I know it's been like 11 years since you posted this but... bro god bless you, I was freaking out because I didn't know how to scale my viewport using in/ft but then you saved me. So thank you man, love ya!
Hello Brandon, I am an Artchitectural Technology student at Humber Collage (now Humber Polytechnic), I want to thank for you tutorials on TH-cam, and today Scaling Titleblock in AutoCad has been very helpful to, it enabled me to finish my assignment properly, you teach very well, thank you, much appreciate your help !
This helps. Its been 10 years since I forgot to do my scale in view port using my shortcut commands. By just watching this I did not know using scale thru properties. Thank you.
Ok, for anyone interested, I think one should draw a rectangle, from eg. upper left corner of the paper to the lower right corner of the paper, it is doable, one can get perfect accuracy of the dimensions of the rectangle in relation to the paper dimensions (open page setup manager to check for type and dims of paper and cross check with measuregeom of the construed rectangle). I think that our friend in this channel uses the aforementioned method, and it is quite interesting and helpful a method. Thanks for the inspiration !
Thank you very much for your time explaining this, it's really helpful, however the sound is atrocious, but then I realise it's 2019 and this was done 6 years ago, so really, the audio is impeccable :D Thanks for the help and sorry for the judgement :)
Thank you Brandon for the video, its good revision - especially as I get back into gear of engineered paper model aircraft design, for plotting on A4 paper via Laser Printer at high resolution.
I have a question. I drew a cross section of a road in 1 to 1 scale. 1 unit in autocad represents 1 meter. In my layout I changed my page setup to A1 piece of paper and a drew a viewport of similar size, but when I set my scale to 1:100 my cross section is super small. What did I do wrong ? Maybe it's, because when I type units command it shows millimeters ? I changed it to meters, but it's still the same. Got any tips ?
Thanks for watching, and for commenting! I've made another video showing how to add custom scales to your drawings, like 1: 500. th-cam.com/video/pzDO_FinUuI/w-d-xo.html
Sir I do have a question. I tried to use 1:100 scale and used a 20"x30" paper size but my drawing seems to big and cannot fit to paper. What should I do?
generally you scale in paperspace viewports. This is so the drawing in model space is always drawn at 1:1 scale. In the old days of AutoCAD, before paperspace was around, CAD users would often select the lines they wanted to scale in the model space, then use the scale command to set them to the correct scale for plotting. It was terrible. If you had to make changes, you would often need to re-scale the linework you scaled back to 1:1 to make it easy to make changes, then re-scale it back for plotting again.
I need help trouble shooting someone else’s template for paper space. I set my own paper space up but what the person provided doesn’t seem to add up. I am using 3/32 scale and my model space is 1:1 but my paper space is too big. I am just trying to set my paper space scale to the right units.
the Command CHSPACE was working wonders just yesterday. Now when I try and do it it keeps giving me a prompt to "Set the TARGET viewport active and press ENTER to continue.:" What does this mean? I know your time is valuable and I thank you for any assistance you can provide.
When you get that prompt, simply click inside the viewport you'd like the object to change spaces with, typically the prompt will come up when you have more than one viewport, but you can also just hit enter and it will typically default to the correct viewport.
Excellent one! here, In previous AutoCAD Architecture Version I can draw above the viewport on paper space, now I can't do that... is there any setting or command to draw on top of that viewport? like what I am doing before, after finished with my 3d, on paper space I need to put some label, materials and other. It shows only the portion of outside viewport.
thank you so much! I have a question. How to you save a layer ones its down with is ''cartouche'' to make a printable page. My teacher wants each layer to become a pdf page. Also can I have 2 viewports in the samepage?
dear please help me out when i draw rectangular shape of any dimension for example (22,56) it show large image and i cant realize i cant zoom out so please how to fix it i need a small object rather than large and also how to fix the cm,m,inch parameter
Hi Brandan:. can you please help me make dynamic scale bar , although I have made one, but still need help. the second point is how I make it available in every drawing without inserting blocks ( I mean while in layout I can call that scale bar along the defaults which are present). thanks
Melina Brown yes, just change the viewport scale, you can find it at the bottom part, but it depends on how you plot, is it by copying the file then paste to paper , or by viewport.be sure to change your desired units in model space, -dwgunits
Hey, thanks for sharing this video. I am facing a problem while taking print in selective scale. I have drawn a rectangle of 297,210 (A4 size paper) in layout. While taking the print of this rectangle on A4 paper plot should show 1:1 but it is showing 1:1.2 plot scale. I have rechecked the units, it is in mm. Please help.
Thanks for that video on How To Scale Viewport , I am working with a civil scale 1" = 20' /40' /60' so in my model space I am in unless measure, now when I go to paper space I create my viewport an make the (scale 1" = 20') I have a roadway alignment sta. at 100" intervals now. Once the drawing has printed I lay a 20 scale on it, it measures a 100' as 2' on the 20scale eng. Please can you tell me where I am going wrong ???? any assistant would really help Thanks
Thanks for video. Followed your steps on video. We did confirm our paper is 24x36. In model space, we did scale everything 1:1. The property is approx. 300'x300'. We were able to highlight viewport. When we right clicked we opened properties . However, under Misc, we set annotations of 1"=1". Under standard scale, we had to use 1"=250' for the property to appear in the viewport and somewhat fill the space. When we print in paper space 1"=20' matches our scale. But we had to set standard scale to 1'=250'. What are we doing wrong????
thanks man, i been using draft sight and its very similar to auto cad and this video save me lot of time. by any chance is there a video out there about scaling text and font for a house plan?
Hi Brandon, thank you for helpful videos. I have a question. How can I have viewport scale for different views of the model fitting in viewport frame ? For example, I insert three different views of the model and set scale for each view, but when I do, it either magnifies in to the model, or minimizes the model. It also changes the size of viewport that I need to resize the viewport. Help..!@
if you mean lock the viewport, select the viewport, right mouse click, scroll down the menu that opens and goto 'Display Locked' on the menu then left click Yes. That will lock the viewport so that it can't be accidentally panned or scaled/zoomed if clicked inside of.
Hey, thanks for the comment and watching! Its basically the same process since the scale is just a ratio, just add the scales you need ie. 1:40, 1:100 etc..
Hi Jessica, I actually have a video just for that. Check out my video on adding and using custom scales here: th-cam.com/video/pzDO_FinUuI/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching and for the question! Cheers, Brandon

