Spyro: Year of the Dragon is the third installment in the Spyro series and the last Spyro game to be released for the PlayStation, in addition to being the last one created by its original creators.
After many technical issues, this first ever completed TAS of Spyro: Year of the Dragon finishes the game with 100% (in-game 117%) game completion, over an hour faster than any normal speedrun. This is done through carefully planned routes, precisely executed glitches and highly optimized movement.

I like how the moments where the game forces you to play at a certain pace become random fun here.
37:34 Spyro shows off his moves in the ice skating mini-game.

57:15 Similar thing with Spyro constantly spinning, almost hitting the pandas.

1:45:52 This is the most cathartic thing about speedruns, especially tas's. its when a notoriously difficult part of the game just gets absolutely brought to its knees. It's a feeling I can only imagine akin to seeing the execution of someone guilty of murdering one of your loved ones. They say revenge is bittersweet, but the ten year old child in me sleeps easy tonight, knowing that a cause of many nights of frustration got what it deserved.
Am I the only one who didn't struggle with this? It really can be as easy as hold right and mash jab. I would purposefully restart the game just to play this mini game again.

I always come back and watch this speedrun when I feel like relaxing, the nostalgia I get from this and other old games I used to play is unreal. Also this TAS is flipping amazing.

I was 12... (Now 27)... This game brings back memories..... Never thought I'd see someone performing at such phase.

Holy hell, I laughed so hard at Spyro just nyooming past the craft, killing the Sorceress, and taking the last egg as Bianca was still telling you how to beat her hahahahahaha
This was my fave game when i was a kid i'm 26 now this is crazy. I can go fast since i know by memory where everything is cause i played it a lot as a kid but this is just beyond anything i have seen.
Literally the same applies for me.. time flies
This is incredible. Also, this game and its soundtrack are still amazing.
the hunter mission on the second speedway is amazing. its just like the DVD screensaver that never seems to hit the corner.... amazing!!!
the amount of dedication to make this speedrun is insane. imagine missing one gem because you walked that little bit too quickly past where it spawned...

@@imdrunkmk427 Since this TAS was made in PSXjin, and Nitrofski did stream his progress on how he made this.
This was done with some old school TASing where the input was created manually where only the tools of savestates, a decreased speed (sometimes normal speed as well) and the least used frame advanced was used to create this TAS.
Not only that but he manually created a spreadsheet and wrote down several routes to find which is fastest before executing some of the times.
It also does help that he was one of the top runners of the game at the time.
It’s so satisfying to see the Firefly bombing run aced; I must have spent about an hour playing that minigame over all my playthroughs and I never enjoy it.

It’s a technique called “zigzagging” very hard to control at first but fairly easy once you know what you’re doing. Just hold Up+L/R+L1 and mash R1

I loved this game in my childhood, but I don't know why, every time i was able to go to the last boss and defeat her, my game would simply go black screen and I wasn't able to do anything after that but restart my PS1 and play the game all the way to the end cuz I didnt have a memory card at the time 😢
i remember unlocking Spark´s ability to break vases and baskets. took me a long time to reach that point... aah takes me back to fond cghildhood memories.

That’s not technically correct. It’s a human playing the game but with various programs (save states, moving frame by frame, etc.) that allow them to play the game at what is theoretically the fastest time possible without accounting for human error/ability.
@@HectorGonzalez-qx9nk I'm not part of any speedrunning community, but I'd be surprised if this isn't seen as controversial. A bit like athletes taking drugs... It will improve their performance but wasn't the point to test unaltered ability?
If you’re doing a regular speedrun, sure, but this is TAS. The T and A stand for tool assisted, so everyone knows it wasn’t done by a person without any outside help.
This is easily a top 10 most impressive TAS of any game I've ever seen.
