Ruby weapon is immune to an explout/glitch? Wow he is tough, I feel like the developers may have tried to delete him from the game but he was immune to the recycle bin.
The Game Over attack simply uses Death at 100% chance with the ability to ignore targets' *statuses immunity.* But Ruby has, in addition to the normal status immunity, a global *invulnerability* that just ignores any action (kind of Peerless). That's why this Limit does nothing at this point. Ruby loses this ability the first time he puts his hands in the ground. Then, eventually, Cait Sith could Mime so you wouldn't need to roll the slots again. xD
So ruby is hard? Assuming you beat Emerald or you spent tons of time to get, equip master summon and KoTR. Pare them up with hp absorb and mp absorb. and spam KoTR 7-8 times win. Full mp/hp heal every time and unlimited usage.
That black flag thing, they had that in the Digimon game on PS1. I remember it had a slot system too and I KNEW I was doing it right. But it would always skip that 3rd one over to the next one. I hate that I spent so damn long mastering that slot machine minigame and then got punished for it. The black flag system is a terrible design idea.

I love the idea of pseudo-random events like that. Technically, it's not random at all and is based on a known set of variables/flags etc. but, being that we're puny humans that can barely even comprehend/act at 60fps and can't accurately trace the state transitions of the game, it may as well be completely random from our POV.
It'd be hilarious to see you hack the game where Peerless, computer controlled Sephiroth takes on Magic Pots (assuming the program would not be smart enough to give them Elixirs). What madness would ensue? A battle of futility!
Holy shit, this is a total game-changer. Tried this last night, finally got it to work after a few tries. It's nice to actually benefit from their experience, rather than already being level 99. Plus, the ability to completely skip choco breeding is choice.
I just realized no one knew how to consistantly get Game Over all those years ago!!! I thought it was just a hidden trick to double-tap on the last face... Doesn’t have to be superfast, simply double-tap the final face, worked every single time for me when I was a kid. Didn’t know it wasn’t well known until now :O and definitively didn’t know it wasn’t supposed to happen when double-tapped
Had no idea you could manipulate this. While I did have to reload my save a few times, to a point right before this fight with Cait Sith's Limit at max, I sat at watched the "rhythm" of the slots, to the point where it almost became a Bemani-style game, hitting buttons at specific points. As mentioned, as well as you point out, even with practice, can still mess up and take a few tries, this was the one and only time I used "Game Over"; I regret nothing.
I've had this game since 1998, and I didn't know about this trick until almost 20 years later. Cait Sith's game over trick makes this game a cinch! Once you've mastered this trick, you won't even need Knights Of The Round, and if you still want to get it, you can defeat Emerald Weapon and take the Earth Harp to this guy in Kalm and he'll give you all 3 master materias. That beats having to breed a whole bunch of chocobos. Also, if you defeat Ruby Weapon, you can take the Desert Rose to him, and he'll give you a gold chocobo.
In FF6 you can manipulate Setzer's slot ability by using an echo screen and then pausing and unpauaing the game, you can get 7-7-7 for Joker Doom on any boss but a select few. I won't go into it much, but there's a random number generator and since you can just like I said before, pause and unpause it. So the wheels are heavily rigged against you, with a chance of not even having anything but Lagomorph, 7-Flush, or Joker Doom that hits your party. But when the animation of Cure 3 is played, it increases by 10. With an Echo Screen or a Smoke Bomb, it makes it possible to use anything. So that's an instant kill, but not as good as Vanish-Doom.
holy crap xD I never used cait sith and if I was forced to I certainly don't recall ever using his limit break. I had no idea you could one shot the weapons legitimately lol!
Oh, the dread... Cait Sith's limit break truly is mighty, but there's no worse feeling then that moment when you line up the first two parts of his face by chance. If you get the last part of the face, then wonderful! If you get BAR, though...

Been playin' this game since i was a kid and i never ever knew about this, it's crazy to know how broken and untested the best FF is. I guess they really where in a hurry to release it.
So I'm currently in the middle of a New Threat 1.5 play through. I'd just gotten Cait Sith's Slots limit quite late and thought I'd see if I could use the exploit to insta kill Nemesis in the Gold Match. After a fair few tries it kept skipping that last head even I coulda sworn I hit it perfectly. Your explination of the black flag makes so much sense now. After 10-15 tries I did finally manage to hit all the Cait Sith heads, so I guess I must have beaten the odds because I didn't know that you could cancel the limit to exploit it further. Despite doing that, Im contemplating whether to reload the save as its super cheesey but I'm definitely not ready to take on Nemesis yet
wow, I didn't even know that Cait Sith is potentially that over-powered, one can cheese the northern crater with him (more with grinding to level him up)
There is easier way to get 3rd reel, after you get 2 first reels you just count 3 bars and double tap it always gives you the game over no mather what.

"He found a way to cheat the slots" I remember double tapping circle for the last slot to get cait's face when I was 12. It's not a new discovery by any means, any guide you read mentions it. It bypasses the game's forced slot forwarding entirely.

I would like to say I used this try in battle arena and got cure the whole round of battles . Then the next round of battles it would not let me do it at all. I was stuck with one item to pick each battle I won! Lol I lost as a toad fighting the big plant monster at the end of the battles. Lol it was fun though. 🙂

I use him as a wall. He has a ton of HP and solid defenses. He's sub-par with offensive magic, but just a step below Aerith in curatives. I only used him seriously in one playthrough though.

Technically it *can* work on him too, it just needs to not hit him during said invulnerability phase. The vid of it being done is on youtube as well.
Ruby also has enough defense where he's immune to the Overflow glitch. They really don't want him to be cheated.
An ive read that some people think Emerald is the harder one to defeat. Emerald is a cake walk compared to Ruby.

Emerald weapon waited 5 minutes for Cait Sith's first move, and then boom!

Selphie's 'The End' is probably my favorite of the game over attacks.
Also, the trick is easier on the PS1. Just simply open the disc tray to circle around the end w/o getting hit.

i didnt realise that holding square stopped the reels. i just used to mash sqaure to see the order and then quickly press the confirm button.
