Amen. Should we not always desire revival as we prudently check all things as the Bereans. Loved "God likes to bless the needle of truth in the haystack of error." Is that not all of us no matter how wonderfully we have been blessed with spiritual understanding?
Why are people "chasing" revival like Asbury is the flavor of the month? God is everywhere and wants lives changed everywhere. Pray where you are planted!

It's the Charismatic version of the Catholic pilgrimage. Just smoke and mirrors. These revivals have only precedence in Charismatic circles, not the Bible. It seems that America truly believes it has replaced Israel as the apple of His eye. Very worrying given America is likely to be the Tribulational Babylon of the Antichrist.
There is a verse somewhere in the Bible where Jesus said there's is a work that God's going to do and when he does it when someone tells them they won't believe it
😂 if this is the work of God I don't believe it is because when you have Rick warrent in there kissing another man and doing all these other things and saying how good this is it can't be real it can't be of the Lord it can't be the moving of the holy Spirit you better be getting some discernment about all these things we better come out of her my people and not partake of her plagues yes God said that he will work even though they won't believe😂 it may not be this one not Asbury, you got to remember the devil is slick in this end time he's going to come in and deceive many they're going to say here is God lord here is God here is here is true here is this but you're deceiving many so be careful😂
Are we reading the same Bible? You are correct we are to try the spirits, but when you hear the Spirit of God say go you should act. Rescue the perishing and care for the dying. Stop criticizing and do the work! The Harvest is Ripe but where are the laborers?
I do ask Holy Father that you would bring revival in me and that you would bring revival to pastor Tom Ascol and those who are Yours in that gathering at Grace Church. If You are willing, I ask that you will start with that congregation . Thank you Holy Father .
If this was a true revival, one of the things that would be evident would be a realization of just how out of balance the modern evangelical world has elevated the singing of theologically vapid songs to a level of significance that Scripture has not elevated it and to the exclusion of those things, like evangelism and leaving the things of the world behind, that Scripture DOES elevate. Jer. 48:11
If this was a real revival, they would have burned the place down. The entire church is 100% apostate and the one thing no church will ever allow is Biblical truth. Only the Godless worlds fake christianity is allowed.
This video from Todd Friel is a good addition to these two gentlemen's analysis of what's going on. Personally, I don't really know, but having an endorsement from Todd Bentley and one of the Bethel Church people as well as someone in the midst of a revival casting a demon out of someone makes me super skeptical. Hopeful it is a true move of God that will result in a revival yes...but definitely cautiously skeptical. th-cam.com/video/kDN9GbvrkYY/w-d-xo.html
Much of what Todd Friel said wasn't really valid, I'm afraid. In terms of your comments: Those in the "revival business" will obviously use Asbury to promote their own endeavors. The university has no control over this. But many have noted that the events at Asbury are totally different as there are no rock bands, celebrities, manipulative preaching, etc etc. Todd Bentley is a shameless self-publicist and proven liar - he'll say whatever it takes to draw attention to himself and his fake revivals. Just ignore him. There are questions over the supposed exorcism video, and, of course, it could have been charismatic crazies from the outside, nothing to do with the university.
I'm afraid scornful sneering, guilt by association, "just asking" Todd Friel" is the last one to go to for a truthful view. Re Todd Bentley's endorsement' Remember a demon possessed girl endorsed Paul's ministry in Philippi, would you have been skeptical there?
Endorsements by Todd Bentley (false minister) or Bethel (false church) doesn't mean it is false. They can control what others think, even those who are false. As for the demon deliverance I don't know, but I will say there are demon possessed people for sure in our day but sadly almost none get delivered in our day.
