I have the original Turtles. They were some of my first toys after losing all my other toys in a horrible flood. I lived in a motel for awhile, and these were what kept me occupied.
I'm extremely glad you survived the flood, and I truly hope others did as well. But I am deeply sorry for the toys you lost, forever enjoy those turtles. 💙

Just ordered these as I am meeting the voice actors in Columbus in a few weeks to sign. Wish I had my original ones. Great memories.
The color change is not a bad thing, because those colors were the ones they always meant the turtles to be.
Raphael's skin color is the exact same he has in Turtles in Time, and every version where each turtle features a different green in the 80's-90's versions.
Raph almost looks sun faded compared to the original figure.
I was just about to say that about all the figures...like the vintage figures had been positioned with the sun coming right in through the window of a dingy drug store.

I think the best versions of these TMNT figures are the reissues of the late 90's. Those are still good quality and feel the same to the originals and have similar colors of the original. But they don't tend to get sticky or have body parts that start turning white like the original releases.
So that’s why my original Donatello is sticky? I thought the slime from the Flush-O-Matic torture machine I have messed him up.
i have the original donatello from 1988. my mom bought it on 1989 and gave it to me when i was born. but sadly, i lost the bo-staff and the belt too

The matte color of the shells makes it easy to see the details.
I'd really love for one of them to make a vintage style based more on the cartoon. The cartoon series colors, the black in the eyes. But the same articulation, poses, and size as the classics. Ad maybe the same weapons but in a more "logical" color. (Brown staff, silver katanas, etc) Vintage vibes with a twist.

My wife got this for me on my birthday a few months back, I was so stoked. I lost my original ones way back as a kid. I honestly love these original looking turtles with the packaging.

I actually kind of like the matte finish and muted colors for their shells... The skin colors are a little bit of a different story, especially Raph

I must confess that I am happy that you still have your original turtles in mint condition.
I lost Micky and Leo at school when i was a little kid (somebody stole them from my backpack when we were outside at lunch time)
I miss them LOL (nowadays I acquired the new version of Micky but as I see it is not the same thing with the matte colors they gave them, and some defects in the head molds).
PS: I also lost a Toy Island Robocop action figure at school when I was 7, but this time it's different: I bought an original boxed one (it wasn't opened yet) from ebay some months ago for 25 bucks and... I am a happy 37 years old child with an boxed original, in working condition, WITH BATTERIES INCLUDED FROM 20+ years ago LOL.🤣

Very nice comparison video, Dan! It honestly just makes me want to go back and get more of the originals, but for a newbie or someone who wouldn't tell, the new ones are still pretty cool
I bought these for $30 just for the sake of having an extra set of turtles. I have no regrets. I just have the late 00s early 10s reissues along with the vintage and a soft head Donatello I had to replace the broken belt with a gimmick one.

The ones from the 80s were tanks.
I had several sets of the boys and they went to hell and back but never broke.
Unfortunately over the years i lost them but I'd bet any amount of money that they're still going strong

It seems like the last couple of Raph reissues have and that almost ghostly color scheme. I've got a sealed set of the 25th anniversary ones, and they look much better overall.

Wow, the colors being really off on these reissues are kinda off putting for me. I guess I should look for other reissues of those figures that aren’t weirdly colored.

There's another different on Leonardo where he got peg holes on both feet, I think I know why... I believe this were molded for the SDCC 2015 History of Leonardo where both his feet were screwed on his base.. So I believe they used the same molding for this 2019 exclusive....

Nice video Dan and yeah i did notice that about Raph as well. i use to have all 4 soft head Turtles when i was a kid but lost them in a move. So i am trying to rebuild my TMNT collection.
I have honestly never much cared for how bright and shiny the vintsge figures looked so I'm much happier with the matte finish and skin tone different

I wonder if changes in plastic are because they use cheaper plastic now. You said they felt lighter which makes me wonder if they're now using lower quality plastic.

I forgot about the weapon tree.... probably because I always threw that out when I bought the figures. Actually I think all my friends did too
the color and material differencesin the figures are prolly like you said for the weapons. repros and counterfeits are becoming more prevalent, which means bad actors aren't far behind.
This seems like a quick, easy, and cheaper alternative for just wanting to have Turtles again which is great. Unless you are a diehard collector and want the original line, there were about two different re-released in between the first line and this set I believe. The second release has darker glossier boxes unlike the cartoon looking one of the original and then it was Target with the 20th anniversary release that reused the old box I believe. And those are still in the price of about $20 or so oer figure on card I think so overall if you don't really care for the vintage line or you have someone new to Turtles I think this is a good alternative. Thanks for the review Dan!

The packaging is a big part of the charm for me, so I prefer the single figure reissues from several years back compared to this. Granted, the packaging from those isn't even close to the originals, but they're much closer than this box.

There were also reissues circa 2000-1. I think they were available at Big Lots and KayBee.
I feel like the best reasons to get this particular set are: 1. You have kids and want them to enjoy TMNT without having to let them bust up your vintage figures - 2.The vintage figure weapons are hard to find on places like eBay and VERY expensive. This might be a good option to re-arm and re-belt your vintage figures for display. It's certainly cheaper than trying to chase down all of the vintage weapons / belts individually.
Kids prefer figures of the current series.
My 1st turtle was soft head Mikey. I picked him because I thought he was Raphael.
Are these constructed internally the same way the vintage figures are, with the rods holding the limbs in place that can get stiff over time and break?
I know it's the original TMNT 80s figures but I've noticed that only raph and Mikey are green and Leo and Donnie are brown weird but okay
Thanks for all the details! We saw these in GameStop back in the wintertime, and Raph just looked so off... I couldn't spend the money on them. Maybe it's cause we are die-hard vintage TMNT fans, used to seeing the original toy, but they all look terrible when you put then side by side. I agree it's probably due to advances in plastic production in the last 30 years. Leo looks the best out of all of them.
I have all 4 original turtles in their packages two unpunched. I'm having a hard time getting a value on them. One person responded 200-250 but never clarified if that's individual or for all. I also have the sales receipt for them. I got them from my dad who was smart enough to buy those as extras when I was young. Thanks
Honestly when I look at that new release of donny it reminds me of a ninja turtles chocolate bar because its that shade of brown
