In this tutorial, I will show you how easy it is to scale the AutoCAD paperspace viewports to any custom scale you would like. I will show you 2 different methods to scale the viewports.
It is very easy simple maths to work out the scale you need.

Two years stopped doing cad and i forgot so much simple things, thank you
Best tutorial about viewport scale
Awesome! We need more this plain and simple. thanks!
Brief and exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks.
This is the best video ever watched. . . thank you very much...
+Irakli Begiashvili thank you for your comment, I'm glad you found it helpful
Hello Andrew. You can do without the calculator. Just type "1/80" in the place where you would type "0.0125" and press enter. Autocad can do some simple arithmetic. cheers.
I also use annotative text. Best thing Autodesk ever did. You must fully understand it to use it effectively. You will never go back to inputting heights ever again.
Absolute legend!
Thank you for the video.
Amazing video thanks
Thank you, very helpful
Thanks for this, helped me plot my work..
Very nice sir
Thank you
Dude thank you very much this has been stressing me. What happens when you have a title block do u scale including the title block or you scale the viewport only.
Thanks for the video tutorial.
Thnx dear really very helpfull
where the best place to show dimensions in Model or Layout
this is quite a personal choice depending on how you prefer to work.
For me personally i like to keep them in paperspace, same with text too and some symbols.
When i 1st started using AutoCAD paperspace didn't even exist, then when introduced you could only have 1 layout which was restricting but had ways around it. Now you can have many paperspace tabs and i like that method.
As time has gone on though Autodesk introduced annotative text and dimensions which you use in model space and they do have some advantages but i still prefer to keep my plans clean of text.
You could always have a .dwg for your floor plans, then xref the floor plans into another drawing to do your dimensions and text in model space then setup in paperspace. It really is how you prefer to work.
Thanks for the help!
+FiveStingray Glad it was helpful
Why when i digit the scale nothing changes?
Great video but it could be faster so, I released "Autocad Automatic Viewport Scales"
It helped me a lot
what to do if the linetype scale changes, different from what the model view on layout/viewport.. or in printing.
Thank you.
in your video, are you using annotations in your text & dimensions?
Hi Joel, no I don't like using annotations. I was never very impressed with them personally despite trying for some time to work with them.
can i select same scale for different size of drawings in different view ports? in one layout?
Hi Sarfaz, yes, if i understand what you are saying. You can create many different viewports on the same paper space layout and assign different scales to each of them.
I think i was unable to explain my problem,
I was asking, "Can i draw different sizes of drawings (in different view ports) having same scale?"
Can you give me an example of what you are trying to do? When you say different sizes of drawings I'm not clear what you mean. I'm not sure I understand why you would want to do that. You have 2 spaces in AutoCAD - Model Space and Paper Space. In Model Space, that is where you should draw everything at 1:1 scale, and adjust the scale for plotting in Paper Space using the Viewports.
Now I think you might mean this:
Lets say you had an actual table that you drew 1 metre x 1 metre as that is what it is in reality. But right next to that you drew the same table, but this time drew it at 2 metres x 2 metres, you could then go to Paper Space and scale a viewport for each table so they plot the same size. But each table would need its own viewport to do so as the scale would have to be set differently so they plotted the same.
I'm not sure if that answers your question as I am not sure what you are trying to do exactly. If you can elaborate with an example it may help me to understand and give you advice.
Thank you for giving me your precious time, i will contact you soon with an clear example. thanks again.
Problem:
if I draw 1m x 1m and 2m x 2m squares in models. And want to print these two squares in two different view ports with same scale. Then one square ( 1m x 1m ) shows in view port properly and 2m x 2m square goes out of the view port. I want to select the same scale for both view ports. hope you will understand this time.
hi iam working on a 2010 version.my question is if i wanna take a print on an a1 sheet how do i scale the drawing to 1:50 scale and lock/freeZe the viewport and reduce the size of the drawing without affectin the scale and sqeeze in another layout on the same paper
Yes i have same question. How to do that??
I need your help, how can I turn a pencil drawing on paper to a pdf file on my computer.
hallo Andrew.. can u please expalin.. How to Scale the Dwg In a A1 size paper?
Hi Faisal, I'm not clear on what you mean exactly. In this video it shows how to scale any viewport in any page size. If you mean how to setup an A1 page size, you can Right Click the layout tab, then Left Click 'Page Setup Manager, then select your page layout then Left Click 'Modify' button. You can then adjust all your settings for the page layout there
HOW DO I TRANSFER OR SET A DWG FROM MODEL SPACE TO LAYOUT SPACE
Hi Shared. on your paperspace layout, double click inside your viewport then type CHSPACE. Then select your objects you want to move from model space to paperspace
how can I scale properly without using viewport?
I need your help
Hi, what can i help you with?
I setup my own scale list for metric scales with a suffix of "m" for metres and "mm" for millimetres. All you need to do is pick your scale from the list from the bottom bar to scale your model to the layout space. Double quick with no calculator needed ever again.
Thx
