If you wanna try a lighter "spoon" I would recommend a 1oz pline Lazer minnow and cast it out on 10-15lb mono. As you are strait winding it you will know you are doing it right when you see the jig doing a side to side kick as it comes back to you.

Any 7 foot plus rod with 40- 60 lb braid that's a medium action will through a spoon just fine... You don't need the xxl spoon thrower deluxe rod
