Chris Hedges: Israel's endgame in Palestine is genocide | The Marc Steiner Show

  • One month since the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on Oct. 7, the Israeli military has slaughtered more than 10,000 Palestinians, including over 4,000 children. International condemnation is growing, with multiple governments withdrawing their ambassadors from Israel and organizations around the world calling for Israel's leaders to be prosecuted for war crimes. In an Oct. 28 resignation letter, Craig Mokhiber, former Director of the New York Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, noted that there is "no room for doubt or debate" that the Israeli government is intentionally perpetuating a genocide of the Palestinian people with the support of the US, EU, and other international actors. Drawing on his decades of experience as a war correspondent and years living in and reporting on Gaza, Chris Hedges joins The Marc Steiner Show to discuss Israel's endgame: the full elimination and depopulation of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and eventually the West Bank.

Every child in Gaza, assuming they live, will grow into a young adult who will either join or support Hamas. And 20 years from now Israeli's will wonder where all their anger and hate comes from.

That would have already happened then. It's been a concentration camp of children and young adults who lost most of their family and several homes, have been starved, deprived healthcare, subjected to some of the worst poverty imaginable, and terrorized for their entire life. They are stuck with Hamas. There is no formal opposition. Israel saw to that.

@@Joe-no7gs of course. But from what I’ve heard from them - their accounts- they are relatively well cared for. Well, except for the bombing that doesn’t discriminate between terrorists, and the Israeli hostages and Palestinian children and women. I’m concerned for the hostages because they have bombs being thrown on them (potentially). Hopefully not. I care about all human life. In particular the suffering of children and babies. What happened on Oct 7 was an atrocity. For sure. But that is now in the past. The bombing of 12000+ (75% women and children) is ongoing (minus temp halt). Must stop. Otherwise, the people around the world that aren’t knowledgeable enough to distinguish between Israel’s Likud gov and the Jewish people at large WILL judge this ongoing massacre in a very bad way. How can you not when so much suffering has been caused by Bibi and gangs?? All humans are humans. They all suffer the same. I am a human being. I am uneasy and suffer when I know thousands of children are in pain and loosing their lives. What are you?
“Human beings are members of a whole…in creation of once essence and soul. If one member of afflicted with pain, others uneasy shall remain. If you have no sympathy for human pain, the name of human you cannot retain” Saadi 13th century Persian poet.

The Palestinians are losers of war and now they fight a lost war since 1948. The Palestinians also lose more land as they fight and lose lost wars. Israel has dropped a number of bombs equal to 2 nuclear bombs on Gaza in 3 weeks.... and yet the total casualty rate (that includes civilians and Hamas) is 9,000+ according to the Palestinians... If Israel were to actually throw 2 nuclear bombs, that number would have been already in the 100,000's.
I am not justifying the deaths of innocents, I am just proving how the statement that "Israel is genociding Palestinians" is absolutely false.
Israel tries to be as precise as possible, but in urban warfare (especially in a scenario in which the enemy force intentionally hides behind civilians), no wonder that there are innocents lost.

