Ryan is so skilled in everything. You’re saving so much money by knowing how to do it yourself. It’s a of work but y’all are doing an awesome job. Have a blessed day.
Love the ‘we will know but nobody else will’ line…. And then post on TH-cam!!! It’s looking great but you need to get in to the tiny home mindset and use the height and reduce floor space, and everything in there needs multiple uses to earn its space.
All in good fun, my friend 😆 This cabin is really just a shelter - our main cabin is in the planning stages. We have made lots of changes in terms of space in the cabin though - well oiled machine 😆
Heyyyy there Vikki! Thank you so much! It is such fun to watch something come about to such a lovely end... the wood just transformed right in front of our eyes 💚
I love watching your videos right now I am binge watching so I can catch up, I spent my whole weekend watching your videos only and it has been time well spent. I have to crack up every time I hear Melodi say "OH, DEAR"
We love that you're on this journey with us! Thank you for your comments, they are always really great and we look forward to reading them. We appreciate you! 💚
Wow wiring! Great job. But Ryan had me laughing when he said ‘why do it once when you can do it multiple times’ 😂😂😂😂😂😂. That’s exactly how we feel doing our major Reno’s on our place🤣🤣🤣 Love the stained wood counter😍.
Thank you so much for the recognition. Ryan is such a great partner in life - husband and otherwise. We have fun and we work hard... we just fall in a heap at the end of the day most days on the island... 💤
Happy Thursday ,Ryan and Melodi ❤ Another great video 😊 the wood stained turned out beautifully 😍 And Ryan is capable of anything 😀 👌 Really appreciate you taking us along ❤❤Much love from Toledo OH 🫶🩷🩷
There are some rocks well back from the waters edge that we should be able to collect. Even stock-piling them for later use would be a good thing to do. Thanks so much for your useful suggestion! -Ryan.
Love the color of that wood there it is wonderful !!! Cabin is doing great with how little it is it has too be done this way for you to live safely in it !!! Have extra room to do things in there also for future use !!! I like the netting over the bed got 1 of those in the basement for camping trips or roofing for myself !!!
That's a very good point, thank you. There definitely is a sense of pride when you build something with your own hands and live in it!! I ask Ryan all the time, 'Doesn't that just feel so great to know you built this?' He does agree. Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Your skills are pretty impressive Ryan! Great job guys. Right there with you on the hubby not hearing you Melodi🙄Mine has a speaker hobby🎵🎶he also never wears ear protection when building things. I'm like a broken record around here lol.
Thank you so much Sarah! You are always so kind. Ryan's got skillzzz... so grateful for him. The lack of hearing protection has been a source of reminders for many years now... 🙉 his 'band days' didn't help matters lol 😆 😂
Youve got gravel on your shore and the lake washes the grsvel over years of bashing the pebbles with the waves. Your mini digger Pepper can scrape it all up at low water 💧
I can’t imagine wearing those respirators all the time! I couldn’t even wear one when we were demoing the house. I love the look of that love edge counter. Awesome that even in the smoke you could still get some solar power. Sure hope this next summer is better! ~Deb
Thank you for your insight, I appreciate your comment. Our panels here have cutouts on the sides for box connectors. Sometimes, like in this case, it is just not practical to enter the panel from the bottom. Thank you for watching! -Ryan.
I agree its much easier to go from the top and bottom almost all breaker boxes have side conectors spots but are rarly used he will have to undo the pannel later when he runs power out the back of the box.
Its not paint on your stove pipe. Its black lead. You can buy it and apply it yourself. The victorians called it black lead or blacking and the maids were forever cleaning with it. Its a filthy job and i dont know what you call it over there. I had some for my old fireplace and i dont know if i still have some but if i do ill let you know what its called. Im sure it had a name like Liberon
That's interesting...hmmmm. We also did speak with Shawn the stove man and he mentioned that it could have been a bad batch of paint and when the fire got too hot, it reacted badly. We are going to try another treatment and just see if that's it.
I know it is too late, but I would have put a piece of plywood behind the exterior wall and the panel box. Plus it brings the box out further allowing the door to swing. Allowing the panelling/drywall/pine boards or whatever you panel with after insulation..
Nope, not too late at all. We always welcome advice of all kind. Never too old to learn! I believe I did fir it out because it lined up perfectly with the wall covering. Thanks for watching. -Ryan.
Hopefully you have already resolved it, but your stove pipe is installed upside down, such that liquids on the inside drain down to the outside of your pipe and probably cause the caustic staining your seeing. This often happens when rains get into the pipe and contact the creosote coating the inside of the pipe. Hope that helps.
Yes, you are correct. The issue is that this stove is circa 1915 and back then the connector pipe was male end UP. The common practice of crimped end DOWN didn't become a thing until the '70s, I believe. To make this right, I'll have to have some custom sheet metal made up, or cut the crimp off the connector pipe and see if that will work in terms of allowing me to reverse the orientation of the chimney all the way up to the cap. In any case, I need to get that done. Thanks for the nudge, and thank you for watching! -Ryan.
@@mywildholm They do make a sort of gender-changer for the stove port. But like anything for woodstoves, they aren't cheap. Paying to get something made may be cheaper.
@@mywildholm Also don't burn cardboard packaging or newspaper with ink in it. Those items will build up toxic substances that you will end up breathing in. You can get blank newspaper (no ink) around somewhere, but you have a whole forest of firestarter no need to buy anything.

