Yes, the lyrics in his song are typically great, but he can cover other artist songs and either take it from them or make it his own..which says alot when you see the ppl he does covers of. His voice just connects to pain and raw emotion.

This isn't the original.. Dean Dillon wrote this song in 1980 and offered it to George Strait who turned it down. David Allen Coe was the first to record the song in 1981 and then George Jones in 1983. The song never hit the charts until Chris Stapleton's bluesey cover in 2015.

Probably the best version, however it was on David Allen Coe album named as the song name. 1981.
The song Tennessee Whiskey was written by David Allen Coe and released by Coe in 1981 so Chris' version is actually a cover. Chris Stapleton is his own Genre and, to me, each song he does has a different feel. My suggestions are Death Row, It's a Man's World live, Cold, I Was Wrong, Watch you Burn, Hillbilly Blood just to name a few. I'm pretty sure out of the songs I suggested, the only one he didn't write is It's a Man's World.
