Every review of the African Twin with the automatic I have seen says the automatic makes it a terrible off-road or Adventure bike. The consensus is the auto is good for the street, dirt roads but not any hard riding.
Hey all. This was the first H/L episode that I have stayed through the whole show. I will say the comment about Alonzo being outside the motorcycling world,,to me, he is the average guy speaking about the motorcycling world. It was great. Thank you,
As a longtime listener of "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me", I have been a fan of Alonzo for a while now. As a rider of the same age and size, I like hearing his takes on other types of bikes.
What a fine interview. And finally! A biker who I'm simpatico with. Favorite place is in my helmet; check. Uses his bike for commuting in city with ridiculous traffic; check. Finds loud pipes annoying; check. Comfort considerations (heated anything..); check. This channel has become the modern-day Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Talk Shows
Great interview, the bike visuals were much appreciated. I've been going to Americade since 2004 and have never seen Alonzo's stand up. Now, know what I've been missing!👍
I had a good feeling about this one. Alonzo is so relateable as a rider. It's uncanny how much he and I have similar views about motorcycles, and perspective. You guys had great questions and great engagement!
For someone just learning is it even a good idea to recommend group riding at all? I always encouraged folks to learn to ride either taking classes and riding solo or with 1 or 2 experienced riders who are OK riding with a learner. Big groups don't often encourage good habits in my experience (though I'm a solo rider kind of guy so maybe am more critical than I should be). Great show no criticism just want more... and thanks to Revzilla for supporting this content! (and Motul I'd say that I would start using them but 300v is the only thing I've ever used in my Ducati's). Suggestion for next season... bikes for small riders. My wife has her license but was intimidated by the bigger bikes she had to ride and the small bikes (250's) were TOO small (she ended up with a Ural where size isn't a factor, but now would like 2 wheel options again). Maybe another women riders episode with a female guest (your Noraly season finale a while back was great). As Alonzo mentioned and many of us agree... would much rather see a woman rider of ANY shape in leathers riding a bike than one in lingerie draped across one.
What a fabulous guest! Used to listen to "Wait, wait..." when I lived over there and that voice grabbed me straight away and took me back. So engaging and interesting, loved his stories, riding experiences and attitude. Alonzo for Prez.
I had a Bandit 1200 20 odd years ago and have fond memories of it. My (ex) wife hated riding on the back - I think that’s why I sold it. Into KTM’s and Huskies now. Great wrap up of the season!
I want to pile on to the common sentiment and say this was the best show yet! I really enjoyed hearing Alonzo’s stories and takes on your questions. I was left wanting more and also to give Alonzo my number for the next bike he wants to sell. Alonzo I’m looking for a Diavel, Honda Monkey, Ducati Supersport, Ninja 400, BMW R12, Rocket 3, Supermoto If you want to ride it for 3 months and give it away for a song I’m your man in the LA area!
Excellent episode! Alonzo was a super fun guest who has a great voice & so much knowledge about all the bikes he’s ridden through all phases of his life.
I’m on my second Honda DCT bike, love it! My hand and wrist can’t handle a heavy clutch pull but I’m now all in on not shifting either way, it’s The Good Life!
Offroad I use the clutch quite a bit for technical low speed stuff (the way you manage power without a rekluse)... so I'm curious how well an automatic would work in those conditions (when managed slip is needed). I suspect it'll be put on big bikes that won't see this kind of use (don't need to feather the clutch to get into the Starbucks parking lot). Love the Buffalo Braves T! I actually had a basketball guy tell me I was lying when I told him Buffalo used to have a pro team.
You leverage the rear brake and engine braking more in more technical situations with DCT. The hand paddle shift really works well. I don’t know if I could see it ever being useful on 250/450 sized dual sports or full blown sport bikes but on mid to heavy adventure bikes it’s gonna be very useful.
Enjoyed Alonzo interview immensely, thanks. But you guys dropped the ball on engine sound. I don’t own a Harley but clearly as soon as key turned, engine stated who it was. Then I heard turbine but not connected mechanically as turbine whistle lagged behind slight throttle blip, so not supercharged. Had to be turbo.
Alonzo and I agree - my favorite place to be is also alone in my helmet. I have been riding since 1966, and I'm 71 and just test rode a BMW 2 days ago as I am shopping to buy my next, and 44th motorcycle... Riding is the best thing I can do to relax.
A big part of why I love to ride is the engagement with the machine… right side braking, left side clutch and shift, so some combo of that on older bikes… boooo to automatic.
42:03 I would say the CB1100 is the spitting image of, not the original early '70s CB750, but more like the '79-'83. The engines look virtually identical (except for the lack of carbs), the frame looks the same, still has exposed twin springs and dampers on the rear...just like my '79 CB750-F. But without any rear bodywork between seat and taillight, so kinda like a mix of the F and the Custom. Still very much an old-school design.
I recently bought new motorcycle with QS and that thing is a game changer. Automatic transmissons have gone a long way since their beginning and I think it will only benefit riders as we can focus more on riding itself. Other nice benefit is, that even people with disabilities will be able to ride a motorcycle (or riders after heavy accidents will still be able to ride).