In 1948 Israel's Government offered all Muslim son's of Ishmael inhabitants of Israel to remain in their homes, have seats in the Knesset, if only they would acknowledge Israel as a legitimate nation and the Jews right to exist and dwell there? Most refused went to Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and tried to exterminate Israel and Israelis from the face of the Earth in 1948. Several times since 1948 has Israel offered the self proclaimed "Palestinians" their own State consisting of the Gaza Strip and West Bank, every time the Philistine Palestinians have refused.
How many times have Sons of Ishmael, Muslims, Arabs, or Philistines chanted "death to Israel", or called for Israel to be destroyed and wiped from the face of the Earth? Answer; many, many times.
How many times have Philistines/"Palestinians", Hittite/Turks, Arabian/Saudi Arabians, Assyrian/Syrians, Phoenician/Lebanese, Ammonite-Moabite/Jordanians, Egyptians, Persians/Iranians, Babylonians/Iraqis tried in Wars to exterminate Jews and Israel from the face of the Earth? Since 1948? Answer; 4.
      1948 Arab-Israeli War
      1956 Arab-Israeli War ll
      1967 Six-Day War
      1973 Yom-Kippur War
How many times has the Philistines fired rockets into Israel, bombed Israelis, suicide bombed Israelis, mass shot Israelis, kidnapped and executed Israelis, assassinated Israelis? Answer; thousands upon thousands of times since 1948, not including the millions dead in the Holocaust, as there were many Philistine/Iraqi/Iranian/Arabian/Lebanese/Assyrian/Jordanian/Egyptian/Muslims who were allies of National Socialist Germany, also not including hundreds of times in antiquity that Philistine/"Palestinians", Babylonian/Iraqis, Persian/Iranians, Phoenician/Lebanese, Assyrian/Syrians, Arabian/Saudi Arabians, Hittite/Turks, Ammonite-Moabite/Jordanians, Greeks, Holy Roman Catholics, have slaughtered millions of Jews and repeatedly removed the Jews from their ancient homeland. Not to mention the U.N. in peacetime gave Israel to the Jews, there was no talk then of giving "Palestinians" their own homeland State, because there were NO "Palestinians". "PALESTINA" was an ancient Greek word for JEWS by Greeks for Jews who dwelled in Judea during the Babylonian captivity of the Jews, Palestina was never a name for Arabian/Assyrian/Phoenician/Hittite/Moabite/Ammonite/Egyptian/Philistine inhabitants who lived in Israel/Judea.
The Jews were slaughtered and removed from their land, and their Temple destroyed by the Babylonian/Iraqis in 586 B.C, and again by the Roman/Italians in 70 A.D., amongst many other persecutions in antiquity, wandered without their homeland for 2,534 years until 1948, and without the City of David until 1967.
Israel has offered a two State solution multiple times, and has offered and given land for Peace, see Olso Peace Accords, this is why Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated because he made a deal with the PLO and gave land back.
The gains of land Israel has gained is because of the "Arab" Conglomerate repeatedly attacking Israel in 1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, and PLO/Hamas/Philistines keep attacking Israelis ad nauseam.
The Arab Committee in 1947-48 voted to reject the U.N. borders and recognition of The Two States of Israel and Palestine, then had a civil war amongst themselves, the Israeli Jews voted to accept the State of Palestine.
Since Indigenous claims seem to be paramount above all else?
Why is there no clamour to give the Canninites their homeland back and remove their Palestinian occupying oppressors?

    • @TimezUp23

What’s happening in Gaza is about the same as what happened at Dresden, it is absolutely horrific but war happens. After wars are won, the winners gain land. The losers lose land. The winners are masters and the losers are slaves. The winners of WW2 didn’t turn the Palestinians into slaves, but they definitely took land. The winners of WW2 tried to give some aid to Palestinians, like lots of aid, but the Palestinians decided to take that aid and use it for war efforts fighting from the losing side and the slave side. Masters will become quite harsh towards their slaves when there are uprisings. people believe that slavery can be eliminated, but that is impossible, it can only be less severe by degree. Sometimes people don’t even know they are slaves. Imagine Germany trying to take over again playing from the losing side? The winners of WW2 may come down hard on them. However, as the future unfolds, the far right European and the far right Islamic worshippers may come together to win in WW3. This would obviously come with the ending of Israel and the scatter of Jews throughout the world. Otherwise it’s the scatter of Palestinians. It’s quite strange the situation boils down to this. The far left is confused and I’m sure you reside on the left. But you don’t want female or gay oppression from the far right European or the far right Islamic worshippers. What we see is the left is confused but definitely doesn’t like the violence. The people the far left has to side with actually makes the far left…. Far right. But you don’t want female oppression or gay oppression. This actually puts you on the side of the Jews. This is why there will only be protest by the left, but no action. Any action would be taken by the losers of WW2 such as not sees and far right religious zealots. The center is surrounded by people who are quite extreme. This group won WW2. It’s quite interesting that the center supports Israel which in fact is far right. What we see is that the far right are the only ones with a real fight in them. They put their nation first and most left wing westerns are very much against nationalism to the point that they betray their own people. Jews will
Not be doing that because their nation is not that large

Very depressing interview but probably the truth. Never in all my life have I seen this from so called civilized nations. I’m sure it has always been this way but we are getting to actually see it. It is nothing short of psychotic, satanic and a reflection of a brutal reality that I thought we had evolved from. I will never forgive the west for this. This has pushed me into a state of mind that I do t think I’ll ever escape from. There’s a very cold, dark reality in this world and it looks like the devil is actually winning. One of the worst parts is all the normal people who make excuses for this: it’s hamas’s fault, human shields, hamas was using that hospital as a base and on and on.

