- In this video I will show you how we make our propolis tincture. It is a fairly simple procedure and takes about a week to complete.

264 gr propolis to 500 ml of water!
That's a lot different than a 37% propolis - 73% solvent stated in the video.
It's about a 50% - 50% ratio.

I add extra propolis to ensure that the tincture disolves and susoends at least 37% propolis. Better to use a little extra propolis than to provide an inferior product.

I discard it. As in my mind I have extracted most of the propolis. Some people add the sediment left over to creams.

I have two questions. Do we know that the solids removed don’t contribute to healing properties? Do we know that eating propolis straight is not as effective for absorption as taking a tincture?
I guess one could do a water extraction on the residue.
Propolis is a waxy , resinous mixture of plant resins, sap and oils. It resists dissolving into plain water, I know I've tried!
Hi what you have done for rest of the propolis after ticture? is it useable ? Is it Bee Wax? What we could do after extract the Ticture?
after I filter the tincture there is a little debris. Most of that will be beeswax and other hive debris. There may be a little propolis in there, but I discard it as the concentration is unknown.

We have a beehive and hubby harvests honey every year. I've played around with propolis and have discovered that it resists melting like wax does, is very hard and becomes crumbly as it dries out. Unlike wax and other oils it can't be melted to add to creams, lotions, candles and lip balm. It think you might try to heat it on low heat in a carrier oil of your choice. Otherwise, a concentrated tincture made by his method using a generous amount of propolis to alcohol ratio would be your best bet to make lotion, using the result as the liquid part.

I do not make propolis and oregano.
i use the 40 proof for most people due to they can not handle the 180 proof burn that i make for my family
You can use what you have it just won't extract as much propolis and hold as much in suspension.

The alcohol with dissolve it. It may take a few days longer but it will work fine,

you collect propolis from the hive and then follow the instructions in the video
How many drops do you take yourself and how often?
I take 8 -10 drops every morning. There are websites that have detailed dosing for what you’re trying to treat.
I take a sip, 2-3 spoons a day.
How do you reduce the strong alcohol smell in the tincture
If you're using alcohol, there's really no way to get rid of the alcohol smell. You could try doing a water tincture but that's a little more involved

you could, but at that point you might not get a very concentrated tincture. It would be diluted more and not as potent.

Bee Happy propolis has been used to cure a multitude of illnesses. There are many resources on the Internet but explain what it cures and how to use it

Author's numbers are wrong: if you start with ca. 37% of solids, the dissolved portion will be significanly less, because all the wax and other debris are left as undissolved solids behind. Perhaps you end up with around 10% of dissolved propolis. That number is easy to quantify by evaporating a small, preweighted sample of tincture and weighing the solids left behind.
37%+73% =110%.......
What do we do with the propolis after straining
Any residual propolis, I toss into the compost bin.
The alcohol should be in range 70-74 %.

Hiya, firstly thank you for making this video segment on the Properlis tincher. Much appreciated. I'm based in London, UK. Have difficulty finding high strength Vodka. Could I possibly use J Wray and Nephew White Overproof rum 63% ?
I did visit my local polish supermarket but they sell a spirit which is 95% and that's called polmos spirytus rectified spirit...Spirit is highly concentrated ethanol. Please help thanks I advance #🐝
63% will work, just not as good and will not extract or hold insuspension as much propolis. polmos spirytus sounds a lot like the 95% Global Alcool that we use.

You can use steam distalation to make tictures, but I do not do that or know exactly how that is done,
yes you can use water or vinegar but the process of dissolving that resin will take longer
This is the first time I have heard of a form to obtain the 94% alcohol for a business. Due to covid I CN not call, but have written an email to them inquiring. Do you need any special licenses or credentials other than a company business number to obtain this?

lower alcohol content will not disolve the propolis very well. You need to use over 76% alcohol to make a good tinture,

I have a propolis from bees that live in a land with vampirecus. I will try this method. I may use it as a pesticide against cochinella. I hope it works.

I add water to my other tinctures so they aren't horrible to take. My only question with propolis tincture was if that's even necessary. It's sweet and not very hard to take without water. I imagine it's fine.
In my experience as soon as you at water the propolis reacts with it and comes out of suspension. Propolis is not sweet. It is kind of bitter. It would only be sweet is you added honey to it.

Hi, I was wondering what about that small pieces of white pain inside of propolis? I'm making my own and I was always wondering what is happening to it?
white pain?, you might mean paint from your hive?... I would try not to scrape off your paint, and no you would not want to desolve paint into your tinture and ingest it or sell it, as I am sure it would make it more toxic
can I use 190 proof everclear to make this tincture ?
That's basically what I'm using but just a Canadian version of it

Hogh proof alcohol will disolve the propolis even if it is in a ball

Great video. Will the tincture stain my skin? Teeth?
It will stain clothing. Could temporarily stain skin or teeth. When taking it I put it in the back of my throat to avoid this,
can you use apple cider vinegar for people allergic to alcohol, or children?
I don't know enough about apple cider vinegar or whether it would actually dissolve any of the problems or not. Sorry!

We harvest from the Honey Supers. The Honey bees do not overwinter there.

I would say yes but will take a bit longer to dissolve

What I like to use is the propolis paste that is left over after the tincture is filtered. The paste left over has a very fine texture and is easy to incorporate into a cream or salve.

Why can't u just eat the propolis raw ? Is there any disadvantages?
A tincture is made to concentrate the levels of propolis per volume. It is easier to take a concentrated tincture then eat a ball of propolis. Also propolis contains a lot of beeswax and wood really clog up your teeth
I chew the propolis like gum. Lasts alll day.
The chewing and saliva incorporates the goodnesses of the propolis into my body.

how would one make a very THICK tincture?
Alcohol will one hold so much in suspension. Also you only need a little every day. Not sure you would need a thicker tincture
let a lot of the alcohol evaporate. I assume this is for topical use, not internal.

Thank you for your video, I made a batch a little over two weeks ago. It’s about 40% propolis and 60% grain alcohol. I filtered it out tonight and thought I’d give it a try. When I put the drops in the hot tea they sink right to the bottom and make a little brown like skin on the bottom of the cup, is this how it’s supposed to look like? Thanks
Propolis is very sticky. Best to take it straight. A few drops under the tongue or in the back of your throat.