Ah the final episode of the season, always makes me a little sad. However, if nothing ever came to an end nothing would ever get started. So, HS/LS let's get to another beginnings end! Sean over at Bikes and Beards has a diesel KLR, only diesel motorcycle I've ever seen. Hey, very cool I was once an Aviation Maintenance Technician! My first bike was a 1972 Honda CB450, this guy and I would get on infamously I should think. Yes Spurge, we all know that every motorcycle comes with a built in chick magnet lol! Honestly, I don't think I would ever buy a new bike. Same as with a car let someone else take the hit on the depreciation. Now we know why Nicole married Spurge he's real life safe Jax lol! Alonzo is great you should have him back for "a whole nuther podcast!" I'm thinking it might be the Suzuki M109R. Thought it might be Harley as well but there's a whine in the background that sounds non-American. Very cheeky Chase its that new CVO. So, Alonzo does not stand with Turbo Bruce? Wish I could say see you Get on ADV Fest but thats not in the cards this year. Maybe next year Revzilla will do a Get On ADV Fest giveaway, grand prize will be an all expense paid trip for 2 to Get On ADV Fest in your choice of MOAB or The Black Hills! So, Revzilla if your reading this, and I know that you are, lets make that happen in season 9! Another great show and another great season old sports and see you in season 9!
For a second I thought I was listening to "Wait wait don't tell me", but it turns out it was Hi-Side/Low-side podcast! Turns out these guys are pretty darn funny themselves. Eat your heart out, NPR
Great stuff fellas!! Alonzo is super funny, passionate about riding, and super knowledgeable about motorcycles. Super solid guy all around. I think I know who crashed his bike too! LOL!! Actually, you guys should do a series of riding around the cities/country and doing things on mc's, like what Norman Reedus did but your own way. That would be pretty dope, funny, knowledgeable and engaging to many, and might be pretty popular series. If you do it, I want in!! lol. As far as a future episode guest, reach out to guitarist Gilby Clarke (Guns n' Roses). He's super cool, passionate and super knowledgeable about mc's, and a really good guy like Alonzo. Be & ride well everyone!!
Initial thoughts, "What are they doing! A comedian? They've really hit rock bottom. They did such a good job with this season, even knocking it out of the park in the Father's Day episode... but now they got a comedian? Jump the shark lately?" Half way through, "Alonzo Bodden, gunna have to look him up when I'm done with work... wait, I'm kind of alone. No, no, integrity is every day. Gah, these guys are good, Zack and Spurge are my bestest Podcast buddies." Yeah, great show! Amazing guest! Best season? Might have to listen to them all again, I'll get back to you.
I finally won an engine sound guessing game fully through. I knew M8 engine immediately and I was 99% sure it was a turbo but the revs were low enough that I wasn’t sure if the shorty intake would make that noise. Then when they said air and water cooled I knew it was a CVO
Also, I believe Alonzo’s opinion on naturally aspirated engines on motorcycles, over any kind of forced induction is valid. Fast enough with great sound naturally. Caveat here, the H2 Kawasaki does sound great when worked hard.
If You come to Redbull Romaniacs let me know. I'll prepare the barbecue and serve some traditional 'mici'. I like the podcast and how hard you try to make it look professional 😅. I still learned a lot from you and I feel encouraged to ride.
Honda's system has a foot shifter option for the dct as well, you'll just never use it when the you realize how good the hand-paddle shift is for manual mode. I'm usually a tradionalist but I think reality is that KTM is doing this because the auto+manual shifter it is actually better for offroad adventure type riding. I know it seems "soft" and it takes a little bit to get used to but the first time you do a steep gravel hillclimb with a fully loaded big bike it starts to make sense.
The only thing about riding alone is that you are at the mercy of strangers when things go bad. Two of my friends hit deer in the last couple of weeks traveling through PA. Had they been on their own when the accidents happened they would have been laying on their backs in the middle of a back road. Because we were with them (two small groups) we were able to get them help 500miles from home. I definitely don't want anything to do with riding with 50 strangers but seeing your buddy go down in front of you makes you think
Hi Spurge, in order to restore the motorcycling image, you should pursue Zack to be in a movie about the life of a motorcyclist with him saying oohhhh yeahhhh, hell yeahhhhh, holy Moses!!!!!! like he says in daily rider. That will do the trick according to me, no need for a t shirt I live in India it's too far 😅
I strongly disliked Spurg having to keep going back and summarizing and explaining something to the audience. It stopped the flow of conversations almost everytime. This is a motorcycle podcast, there's no need for that.
In Vegas in the early, mid 80s there where women riders that in the summer would wear riding boots, sneakers, military boots, jeans, a riding jacket with only a bra under it they would buy paddded lace bras in multi colors and would crack up at the reaction they would get pulling up to a station and unzipping their jacket as they walked toward the store to pay for petal
Alonzo is hilarious as always and I totally agree with the Harley image being so unappealing. It’s as if you don’t belong if you’re not a beer guzzling white dude that thinks he’s tough and hangs out in strip clubs. It’s good to know HD is improving their products and trying to improve their image; hopefully this will allow them to to lower their prices. That would do worlds of good for their image and customers.
Would love to see more guests. Suggestions from me are... Keanu Reeves Norman Reedus Ricky Carmichael I know these are big name busy people but hey, it never hurts to ask, right!😃
sooooooo........the BEST dualsport all round bike, the honda ct110, has its clutch that in effect you dont need to touch the clutch, but you can and thats an old system and i see that it is a system that, wouldnt work on the more powerful bikes, and they work, and are popular (in the rest of the world that is, mostly in asia, like, the largest market) so this is the next step as tastes change also, i would think that a large part of the US market (globally a joke y'all dont drive stick ;) )
Eddie yes Dan no. Dan is a shifty salesman making money off of others misfortune and fear mongering, Eddie actually teaches and focuses on personal and physical growth. Just my two cents as a longtime rider and watcher of both.
@wizardmoto As a longtime rider and follower of both myself, I'm more focused on their reach and focus on safety. Both are doing the same work, in different ways.

