There I am @4:40 😂 damn it was a windy ass day too! That was my first time fishin in Corpus (from Houston) and I caught an 18" Snook like 15 minutes before you showed up 😅 🤘

Yeah that guy gobbled up a piece of cut mullet. Interestingly, last year a lot of big speckled trout were caught on cut bait at the jetties.

Valuable lesson. Not to rub salt in the wound, but since you essentially depend on this for a living, and since size, strength and weight of saltwater fish varies so greatly, best practice is to re-spool with fresh line as often as possible. A full spool at that!

Bruv we have all lost a biggun like that. Either we lose patienc,the rell isnt strong enough, the line snaps or runs out or our rod snaps. Its not funny at the time but we can laugh later with a story to tell. What do you think it was?

Those 6" mullet would be great live bait. A nice redfish or even a big flounder has no problem eating bait that size.
I was out there today at the Channel, it was tough. But Coop, at Nueces River that small fishing area I was catching good finger mullet but a lot of juvenile ladyfish , 4-6 inches by net. I caught about a dozen to save for later trip.

Dannngg bro I went offshore last month and lost two giant monsters at the rigs on live finger mullet till this day I’m devastated hate losing monsters I’d kill to just see what it was 😂😂 but that’s what makes us keep going out there P.S I know it’s pointless for you to come down to south padre island because of how good the fishing already is in corpus area but it be fun seeing you at our beaches and bay
I feel you like I was in my brothers bay boat with the talon down and I hooked a huge red on my medium light rod with a 2500 vanford I made him drag the boat around only way I caught him 😂😂 did the same thing in my little 10ft Jon boat had to chase him with a 30lb thrust trolling motor
My brother almost got spooled by a big jack too. But it did mess up his baitcaster. The fight took 20 minutes and about 5-6 loops around the boat 😂

What ever you had, "Jack"'that broke off happened to me in Port O'Connor. Instead of breaking line or straightening simple quick clip it broke a #2 circle hook.
Don’t discount rigging those big mullet live on a free-line or bottom rig. Free-line in the Summer surf for big trout, or bottom rig in a channel for big drum.

For a 2500 it had to bigger than 30 in red I caught the red run one day only had my trout rod an I was still getting them in that had to be jack or something els really big

that scares me i use a 8wt at the jetties and i havent hooked on a jack yet with it cause they never been around when i go i am scared i will lose my fly line after watching that

Definitely a gulf trout, they get as big as speckled trout. Sand trout are the smaller trout species

Not heavier line, he needed a larger spool and heavier drag. Heavier line would have spooled him quicker.
Bro why wouldn't you fish those 6" Mullets live???? We spank the Reds and Jacks on them jokers and the bites are so sick freelined, must have been a Jack or a Perm???
It's hard to keep them alive when it's so hot outside.
@TheCoon1975 super hard I have one of those coolers with a circulation pump and I put a bag of ice off in it and because Mullet can live in fresh and salt they do ok but it kills Pilchards and Threadfin
I use a frozen 16-20 oz water bottle to help keep the bait bucket cooler. ✌️
