I’ve had my golf R over a month and a half now and I have 0 complaints on the screen interfaces. They just work. Of course like any other electronic device you need to get used to it. I remember when I switched from android to iPhone I needed to learn how to operate the new device, now is very easy, same thing with this new interface. Once you learn it is a breeze to operate. I got mine with a manual gearbox and it’s a blast to drive! I love this car!
Dude- there's a traction control shortcut (and a handful of other shortcuts as well) when you swipe down on the screen. Add traction control to the shortcut, and it's just a swipe and a press away.
I agree. Why review a car you don’t get to know properly I’ve had mine since January and absolutely love it as a daily driver it’s great. Infotainment could respond better but even that’s not a big problem once set up. And I’ve maybe once pressed the heated steering wheel button by mistake. No big deal. I’m more than happy with mine and I had the 7.5 before this.
Rants in for 3 mins how complicated it but ignores the shortcut menu. And if your touching the haptic buttons while your driving you prob shouldn’t have a licence. The way you need to hold the wheel for that to happen means your an idiot 😂. Where are the real reviews about this car
3 colors really, and $55K with $10K market adjustment here in California. I do prefer my 7.5 R infotainment, I drove a Mk8 GTI for a few days no issues but no love either. I found myself taking my eyes off the roadway too much and for too long. I bought out the lease on my 2019 DSG for $28K with 57k miles and 3.5 years left on the warranty, in my case a no brainer half the price. Golf R rock.
I've owned 2 MK7 R's and a MK7 GTI - Recently traded my R with APR stage 2 in on a MK8 GTI. Actually have an R coming, and the wife is going to keep the new MK8 GTI. My real only beef with the infotainment system is the Climate control. I'd prefer the quick access of the fan dial. I've put almost 1000kms on the GTI, and the info system is something you learn to use, and the haptic wheel buttons work fine and not once have I accidently called someone or turned on the heated wheel etc. The wheel itself feels amazing and is way better than the MK7 (which was also nice) and the power delivery is noticeably more linear than the previous GTI. While I think I"d prefer some physical buttons for the climate control, it's something you get used to and there are short cuts to most of the common wants (like turning on heated seats, TCS off, etc). Overall, I think my biggest issue with the car is a lack of overhead sunglasses compartment.
Agreed. The Golf R mk7.5 is my current car and i have no desire going to a mk8. I even think the front looks better on the mk 7.5. But what a stuff up with the traction control and the touch buttons on the steering wheel. Anyone could have predicted thst people will inadvertently touch them whiles turning the stering wheel.
Horrible review really and I have watched dozens of them. You have to be an Iphone user. Just from watching video reviews and reading comments, and you even edited your video to mention that you can add a shortcut for the traction control, once you take the time to set things up it would be as simple as a swipe down on the screen to get into that setting. There are quirks with this infotainment system no doubt from what I have seen in reviews such as using satellite radio while driving is a nightmare, but overall the performance improvements with the MK8R and what comes standard on it these days, at an elevated cost unfortunately but not all of VW's fault, trumps the MK7R.

Did you see the card and video description about that?

@@MC-gp1zg There's a link in the video showing how to create that shortcut, with a notice in the video description.

I've never accidentally touched the steering wheel buttons and I've had the car for 4 months now.

Auto use more fuel allway has done manual eny day but u can’t get in uk 🇬🇧
I think you have that opposite. The DSG gets better fuel economy than the 6 speed manual.
