      It's built in to the solenoid.

    Did you ever end up making an assembaly video?

    Good morning, I love the video, do you know why an engine is burning oil ?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!, Most of the times it's the piston rings that get clogged with carbon due to lack of maintenance like oil changes.

      @@motorcarnut do you think I can add something in the engine or need to change the piston rings ? And once again thank you

      @lamasa09mm Sure no problem. I usually don’t recommend aftermarket products but you can try products like NO SMOKE oil treatment and see if that helps.

      Mr Subaru says the PCV valve really needs to be changed regularly - it's a $15 part, change every 35,000 miles. Worth doing that along with regular oil changes to keep the engine happy.

      @douglasphillips1203 Yep, good advice

    Hello! Great job and very informative. What are the implications if I removed the flywheel shield without making a mark first?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!
      Don’t know what you mean by flywheel shield? The flywheel its self has offset bolt holes so only goes on one way. Are you talking about the steel spacer in between the engine and transmission?

      @idcpr 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@motorcarnut Thanks; yes Im referring to the mark you made before removing it.

      Oh, No I did that because I have 5 vw's in the shop and don't want to mix up parts. But like I said before, the flywheel only goes on one way so you're fine not marking it. Sorry for the confusion.

    Good video! Loved it was there anything special about pulling the cam pasers off? Also does the engine need to be at TDC when taking chains off ?

    • @motorcarnut
      @motorcarnut  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you,
      No specific tools no, and it’s always a good idea to set TDC before taking off chains but not necessary.

    Is the oil screen necessary?

    What do you think is causing this smoke on my 2015 2.5 Outback? th-cam.com/video/hTQQacA83rg/w-d-xo.html
    I took intake plenum off etc to replace the PCV union, as well as some coolant hoses and other things related to coolant. Put everything back together. Engine fired up fine, but after about 2 min, I start to get this smoke that seems to be eminating from front, lower, drivers side. I dont have any check engine lights when it happens. Looking at my coolant and oil temp but are below or in low 100's. I turn it off soon after I see the smoke because I dont know if its gonna start a fire or something.
    With all that said, when I was tearing stuff apart I saw a mouse had recently made a home in my engine. While I had the PCV valve off overnight, I was worried mouse would go into engine so I stuffed paper shop towels into the 2 holes. When I came back in morning, one of the towels was chewed some, the other was completely gone. I looked down in the hole (I believe it was the hole of the PCV union thats on the drivers side. I didnt see any towel or anything down there.
    If you hear my wife in the video she says it smells like burning shop towels but then when he lit a towel on fire, the smell wasnt the same so I dunno....

      To me that seems like a coolant leaking on the exhaust. Maybe on the the hoses is loose? Also there is a coolant pipe that runs alone the side of the cylinder head thats known to get rusty and spring a leak.
