Steam locomotives are bad polluters, but most of what you can see in the smoke are the particulates which fall to the ground rapidly. The real damage is done by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. These are given out in just as large a quantity by road vehicles, aircraft, ships and power stations. There are only a tiny number of steam locos left working and they are beautiful and fascinating machines. They are a valuable relic from our industrial past and need to be saved from destruction. The pollution from these few steam locos is TINY compared to the pollution from the billions of road vehicles, aircraft and ships in the world. Getting rid of just a handful of steam locomotives will make no difference to the world but getting rid of the pollution from road vehicles would probably sort the problem in one move.

How much smoke it releasing
If you’d like to save our Earth from disaster, please get rid of your car or motor bike, don’t buy anything that has been delivered by air, sea or lorry, switch off your electricity at home, never go on holiday by aircraft or car. Not easy, is it?

Beautiful isn't it? - Andy
Why that guys sitting in front of loco
The guy with the white shirt is the "boss" of the line. They're on the front of the loco to look out for any problems. I think there's no shortage of workers in India!!
Andy
They don't have money for ticket
No, their primary duty is to pour sand on the lines to creat more traction during wheel slipping

@@alokechakraborty935 They probably also can do that but during our ride that was not done by either man on the front. The man in the white shirt is the boss of the railway and he was making sure that everything ran well for us.

Very good.

It's an amazing little railway ..... Andy
now it is beautiful....if railway dept control polution from this... it looks more beautiful
Yes if they use use diesel instead of coal
Video yang sangat bagus 👍👍👍❤️
Thank you - Andy
Train is smoking very high. Government can improve it, as it is a hill destination and it is a very sensitive area on the perspective of nature. So it seems government has left the Darjeeling railway system as it was in the days of British. So sad

I recommend that you go there very soon because the line may not be able to operate for much longer. Most trains are diesel powered but steam trains can still operate if paid for ...... Andy

This line is a major tourist attraction for the Darjeeling area and brings in valuable foreign money. However, I agree that steam locomotives are bad polluters. Most of what you can see in the smoke, though, are the particulates which fall to the ground rapidly. The real damage is done by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. These are given out in just as large a quantity by road vehicles, aircraft, ships and power stations. Is this still traveling?
Yes. The railway still operates but is struggling for money to keep going. It uses diesel locos for most services ...... Andy

The emissions are similar to a diesel engine but have more particulates which fall to the ground quickly ....... Andy

There is no signalling on the line and it crosses roads often. They are there to warn of any danger ..... Andy
Nice vide5
Thank you. Andy

So Darjeeling is an ultimate destination of
But air pollution is huge
Darjeeling is a must see. The pollution from these little locos is nothing compared to that from the billions of road vehicles around. Any large city in the world is far far worse than these beautiful hills.
Andy
@Daniel Mathai Agreed !! Andy
No man. There is lots of jungles and green environment that's why there is no pollution.
@@sunilthapa7815 There are also diesel buses and trucks working hard all day long going up and down the road which follows the railway up into the hills. I can tell you from personal experience that the fumes from these are awful and polluting, even though they're not quite as visible as the smoke from the steam locos. You must remember that one train replaces several buses.
Andy
Lol no pollution there buddy
Beautiful nice
It's one of the greatest rail journeys on Earth .... Andy
how polluting; they should replace the engine with electric one!

Why those two spidermen?
They are supposed to be there to look out for any obstructions on the line. The guy in the white shirt is the boss of the line - there to make sure everything ran well for us!