I'm also skeptical but if casting out one demon is all people have against the supposed revival that's nothing, in fact it makes it more believable. God was the one casting that demon out through that woman and the rest of the crowd that followed her. We can't deny that. Satan can't cast out Satan. In my opinion, God is the one that starts these revival movements, and then the freaking false teachers like Copland and the other vampires try to leech off off it. For what I know, none of these hack fraud have been allowed to go to the revival, and that's good. Still, I would be cautious. I would not be surprised if a new wave of false teachers come out of this event, creating new unheard of doctrines and pushing for other known false doctrines that already exist. Just beware of wolves in sheep's clothing, as always.
I found out from Asbury College's website that they have had 8 "revivals" since 1905, 6 of them in February, 2 in March, the last one in 2006 or 2008, another big one in 1970 From each there's been interest in praying, singing, confessing sins and spreading the revival. Of course it was just an overview but I didn't notice any lasting impact in missions, church planting, theological education, or salvations. Shouldn't true revival be about the advancement of God's Kingdom? Aren't we to pray that God's Name be Hallowed? That His Kingdom come? Well, I read that school officials called off the revival. It's all so odd to me. May at least one person be or have been truly saved by the Grace of God through the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And may Almighty God - Father, Son and Spirit - be glorified.
Alice, the 1970 revival was apparently an important part of the Jesus Movement, which did result in many people becoming Christians. I don't have information about the others. The university hasn't called off the revival, but said it needs to change from a "come and see" to a "go and tell" approach. The numbers have simply become unsustainable. Asbury is in a tiny town called Wilmore, population 6,000, but I've read that 15,000 or more people have been coming each day. That's crazy. It's required multiple overflow halls in the university, seminary, and local churches. There's been traffic chaos, state troopers had to close roads to non-residents, and empty shelves in the small number of local shops. There's a limit to how much disruption a community can take.
@@MrZORROish She didn't notice because you can't have any of those things she listed overnight. These things take time. Wheat takes time to grow. You don't put a seed in and three days later have wheat. Jesus could have come to earth as a fully grown man but He was born as a baby, went through childhood, grew up and then as an adult began His ministry. Asbury think they can do things quicker than Jesus can which shows that this is not of God but a deception meant to glorify Asbury and not Jesus Christ
@@lastthingsministry Excuse me but you are talking rubbish. She referred to and criticised revivals going back over 100 years. She has had plenty of time to research but I am pretty certain she has just spouted a prejudiced view and not examined or seriously looked for any evidence. Likewise you show every sign of ignorance of Christian history and of protecting your own particular doctrinal prejudice - which I guess you took on trust from some pastor or teacher or even some well known preacher you have never met - or perhaps it is a denominational stance. However that would not matter if you had actually gone to check for yourself with an open heart. Many have done so and witness that the Lord has been present. But you haven't and your statement about glorifying Asbury is so wide of the mark it would be laughable if baseless slander of others were not a sin. I trust the judgement of those who were there - including people I trust.
"I didn't notice any lasting impact in missions, church planting, theological education, or salvations." That's your expertise, huh? Well, there were hundreds of salvations. Kids went out to give testimony to other churches. Kids flew in from overseas to give their testimony at Asbury. A minister from Nigeria came in to read the Word in his native language. Hi, don't panic, it has been confirmed that the "queer" students were those who experience same-sex temptations, but have chosen to live celibate lives. See (for example) Craig Keener's blog - the entry labelled "The outpouring at Asbury University: Responding to a critic". I won't link it as it could cause this comment to get blocked.
@@Ephesians5-11 yet they choose to identify as queer. You don't need to act on adultery in order to be guilty of the sin of adultery. Celibacy does not excuse unnatural sexual desires. Same sex attracted people need to crucify these unnatural desires, not hang onto them, excuse themselves, and claim a label. Same-sex attraction is often the end result of other wrong (sinful) ways of thinking. It is a complex sin and difficult to overcome, but Christ is loving and patient to those who come to him for healing. Unfortunately, we live in an age where homosexual spectrum sins are being shoved down our throats, and many weak churches and ministers are caving to the demands of the world.

