Mid-west rust belt guy here, we always spray penetrating oil( any brand) first, or exhaust bolts, any fasteners, all fasteners, then when doesn’t work we use heat. Anything over five years old! I am sure many more jeeps have been lost to rust in the Midwest than to combat overseas!
Turning out great. For last minute paint, heat the metal good and warm. Paint it. It will dry while cooling. Within a short time it will be cool enough to mount. Not the best for hard wear areas but not bad.
I’m glad to see even a master questioning his own decision as he makes them. JB weird for the shroud works great. I’ve done the same in the past. Stops all the vibration of the joint. Also don’t do steel between the radiator and the grill. If needed just wedge in some compression foam to seal it up.
I was thinking while you were cleaning up the solder that I’d use JB Weld for those spots on the good radiator. Come to find out a minute later, you were thinking the same thing. Great minds…
Awesome Fred! I love when you work on those old flat fenders. When I get one, it's probably going to be in the shape yours is in. I have been following along with what you are doing so I can figure out how to get one going myself.

I love projects with the old stuff. Far more difficult than going all new. The flat fender Jeep stuff is GOLD. Keep up the good work.

Good safety precautions by still wearing your welding helmet while applying JB weld. 😂