Hello islanders! You are such hard workers. The staining was beautiful! ❤

I drink a shot every time...
Great progress!!!! Happy to see you using the safety equipment. No one looks back and says I wish I'd wore a respirator or head phones less.
Isn't that the truth?!! I'm big on it! Ryan... not so much...a bit of coaxing 😆
Wow wiring! Great job. But Ryan had me laughing when he said ‘why do it once when you can do it multiple times’ 😂😂😂😂😂😂. That’s exactly how we feel doing our major Reno’s on our place🤣🤣🤣 Love the stained wood counter😍.
😂 😁 Ryan makes me laugh too... I bet you are having a ball with your Reno's!! So rewarding though right?
I’m getting ready to head to our little fixer upper when OJ gets off work at 2, and saw your video was up! Guess he’ll have to wait a bit! 😂🇨🇦☕️ ~Deb
Awww Deb you have been such a constant support! Thank you - more than you know... 💚
It is incredible seeing the diversity of skills you guys have, to do so much of this yourselves.

Ryan really is capable of anything - he is a wonderful partner and I am truly blessed! 🌿
Now that you have the Kubota, when the water drops next time you can get gravel from the shore. Looked like there was lots.
There are some rocks well back from the waters edge that we should be able to collect. Even stock-piling them for later use would be a good thing to do. Thanks so much for your useful suggestion! -Ryan.
Your new countertop looks wonderful, great progress. Hoping your next summer does without all the wildfires. ❤
Thank you so much! Yes, we are also hoping for clear skies. This one was particularly difficult... We press on 💚
Home is coming along nicely
Thank you so much Mona! It is a blessing in our lives ☀
It is so amazing how you made your decision on where you were going to put your breaker box in your tiny home
Awww thank you for sticking with us during the process!! 💚

Good progress
Thank you so much for watching! We appreciate you keeping track of it 💚
So many decisions but it is working out!
Every single day! It's fun though... we really relish those moments. You never know what's around the corner either... keep on keeping on 😆
Make sure you coat the underside of your countertops and use a natural wood to help. Keep them from splitting and drying out just an FYI tip.
That is a great tip!!! I'll do that right away! Thank you!

Yes, good point. We've noticed how much we have as we as finding lots of sand deposits which are also valuable in many ways.

Oh yikes!! Yes!! It's brutal and made the year quite a challenge - we are so hoping for clear skies this Spring/ Summer
Great video and great counter top, so many decisions but doing great! Have a good day and weekend.
Thank you so much Heather. It's always decision time in our place... so much fun to figure it all out.
@@mywildholm your welcome
Smart thing to have done, was to light a fire in the stove Outside to burn off the chemical smell
We'll definitely do that next time when building the bigger cabin. That smell lingered with the stove for 3 or 4 times when lighting it though.
FWIW the wires are rarely ran into the side of the electrical panel. Most of them are ran out of the top or bottom.

Dont put your electric box under the window. No no noin case of damp if window is open
Very very good advice!