The last couple of nationwide revivals in America occurred outside the churches. The last Asbury University revival in 1970 led to the Jesus Generation of the early 1970s and a fresh move of God created Promise Keepers in the 1990s. The established church overwhelmingly rejected both movements of God, insisting that church must be done as it was in the 1950s and anyone who doesn't look, worship or appear like "us" on Sunday morning couldn't really be a Christian and certainly doesn't belong in our church. The result was that the established church missed both works of God. It appears we're headed for the same disappointing result again ...

I agree with the be praying, and hopeful and waiting for fruit, but I don't think you all touched on a real factor: the idea of revivalism that is baked into the American church. There is a consumerist, mystical, emotional/experiential normalization of "God is moving" we have been taught. It's not that revivals are bad -- its that it points to Christians who are truly unsatisfied with the normal means of Grace God has gloriously and lovingly already provided.
There has never been any revival and there will never be any revival. Anyone that thinks that a revival is a possibility is one who has zero Biblical understanding.
My question would be, why did the original speaker at Asbury use NLP to get his message across? Did anybody read the transcript? He used NLP throughout. He talked about food and that food is a religious experience. He equated child molestation with love. He then announced that there was a hole in his trousers that everyone could see his buttocks through. He also mentioned a screw on the ground. Screw is a euphemism for sex. Why in a talk on Romans did he mention food, molestation, screw and his buttocks. Why would anyone think this would be something anyone should listen to?
@@texsis2112 the biblical gospel is .. God hates sin and has the entire world under His judgement. Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation, as granted entirely by God’s grace, by his blood he stones for all sin for whomever believes. Those who trust in Christ for salvation are Christ’s sheep and will be entered into the kingdom forever. Biblical revival is the spreading of that message by the preaching of the gospel according to what’s the biblical says. Romans 10 says who can believe if no one preaches. What I’m saying is that God always operates within the scope of Ha infallible and inerrant Word. The main job of the Holy Spirit is to convict people of sins and exult Christ. The goal of biblical revival is salvation. Absolutely none of that is happening at Asbury… days and days of emotional singing with worship as the key isn’t a biblical revival.
@@CowboyFantastic007 thanks for sharing brother, and I agree with you. I do wonder though, does biblical revival related exclusively to salvation for the unbeliever? I think a wider definition might include salvation for the unbeliever and a call to believers to awaken from apathy and lack of zeal. Just a thought. God bless.
I went to Asbury. People were repenting of sin and placing faith in Christ. They were presenting the Gospel and reading Scripture. And yes, they were singing praise to God.
Don’t forget the gnostic music of Hillsong and Bethel holding up much of the “worship” at Asbury. However, God can save His elect at and in spite of the circumstances. He has promised that you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart.
Playing that music was some of the proudest moments I've ever had in my life, being able to serve God's Church in 2011-2012. I gave my guitar for His service. Nothing can be greater. Do not criticize the young musicians for what they're doing for the Lord, just because you don't like the music. Go listen to something else. He loves it, and I play for Him, not you
I recommend the channel Forge and Anvil to get a view of this I think needs to be told. They interviewed a friend of theirs named Mike that goes to school there and has been working crowd control since the beginning. I’m reformed and a cessationist but I respect his points made even though I disagree with the Wesleyan model of their school and church aka women preaching. He’s pointed out this is a small area overwhelmed with thousands of people and some have come that they can’t control what they do charismatically speaking. Mike said the school is firm on LG*T being unbiblical and anyone claiming they are being accepted in they’re sexuality is a lone wolf and does not have the blessing of the school/church. He said the gospel is being preached regularly even though people claim they haven’t heard it. I have my opinions but eventually I believe the fruit will show🙏
You quoted a portion from first John about discerning spirits… But then you left out what John says about discerning spirit… You also said that the way to discern the spirit is “by the word of God, yet that is not what John says.
Naturally, or should I say supernaturally, God works through his ordinary means, and yet know where is revival defined as a mass or great amount of people being saved at once. What you are talking about is not necessarily revival. Revival simply means to renew a passion for something. Revival may not actually involve anyone coming to fang Christ. It could simply be believers, returning to their first love, or becoming fully passionate about Christ, and the spread of the gospel.
Its interesting how they thinking of modern "Reformed" men has changed from those of the past. The effects of the ecumenical spirit of Vatican council II that has invaded the protestant world can be seen in how these guys talk about how theological distinctions matter, but don't really matter. The reformere denounced Roman Catholicism as unbiblical and later the puritans denounced arminianism as unbiblical and a return back to Roman theology and therefore extremely dangerous (see the canons of Dort). These men say let's join hands as long as people say the love Jesus, it doesn't matter what we believe, the reformers and puritans would do that and paid the price of death because of it. The fact that they quote and promote J.I Packer who was a signer and promoter of the false ecumenism of Evengelicals and Catholics together shows the influence of false ecumenism that these guys seem to promote. I was waiting for them to include Catholic "who love Jesus" as brothers in the faith also, thankfully they didn't.
I think where there is repentance and love for the Lord, what’s to discuss? Getting a little tired of the intellect-only approach to faith…makes no sense.
Good afternoon Tom. Just listened to your podcast. One thing: why was there no biblical definition of revival offered? Of Repentance? Of what does obedience in Christ looks like? Of the ministry of the Holy Spirit? People need the Word of God my brother... give it to them. Lastly, you kept asking is this a genuine revival? And you kept saying, "Maybe... maybe not." Are you this uncertain my brother? Please do another podcast on g this and next time speak from the truth of God's Word on how to ""test the spirits" "test everything, click g to what is good, abhor evil." And most definitely define biblically the terms! Revival: repentance from sin; obedience to God.
Obedience to God is to be believe unto salvation and then grow up in the Word. No one can be saved without the Gospel being preached of Christ Crucified. After Salvation we must grow up in the milk of the Word and then on to solid food. We then must pass tests and grow spiritually until the point that we have matured unto ministry and make Godly use of the spiritual gifts we have been given.