Between the jokes and knowledge dropped, the most enjoyable HS/LS episode.
Alonzo is the best. Funny, smart, a real class guy. Props for getting him to join you on the podcast.
Hey all. This was the first H/L episode that I have stayed through the whole show. I will say the comment about Alonzo being outside the motorcycling world,,to me, he is the average guy speaking about the motorcycling world. It was great. Thank you,
there was one with the guy from donut media as well that was very funny
I usually watch the whole show. Only one I ever skipped was with the Fort9 guy.
Any of the H.S.L.S with Ari Henning are really good!
I usually listen to podcasts during my commute. I can’t really stand to watch a podcast since it feels like I’m wasting time 🤣
This was the BEST HSLS thus far. Thoroughly enjoyed Alonzo and his take on motorcycling and the banter between the three of you in general. Loved it!
As a longtime listener of "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me", I have been a fan of Alonzo for a while now. As a rider of the same age and size, I like hearing his takes on other types of bikes.
I've been watching HSLS for a long time but I have to say that Alonzo was such an engaging guest. Love the content. Please keep it going!
What a fine interview. And finally! A biker who I'm simpatico with. Favorite place is in my helmet; check. Uses his bike for commuting in city with ridiculous traffic; check. Finds loud pipes annoying; check. Comfort considerations (heated anything..); check.