I can no longer speak with either of them about this because it angers me so much.
I have to look past it, they are set in their ways and have to figure out the level of evil required to justify what is happening.

In Gaza's heart, where sorrow's tempests roar,
Allah's presence shines for those oppressed and poor.
Confused and orphaned souls, in anguish stand,
Dependent, wounded, hungry, on this land.
Beloved Gaza, your trials, none can deny,
Would make the very heavens weep and cry.
The Zionists tell a tale of armed strife,
But truth be told, it's innocent lives at stake.
Ten thousand souls have met their tragic end,
A dreadful toll that we can't comprehend.
Among them, children, innocent and young,
Their songs unsung, their stories all unsung.
Beneath the rubble, countless bodies lie,
Their voices silenced, reaching for the sky.
Water and light, the simplest needs denied,
In darkness and despair, they must abide.
If the enemy had their ruthless way,
They'd cut the very breath of life, we say.
For Gaza's children, families, and kin,
The very air they breathe, a grievous sin.
Diseases spread, a menace looms on high,
Yet still, the world stands idly by.
Billions spent on wars and killing's art,
While Gaza's people suffer, torn apart.
Palestinian frames grow thin with malnutrition's might,
As Gaza's plight extends into the night.
No water to quench their thirst or ease their pain,
As bombs fall and fires rage, a ceaseless reign.
Western leaders play their callous games,
With hollow words and false concerns, their aims.
While Gaza bleeds, their "spoiled child" they shield,
A shame on them, their lack of heart revealed.
In truth, the land could hold both hand in hand,
    Two peoples coexisting, peaceful land.
With equal respect, with love and grace,
A future where all hearts find their rightful place.

Well, this is just what I needed to hear. Over the last four years, I lost my Shar Pei Sundance, my husband & soulmate Carly (who's probably rolling over in his grave at all the horrors going on, but he warned that it was only going to get worse), several high school classmates, my cat Casper on the way to the ER (with her little head & paw on my foot in the floorboard), a neighbor & friend, & then lastly, my rock through all the bad stuff & my mental illnesses: my Border Collie mix Angus. Now my house is empty. I live in the South, who was wrong in the Antebellum days & 1861-65, Jim Crow, & now they're supporting Zionism.
The racism raised its ugly head again during Obama's regime, & it refuses to go away. I was raised Methodist, but converted to Anglo-Catholic when many UMC's were becoming more conservative. Now, my hometown church, along with the majority of UMC's in this state, have broken off from the UMC because of their bigotry toward the LGBTQ community. I've been saying for several years that the only real difference between Baptists & Methodists these days is that Methodists sprinkle & Baptists dunk.
I do what I can to educate people, but I have to be careful, as these people are armed to the teeth, but I'm not afraid of carrying a gun to defend myself. I post some stuff on FB, but only a few people bother looking at it, because stupid is as stupid does. A Southern Baptist Church near my house has a marquee that says: "Pray for Israel", & it's all I can do to pass by there without throwing rocks through their windows or spray painting a big swastika on the marquee. I'm joking, but only halfway. I'm 64, so I've witnessed a lot of chaos, especially in the 60's, which I remember even though I was a little girl. When you get to be my age & you see that the horrors are only getting worse, it's really hard to cope. My mother is 87, & she's the reason I haven't gotten the hell out of this country. I know many people nowadays are agnostic or atheistic, but I would urge everybody who still practices whatever their faith is to please pray, meditate, light candles, burn incense, send positive thoughts to Gaza, & if you're brave enough, send negative ones to Zionists of all stripes - just protect yourself first. I believe that collectively - besides sending money, medicine, supplies - we can do a lot by focusing our energy at the same time. Call me a New Age kook or witch, but I've witnessed things. So let's please focus our mind & thoughts on turning things around against Zionism & fascism. So mote it be now. Amen.