James omits the gospel entirely. We should ask seriously what James had to say most necessarily to the scattered abroad. The gospel was what they most needed. True religion, yes, but what is the only thing that this true religion must be founded on? The death and resurrection of Jesus. So, why does James omit this?
Asbury preached 1 John 1:9 is the gospel. This text of 1 John 1:9 was written to believers to confess your sins to God and he will forgive you. Continual confession and turning of sin for the saved. The gospel is the work of Jesus on the cross. The death and resurrection of Jesus to deliver us of sin. We place our faith in Jesus and we become born again. Christ comes to live in us and now we are free from sin and a slave to righteousness. 1 John 1:9 is great but it is more to do with sanctification than salvation. I am deeply concerned about how most evangelicals today do not even know what the gospel is. Even Southern Baptist?!!🙄🙄 We have totally failed to preach a true gospel. Unbelievable.
The way so many evangelicals are reacting to this event/happening at Asbury reminds me of the way so many Catholics react to the various apparitions of Mary that occur periodically around the world.

Humble, honest, sincere, clear and concise…most importantly, biblical counsel (1 John 4). Thank you, brothers.
These two have nothing to do with the Bibles Christianity. The revival is as fake as are these two. Repent!
Great thoughts gentlemen.
Can you list any false doctrines that were taught at the Asbury Revival ?
On twitter and Instagram people are affirming lgbt "preachers" during this revival.
"you didn't notice"? maybe look a little harder....
This was one of the mightiest moves of God in the last century that we've ever seen. This is nothing but a mill for pessimism and speculation
This was really good. Thank you. I have been really upset to see many from the reform branch of the faith completely reject this meeting and even spread rumors with no evidence. Great discussion here.

No. I did however see many give their lives to Christ through confession, repentance and faith in His work on the cross alone. It is authentic and God's Spirit is present in the revival, movement, whatever you want to label it.
There will always be tares amongst wheat, goats amongst sheep (Aka Judas). Please, please, please do not redefine the word discernment to mean pessimistic. 'God in a box' is Emergent Church talk. God does have boundaries (Only come to the father through the son. Anyone who climbs over the wall and doesn't go through the gate is a thief. Jesus is the gate. We have to walk the narrow path)

Dean Odle Ministries has a good video about Asbury on his website
I guess I missed this video of what, 2 months ago now though you-tube no longer seems to post the exact dates anymore. What bothers me about people (I am using that term, people loosely) like these two is, as human beings who have been gifted by God with a BRAIN, so why don't they USE IT. I would half expect, before sounding off, they would do a little research---I mean there are alot of videos out there of not only ordinary people but some ministers who ACTUALLY WENT TO ASBURY to experience what was going on there and here they are just sounding off as what?? I don't know and after 5:34 I quit. What did the young guy on the right say, "as I have heard", REALLY!! Ridiculous!!

Interesting thoughts

Jesus said you’d recognize them by their fruit…………… aka no biblical gospel no biblical revival
What is meaning of 'no biblical gospel, no biblical revival? This is second time I've seen it said. Thnx
I went to Asbury. People were repenting of sin and placing faith in Christ. They were presenting the Gospel and reading Scripture. And yes, they were singing praise to God.
Don’t forget the gnostic music of Hillsong and Bethel holding up much of the “worship” at Asbury. However, God can save His elect at and in spite of the circumstances. He has promised that you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart.
people just singing what they know.
One of the best takes on this subject I've seen so far. Thank you for your wisdom and charity brothers.
And you kept saying, "Maybe... maybe not."
Are you this uncertain my brother?
I don't agree that Jonathan Edwards has written and contributed more to the understanding of revival. I would argue J. Edwin Orr has done more.
I’m a little disappointed that you mentioned that “we don’t want to put God in a box”
God has put himself in a box, and that box is His Word.

James omits the gospel entirely. We should ask seriously what James had to say most necessarily to the scattered abroad. The gospel was what they most needed.
