essential oils but it’s still common enough (especially with floral EO’s like rose, etc). You have it twice as bad, so yes, I think hydrosols would be a great alternative for you!! Good luck 💚