I can relate to, and empathize with, what you wrote here. I'm going through some rough things too, all of which pale in comparison to the living nightmare that is Palestine. When I listened to Chris this morning, my first instinct was to numb my emotions. But I read your post and decided rather than "drink my breakfast," to instead put on a pot of coffee and reply to you. I'm your age and also live in the South, raised Baptist (walked away from it 40 years ago) so that's good enough in my book to consider us pen-pals, as we called it back in the day.
I don't talk to those around me about this atrocity - not because I'm afraid to take a stand or to stand alone - but because I dread hearing the ignorance and stupidity that I will hear coming out of their mouths. And I (half-way) dread what my reaction would be. You actually made me chuckle with your reaction to the church sign.
Last night a photo and headline popped across my feed, featuring that monstrous imposter The Pope, calling for cease-fire and more aid to Palestine. Re-directing the narrative and distracting the deceived, but never addressing the root of the problem. I was reminded of a break-down that one of my spiritual teachers did years ago (she would roar with laughter if she heard me call her that) on Rub-a-Dub-Dub, Three Men in a Tub. The Butcher, the Ba(n)ker, The Candlestick Maker. Yeah, most people's brains auto-switch to religion when they see Vatican images but it is truly The Bank and all wars are bankers wars. Then I had an aha moment - The Butcher (worldwide military industrial machine), The Candlestick Maker (media, politics, sports, race-baiting, all that "lights our fire" in our root chakra and distracts us from the spiritual pursuit we came here for.) I went on a deep dive through the etymology of this so-called nursery rhyme and found the ending of it quite interesting, as it changed at different times, in different cultures:
#1 And all of them out to sea
#2 And all of them gone to the fair
#3 And turn them out, knaves all three (original version)
Lots of people would label me New Age and/or kooky too but I've learned to accept that it's not my business to worry about what others think of me. Your words rekindled my strong faith that WE can unite and tune our hearts into a powerful vibration of love that will deafen this latest call to Divide & Conquer humanity. Those of us who see "beyond the veil" grow frustrated with the masses who gobble up the propaganda that is spoon-fed to them, but I do have faith that many will awaken through broken hearts. Through the cracks and wounds is where Christ consciousness may enter. (Wasn't it Rumi who said that the wound is where the light enters?) Just wanted to thank you for writing from your heart so that mine could receive it right on time.

Good analysis. The Zionists don't care - they point to the passages in the Old Testament where God declares he will give them this stretch of land and it will be theirs, forever. Mind you, the Old Testament is not a legal document, but it's in writing, none-th-less, Lord-only-knows who wrote it, could have been a scribe at the time, carving out the letters on a clay cuneiform. They really don't adhere to the "seed" of Abraham bit, as the original Zionists were European converts, not descended Jews. But it doesn't matter to them, that is just a technicality, just use what works to persuade the world they have a right to this whole area.

The creators of the initial framework "the state of Israel" should have been astute enough to realize in advance that the locals would never accept some Europeans coming in and telling them this is your political organization from now on. "Not a single question about Hamas"
What "question about Hamas" - an organisation created by Israeli governments to act as a radical Islamist alternative to the secular PLO and keep the Palestinians divided - will change the reality that collective punishment of civilians is a war crime, indiscriminate attacks on the most densely populated civilian area in the world are war crimes, and pronouncements by far-right, racist, genocidal officials of Israeli governments are clear about their intentions against Gaza?
      "the Palestinians overwhelmingly support them"
Did you do a survey with them? Have they had an opportunity to use elections to show who they support since 2006? And even if they supported the party, do you realise that if the same logic was used in relation to Israeli civilians and their support for their genocidal, racist, apartheid governments, it would make them valid targets for war crimes and slaughter?
Just stop this dishonest game please.

The only thing to do is live to our true values and try to love and help where we can. The evil can not be defeated however. That's also basically what Jesus taught according to the gospels... As an ashiest, I can still see that's a good message.

Thank you Chris and Marc, it's so sad just watching a televised genocide and not be able to do anything, Prof Finkelstein share Chris pesimism, the countries that could do something are indifferent, those countries who have the power to use the oil and gas as leverage to put pressure on the whole system to stop the massacre are very comfortable watching the show, what can we do? I don't even want to watch, I just will pray to God so he can have mercy of our Palestinian brothers.
