Minister AV gave an excellent response to Raghuram Rajan's comment on semiconductors which Rajan made at a separate interview that Rahul had. Raghuram is losing his credibility by immersing himself more and more into the propagandist politics of the indian Congress Party. Raghuram who now teaches in Chicago is a Western Stooge who will work against India's interests if it helps him to promote his selfish ambitions.

Indian Railways should build ongoing 3rd, 4th lines for higher speeds and then use existing tracks to run Freight and passenger trains up to 110-130kmph aka build new tracks for semi high speed trains instead of DFC for freight tains on the high density routes.
New tracks with less curves, modern signalling, 40-50km average station spacing,160-240kmph operating speeds will results
-> 120-150kmph average speed for express trains and 160-210kmph for Super Fast trains.
After shifting the express and super fast trains on to the new lines, the existing tracks can be used for both freight and medium distance local passenger train operations.
freight movement doesn't require speed like 160kmph, rather it needs average speed around 80-120kmph. With the supply chain optimization Indian Railway can achieve reliability. This will be an optimal solution.

In the whole world, which big countries run without a manufacturing strong base. this is the main reason India still consider a poor nation or still relatively poor. without a manufacturing base, any country can arm-twist you and you will never reach a level with some respectable power. RR is pretending a lack of basic sense on how businesses are set up and run. Semiconductor and Electronics industry is a not simple thing to set up and if a company would do so only if they see a significantly long term investment strategy otherwise it does not make sense with or without PLI. PLI will only make it attractive for them to do so

Not necessary. Once the ecosystem is fully up in India, chance for them to leave become less mainly because we have other advantages. Another answer is "When people marry economics with politics, their views change" that the minister already said.

I guess you dunno economics and geopolitics. India is very cost effective and very economical . So many software companies are set up here , it's because it's 1/4 th of the cost in us. India is economical for them even without government bearing 50% costs .so once ecosystem is set up ,it will be very good industry. Apart from this , looking from geopolitical view ,with our big neighbour eyeing Taiwan , which has the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer , everyone wants to distribute the supply chain. India would be the most attractive destination. Apart from this , we can Carter to local demand then export chips . Hope it answers your question Akashji.
