  • Some see it as essential to maintaining stability in a rapidly changing world; while others view it as a senseless anchor, holding back the tide of progression. Which is it? Is tradition important?

It depends on the tradition. Tradition in the past included the subjugation of women, surely that is not a good thing! Judge a tradition on whether it is moral and has actual value for people today.

No one’s saying women should be subjected to subjugation. Anyone who supports that is an idiot. What traditionalists are saying is basically on the basis of religion and family values that go back a century or so.

I think religion should be digit along with punishment and force’s marriage, but I think he should loyal and faithful in our marriage, have respect and pride for our reputation and country, raise children properly and have roles in a marriage. It’s simple biology that even kids understand, look at a toddler who understands what a mummy and a daddy is. No more egotism or selfish lust. No ones happy anymore because there’s no real connections being made. Children need to be educated from a young age to convert this society into a better functioning one.

@@stephenbryant5251 Yes. To understand what the dynamic between men and women means, we need to temporarily separate our 'feelings' about what is moral and what isn't. The traditional nuclear family always worked because everyone in the family used to understand their role. The father was the provider, the mother was the caretaker, and both would protect the kids who would be brought up with Christian values. Now, that delineation has become blurred, and society has moved so far in the opposite direction (in the name of progress) that these traditions, that were inherently stable because we knew they worked, are looked down upon as anachronistic, or antiquated. In reality tradition is the fabric that keeps us mortal beings from making rash decisions. When you do away with tradition, you do away with grace, innocence, chastity, humility, and purpose, and instead you get pride, arrogance, rootlessness, degeneracy and futility. And this is where we are today.

@Walter McClain modern liberal ideology has infected your mind. It is a recent phenomena that just doesn't work long term. The man loses his agency as a father, essentially becoming a lesser (less masculine) version of himself and the mother starts to become encumbered by her work in the public sector and can't provide for the children. The children therefore suffer when they should be thriving. There's little reason to be calling a 2000+ year tradition "dumb", although it seems most modernists seem to have that same kind of contempt for tradition and its many merits, no matter the subject.

Traditions are important to maintain social stability and instill sense of belonging. The problem is that those traditions are sometimes outdated and harm progress. The real goal should be to reavaluate what is worth keeping and what is worth changing, not blindly devoting oneself to something said centuries ago.

There is a difference between tradition and moral values. E.g. the bible teaches good moral values but is the tradition of going to church every Sunday necessary to teach those values?

Traditions is a get toghter activity but it also comes from a set of fully functioning framework for what is correct around others.
One tradition say be very enthusiastic and use loud voice to show your appreciation to others while another tradition say dont put yourself right in peoples space and make loud noise.
It has to be applied accordingly to the area if in the open.

I don't care about tradition, nationality or culture- it is what it is and if it changes it will be what it will be. Traditional values do lead to exclusivity, stupid things like having a monarchy here in the UK, modern family values where wealth is hoarded through inheritance and the right of owners to speculate and increase how much they own on the backs of those who actually do everything being the norm. It prevents progress,-cultures, traditions and languages need to mix and change, frankly I do not even care if the English language were to die out or become unrecognizable in time, a language is only useful to me in so much as I can use it to communicate, if a different language becomes dominant after I die, who cares? We need to fight much of the status-quo- now more than ever!

Traditions are good for society. That is the reason why most traditions are kept in most parts of the world and throughout history. The reason why traditions have remained there for a long time is because those practices have succeeded and help society function properly. Traditions are what makes cultures flourish

I agree, America should never have been a democracy but stayed under British rule. Even the Brits messed up by limiting the Kings power, the feudal system should never have been abolished. Its also very weird to me why people dont wear the same clothes as in the middle ages, what was wrong with those? Scratch all that, we used to be pagans why did we leave that great tradition and become Christians it just does not make sense, we should never change society look at all bad things that come out of it.

So what? If you take out Christianity and the things it brought to the West, there wouldn't be any "Western Tradition/Culture"
From art to architecture, Christianity affected the West and played the most important role.
Do not underestimate the middle east, it literally was the cradle of civilisations until the westerners got into those lands and destroyed the beauties there!
Everything was created in the East, but it was the West who took and perfected it.