Oh, what a treat! Never thought I would enjoy this podcast so much. Bring Alonzo back please!
100 % love this guest! Nothing but respect for a fellow brother. 💚🇨🇦☘️
One of my favorite guests so far you should bring him back every season if you can. My first time finding out about this man.
Great interview, the bike visuals were much appreciated. I've been going to Americade since 2004 and have never seen Alonzo's stand up. Now, know what I've been missing!👍

This if the first time is I’ve listened to a full interview like this. Very entertaining. (I agree about the turbos not being needed) -FJR1300 owner
The finale episodes always cover so much ground, and, at the same time, recap the entire season. Brilliant! Looking forward so much to next season!!
You guys went out with a bang of a show.
I want to pile on to the common sentiment and say this was the best show yet! I really enjoyed hearing Alonzo’s stories and takes on your questions. I was left wanting more and also to give Alonzo my number for the next bike he wants to sell.

Listening to this episode is so much fun. Makes me feel not so bad loosing my weekend doing side work.

It's an awesome show, your chemistry and everything top notch! Always a pleasant surprise!
Yeah, Alonzo a great way to wind up the season!
This is just fantastic on so many levels. I’m just in awe.
this was amazing podcast, Alonzo certainly knows how to tell a story and has tons of them. Great episode to close the season.
Great episode and what an even greater guest. I love a non brand specific motorcycle enthusiast.
Zach's face when the turbo question came up was the best.
Great episode! Alonzo may not be formally a motorcycle insider, but clearly he has a lot of insight into the industry.
Great finale to another great season!
Alonzo and I agree - my favorite place to be is also alone in my helmet. I have been riding since 1966, and I'm 71 and just test rode a BMW 2 days ago as I am shopping to buy my next, and 44th motorcycle... Riding is the best thing I can do to relax.

Great podcast with Alonso, informative and enjoyable.

Fantastic stuff as always
Spurg, those of us listening know what runes and rocket 3s are

Thanks guys
Great guest! In the guessing game Alonzo shows so much knowledge.
Great episode. Alonzo did 90% of the talking.😂

Bwwahahahaha "Superbikes are fun.... If your knees fold"
How about you two guys doing a reprise of the 50 cc bike ride to Aspen?!!!!
Only my 2 time loved it great guys i drive truck so i will be hooking this up to my blue tooth great job !!
I met Alonzo at pro Italia about a month ago. He gave me a ridiculously sweet deal on the top box from his v4 pikes peak.
This was a really fun episode
Jeremy McGrath was the man when I was a kid and I’ve been a Honda fan my whole life
Enjoyed. Thank you.
Any word on when the new season drops? Really enjoyed getting to know Zack and Spurgeon and learning more about two wheels!

