I had a copy of Outpost 31, but ended up returning it because it was $150 and I was convinced it would drop back below $80. Sad to find out later it was all sold out and unless I paid $250+ on eBay I was SOL. Who Goes There didn't look too have the same dark appeal, so I settled for Dead of Winter to get that atmosphere in a game. Glad to see this one coming to Kickstarter, I'll keep my eye on it. Thanks for watching and posting. That is one of the down sides to board games. They are printed in small batches and there are so many new ones all the time old games go out of print so quick it is always a risk passing on something. This one did very well on Kickstarter and will have late pledges soon so if you liked it I would back it through that once it is up.
Nick gave himself away as soon as he was leader (bad card decisions, stopping drawing cards too early for a bogus reason, and constant and poor accusations) 😄 - but great to see everyone and having fun, and another great instructional vid Lance.
41:20 You missed that you also get to add a fuel tank to the generator (or if it wouldn't be gone for good... to the boiler), so no matter the roll of that weather die, there is always that guaranteed benefit (well, if you get to actually do the use action of course).
Yeah that's an admittedly strange benefit because it doesn't seem related to the weather station (so it's easy to forget), but when I tried it on TTS I was prioritising the weather station for this reason.

The Weather and Boiler/Generator are working together in a sense, so it does make sense that once you checked the Weather Forecast (you rolled/set the die), you might have a better understanding of if Boiler or Generator are more desperate to get some fuel and add one accordingly. In the game and considering the far distance of Fuel tank warehouse to the Weather Station, I agree, isn't as obvious at first. Beside that, I also would agree that unless there is something that needs to get repaired, or the worry of dogs/Aliens presence, the Weather Station might be the better place to go to in general.

One thing I did notice that is different in the current game rules is that you now only take 2 cards from the warehouse and choose 1 and put the other card back (rather than pick 3 cards and keep 2).
You actually made a mistake at 32:54 when you tested Nick using Test A (the blood bag), at least if that rule has been the same when you played the game: Only the player highest on the suspicion track may be tested, so you could only have have tested Tam (the yellow player). Only using the Wire and Flamethrower combined (Test B) any player can be tested, regardless of their position on the suspicion track.

But the other player is a not exposed alien, so he must tell the other players, that he is not killed because he is not human and expose himself. How the game rules deal with that?
"Who Goes There?" is a better "The Thing" game than this game or the previous one from Mondo. The only plus this game has going for it is its recognizable box art from the movie. Good video though!!

In 16:20 you say there is a misprint on the board and that you have to draw 3 Item cards and keep 2, where on my board and rules it says you have to draw 2 cards and keep 1. What's the correct move? I'm confused. Were you confused with Macready's (one of the characters) ability to draw 3 cards from the Weapons deck and keep 1?

That is the only one I have not played, it looked cool. This one was going to be one I backed even if I didn't have a chance to play just for the minis along. The Thing is still one of my favorite movies.
Why did yellow during the boarding step kept saying it wouldn't matter, he will win anyways? I mean, if he would have been left behind when he is human, then the Alien team would have won. The humans need to get out all living humans to win.

What was the total playtime for your 6 player group? I know it advertised 1-2 hours, but as you add more players games like this can lengthen. I know Nemesis usually takes 3-4 hours with 5 players for my group, despite the 90-120 minute claimed time
I think the first time we played to get the game down for the filming it took about 3 and a half hours. The filming took around 2 hours. On average we were completing full rounds in 20 to 30 minutes.
So what is the purpose and function of the alien miniatures/standees? It looks as if the exposed alien is represented by just the tokens and the location cards

That is a great question. I have had some great games of Who Goes There so it holds a special place in my collection. I feel there are enough differences to say that they play very differently. For example Who Goes There has item crafting, round events, and each character has their own board, custom deck of cards and unlocks new abilities through out the game. Where The Thing has more crisis's to manage at once, there is attacks between the thing and players more often, and there is more resource management. I know this is not a straight forward answer. I am bias towards Who Goes There because of my experiences with it and the wonderful memories of some amazing games, but I am going to be adding The Thing to my collection and with the ability to play small player count games and solo games plus the differences I mentioned above I am really looking forward to playing it again and I know everyone that played in the video had a great time as well. Both games are solid games and provide a great experience. I hope this helps.

The Thing - The Boardgame is not yet released and Who Goes There 2nd Edition should fix many issues of the first edition (no instant death etc.). The biggest critic I have heard about WGT is The Thing has no real reason not to play as a normal human and can win easily just playing as a good guy.

You need to collect enough Helicopter points (maps and fuel) in order to be wanted in the helicopter as the others wouldn't make it without you. All the support characters who are useless in searhing for the helicopter points are likely to be left behind in the end.

It seems to be a nice game. I've read on kickstarter that it is for 1-8 players. I can't imagine it as solo or in two players because of missing suspicion. Have you tried? Thanks
Thanks for watching, I have not, but saw that during the kickstarter and was very interested in seeing how that will work. Once the game comes in I will be doing a solo rules and play through on it as well as a full teaching video for the main game.

I am sorry you fill this way and I try to make it very clear in my videos, Thumbnails, and descriptions what each video is about. I have not gotten my copy of the game yet and if I had done a teaching video on this for the kickstarter it would not be accurate at this point as some of the rules were adjusted after the campaign was over.
I gave up on what is probably your great explanation of the game after about 10 minutes of the unbearably. annoying "amusing commentary" by your fellow-players.
I'm probably at the same point as you (9m45s) 😄 ... amusingly one guy has said 'this is going to be a long game' as I was thinking 'this is going to be a long, and painful, video' ... but I'm going to persevere as Lance's videos are normally pretty good for learning

That is a great question. I have had some great games of Who Goes There so it holds a special place in my collection. I feel there are enough differences to say that they play very differently.
