    I hope my comment will help anyone that has a breakout of shingles or fever blisters, As soon as you see a red rash, blister, or eye drainage, apply the propolis. Take l lysine immediately to stop a shingles breakout. You can put propolis in the eyes to stop eye damage from shingles.

      So sorry I didn’t notice your comment. This recipe is meant for raw propolis and extracting its healing properties into the oil,. The propolis tincture is already in its final prepared form. It has been extracted into an alcohol. It is taken orally as this recipe is meant for topical use. If you’re able to find the raw propolis this is definitely worth making. Hope this helps , sorry for the tardy response. Thanks for watching and sharing.

    The amount of propolis a hive produces will also depend on the breed of bee the beekeeper uses in their operations.
    The most used breed in the US are Italians. They produce very little propolis while the second most kept breed , Carniolans produce a lot more propolis

    But you say the temperature should not exceed 133 degrees.

      I use many sources like the beekeepers who supply my raw propolis. My beeswax’s alchemy recipe book. Mountain rose herbs website where I buy ingredients, their TH-cam tutorials. Herbal academy is also great source of information and many others. The general rule is to gently warm the herbs without destroying their properties. I believe no more that 140 degrees Fahrenheit which is about 60 degrees Celsius for about 3 hours. I used 122 degrees for 4 hours. It worked great and I could see the change in colour and consistency. I did try a second batch and reused the propolis with new oil. I only managed to extract a bit more , judging by the colour and fluidity of the second batch. The real test was applying it to a small wound and it healed beautifully. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there. The ratio is 1 oz propolis to 8 oz oil. 1/2 oz vodka The salve is very soft . Its firmness depends on how much wax is in your raw propolis. My propolis was soft enough to use in a pump that is appropriate for lotions. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

      @ did you get any condensation on the inside lid of the jar? If I use cheese cloth instead is it fine to let it infuse longer?

    • @suzyrebelo
      @suzyrebelo  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ValencerShand hi there. No I didn’t get condensation. Make sure the temperature isn’t too high. I used the lid to prevent any water getting into the propolis. You can infuse it longer if you think it needs to release more of the propolis. You can tell if the colour has deepened. I would recommend you remove it from the heat and let the jar cool. It should be creamy when set. Then , if it’s not infused enough , warm it up again for another hour or so. Remove cool and it should be ready to use. Hope this helps.

      Hi there. If you have liquid propolis it’s probably a tincture. It will have its own specific use and application method. You would need the raw propolis to infuse it into your carrier oil and then it turns into a thick cream which I’m calling a salve. You can make it thicker and firmer by adding a bit of beeswax. You can use coconut oil as your carrier oil. It may even give your propolis salve more body and it has a long shelf life too. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

The salve is a thick emulsified oil that goes on smooth and absorbed into the skin. Red propolis is not specific to a particular country. If bees has access to the right type of resin from trees (cherry and almond trees has resin that is easier to harvest during July and August when the resin is nice and soft) then they can make no matter what country. Here in the U.K I harvest lot of red propolis just from scraping frames, crown boards and brood boxes without using any propolis trap.