Sir what unit should be use if the scale 1:00 etc? thanks
Great tutorial! I had been taught to do that in a very confusing way using the zoom and xp commands

HI, CAN YOU POST VIDEO WITH USING CENITMETERS
I just only know the basics of autocad and..
Is it ok to scale only in layout(viewports) but not in model.
generally you scale in paperspace viewports. This is so the drawing in model space is always drawn at 1:1 scale. It was terrible. If you had to make changes, you would often need to re-scale the linework you scaled back to 1:1 to make it easy to make changes, then re-scale it back for plotting again.
May I have an answer as to how you snapped? to the edges of the paper and measured its dimensions in the layout view?. Extremely interesting!
VERY HELPFUL. ITS EXLPAINED SO SIMPLY.

Hey Antonio, Thank you for watching and the comment!! You can get the title block from my site titleblocks.com
Awesome , thanks!
Thanks sir. But you have not mentioned anything about text. I have done this, but I can't see the contours levels. Please help me out.

HOW DO I MOVE MY DESIGN IN THE VIEWPOINT IF I CAN DOUBLE CLICK ON DESIGN IN VIEWPORT WHEN I TRY TO PAN IS ONLY PANS THE PAPER NOT DESIGN
The viewport is probably locked. Right click the edge for options.
how to lock the view port scale in autocad drawings?
if you mean lock the viewport, select the viewport, right mouse click, scroll down the menu that opens and goto 'Display Locked' on the menu then left click Yes. That will lock the viewport so that it can't be accidentally panned or scaled/zoomed if clicked inside of.
Type in command line; MV (enter/space)
Can you show in Metric?
Great video. Thank you
Awesome, glad you liked it!
dude u r the man, thank u
