Ben Lea Penn fierce 2 is a good bang for the buck, I use for tarpon and bull reds and it's a 2500 class, holds right at 300yrds 30lb braid, 17lbs max drag and 2 year warranty from Wal-Mart, saltigas are good, von stall are amazing, it's just kind of a pick and choose, we can make suggestions all day but ultimately it depends of your particular set up and targeted species, all around good reel is a diawa BG, 2500 and 3500 are good intermediate sizes and they work well for all set ups, super smooth drag and good line capacity, if Jetty fishing i would take a 4500 and a 3500 to cover all grounds

I was at the coast/Port Aransas for eights days. I must have talked to over 40 people. One got a Mangrove snapper, and another man got a small trout. Otherwise, nothing! Too hot and very windy!

Try using diamond jigs 2.5/3oz, i know they work in florida waters, have not tried them here though(galveston/jetties)