This was awesome podcast episode guest was amazing.
You should get Jay Leno on the show 😊😊❤❤
KTM Clutchless: Ready To Retire
😂
Alonzo such common sense. Good episode!
I finally won an engine sound guessing game fully through. I knew M8 engine immediately and I was 99% sure it was a turbo but the revs were low enough that I wasn’t sure if the shorty intake would make that noise. Then when they said air and water cooled I knew it was a CVO
I love Alonzo on wait wait don't tell me. I'm such a nerd 🤓 but I'm a nerd that rides. 😎
Also, I believe Alonzo’s opinion on naturally aspirated engines on motorcycles, over any kind of forced induction is valid. Fast enough with great sound naturally. Caveat here, the H2 Kawasaki does sound great when worked hard.
Cars are even moving out of the way when lane splitting on interstate highways in San Antonio, Texas. Most drivers 99.9% are awesome.
If You come to Redbull Romaniacs let me know. I'll prepare the barbecue and serve some traditional 'mici'.
I like the podcast and how hard you try to make it look professional 😅. I still learned a lot from you and I feel encouraged to ride.
You guys should have Sean from Bikes and Beards on your next season!
My world’s are colliding. 🤯
Fantastic guess and No turbo on bike ( I had a honda cx650)
The only thing about riding alone is that you are at the mercy of strangers when things go bad. Two of my friends hit deer in the last couple of weeks traveling through PA. Had they been on their own when the accidents happened they would have been laying on their backs in the middle of a back road. That will do the trick according to me, no need for a t shirt I live in India it's too far 😅
You guys need to meet Ross Noble!
1:06:00 life is too short to put up with a boring bike!
The fact they couldn’t hear the turbo was wild to me lol wtf. It’s the only thing I could hear
Pine Barren Scourge!
I strongly disliked Spurg having to keep going back and summarizing and explaining something to the audience. It stopped the flow of conversations almost everytime. This is a motorcycle podcast, there's no need for that.
strongly.
I'd send an engine sound but you would guess it too easily
Mr. Bodden is awesome! Any chance that he'll buy an ARCH KRGT-1?
In Vegas in the early, mid 80s there where women riders that in the summer would wear riding boots, sneakers, military boots, jeans, a riding jacket with only a bra under it they would buy paddded lace bras in multi colors and would crack up at the reaction they would get pulling up to a station and unzipping their jacket as they walked toward the store to pay for petal
I have no idear who Alonzo Bodden is in comedy but his motorcycle story is pretty awesome. I can't say I disagree with any of it.
It would be great for you to get the rit Michael Neeves on your show, or even Chris Moss, he would be such a great character to have
Alonzo is hilarious as always and I totally agree with the Harley image being so unappealing. It’s as if you don’t belong if you’re not a beer guzzling white dude that thinks he’s tough and hangs out in strip clubs.
It’s good to know HD is improving their products and trying to improve their image; hopefully this will allow them to to lower their prices. That would do worlds of good for their image and customers.
first thing i heard there was a harley with a turbo. now which one, i would never have come up with .
Just so you guys know. For some reason most of us can’t leave a review on apple podcasts because apple has removed that ability
Would love to see more guests.
Suggestions from me are...
Keanu Reeves
Norman Reedus
Ricky Carmichael
I know these are big name busy people but hey, it never hurts to ask, right!😃
finale already??? aw man
CTXP TURBO BIKE BUILD!!!!!! (not a harley - something there isnt an off the shelf kit for)

...And I ride alone
Yeaaah, with nobody else.
'Cause you know when I ride alone
I prefer to be by myself
Great guest. +1 on turbo…..
Actually, Taliban uses the Toyota Hilux and 70 series Landcruiser
Season 9 has to have Keanu Reeves
sooooooo........the BEST dualsport all round bike, the honda ct110, has its clutch that in effect you dont need to touch the clutch, but you can
and thats an old system
and i see that it is a system that, wouldnt work on the more powerful bikes, and they work, and are popular (in the rest of the world that is, mostly in asia, like, the largest market)
so this is the next step as tastes change
also, i would think that a large part of the US market (globally a joke y'all dont drive stick ;) )

@Roy_Godiksen I agree their approaches are very different. One promotes skill and one promotes fear.
@@wizardmoto sometimes, you need fear to reach the audience. I've followed both for a long time, and both methods work very well.
