      People are treating this like a popularity contest - but it is far more serious. Trump is planning to dismantle many of our basic government protections that we have relied on for over 200 years. Please read the GOP 2025 Platform which is shorthand for Project 2025. The shorthand version is vague enough so that it may not seem drastic at first. But try to think about the ramifications of each section. I will give one random example of Trump's radical plan, and hopefully people can look more critically. Initially, some people may be enthusiastic about encouraging prayer & Bible study in public school. It would be natural to think that your own particular religious persuasion would be the one taught. But even if you happen to be Christian there is a very large range of practices. Let's say you are Catholic, do you want your child speaking in tongues, or thinking the body & blood are wafers & grape juice? Baptist, do you want your child sprinkled with holy water? Perhaps you are Methodist and your child experiences a high fever while attending a Christian Science school so they call someone to pray while the fever progresses to meningitis risking your child's life. We need to think long and hard before we dismantle 200 years of settled precedent. Tossing out the separation of church & state is not even the most radical or dangerous part of the plan; but it is wildly inappropriate in our nation where most of us immigrated here (at some point) holding a wide range of religious beliefs. Many even came to the US specifically to flee religious persecution as our founders did! In spite of any differences we may have, I think it is pretty important to realize how privileged we are to be United States citizens. We have tremendous opportunities, freedoms, protections, and advantages in the US, often not available in many other countries. We have a lot to lose.

      Those are your religious beliefs. And you are welcome to them. It this is not a Theocracy. The constitution guarantees freedom of or FROM religion. Do you know what that means? You cannot impose your personal religious beliefs on the rest of society.

    • @benjiblas708
      @benjiblas708 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@steveb7429 He asked for a Bible verse, so I gave one 🤷‍♂️. Laws are created by the people to uphold a general standing sense of morality. Everybody’s sense of morality is determined individually, and we often disagree on what is and isn’t morally correct.
      Whether we like it or not, personal religion is most often the major determinant of somebody’s moral compass. I think “religion” is whatever an individual believes. If you believe there is a God, you act and believe on it. If you are an atheist, you act and believe in accordance to that. They’re both lifestyles determined by a belief and faith in something.
      That’s why I don’t think that somebody can discredit somebody’s individual perspective simply because it’s religiously founded. If we were a theocracy, we would determine all of our laws by one particular without the freedom of discussion and voting. But we don’t, and we have the privilege of sharing different perspectives and working together for a solution. I don’t disregard anybody else’s opinion just because I don’t inherently agree with it. I believe there is room for everybody to use their heads and be considerate of every person’s circumstances and unique perspectives.

      I am not an advocate of abortion, nor abortion pills, and ask yourself: 'did my mom abort me?' You were granted the 'right to life' , grant your sons & daughters the 'right to life' . I SUPPORT FATHERS the RIGHT to their UNBORN SONS & DAUGHTERS, each child has 2 parents.
      Freedom of speech & press USA copyrighted.
      I hear they are coming out w/ a new abortion pill that not only kills just the unborn baby but also the ---------- . the 2 for 1 pill .

      @@michellelittle7452 What does this question have to do with the topic at hand? My comment pointed out that the OP’s claim contradicts itself: you can’t say “100% government should not be involved” and also say that “it should be a state level of problem” because the “state level” is just another level of government. The claim is logically incoherent on its face. If what the OP really meant to say was “certain issues should be handled by state governments, while others are handled by the federal government,” that’s fine, but it’s a totally banal point: there are obviously tons of issues that are primarily handled by state governments. So the OP hasn’t said anything much here: they’ve just made an incoherent statement that, if interpreted generously, says almost nothing. If OP wanted to make the argument that the issue of abortion should only be handled by state governments, that’s a defensible position, but he/she needs to make an actual argument to support it.

    We The People are a "Constitutional Republic "... Not a Democracy!!!

    • @davidhart2836
      @davidhart2836 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A constitutional republic is one form of democratic government, among many. The American founders were highly critical of what they called "democracy," but the meaning of that word was very different in the 18th century. Remember, prior to 1776, no large nation had ever adopted a modern form of government that derived political power from the people. At that time, "democracy" referred to the form of government we now call "direct democracy," which was the type of democratic government used in the ancient Athenian and Roman republics (and notice that even those early democracies were also republics!). Under direct democracy, all citizens (i.e., property-owning free men) were expected to directly participate in governance by attending assemblies and voting on various proposals. By contrast, in representative democracies (like the U.S. government), citizens vote for representatives, who, in turn, represent the views and interests of their constituencies and do the day-to-day work of decision making. Liberal representative democracies (like the U.S. government) further differ from direct democracy by adding strong legal protections for individual rights, preventing the kind of "mob rule" that direct democracy enables.
      Now that you have had a primer in the history of democratic governance, you can stop repeating this obnoxious and factually wrong talking point. I don't know why conservatives love repeating this line so much, but it makes them sound ignorant of intro-level political science terminology.
