- For all the sensationalism surrounding the events of Oct. 7, when Hamas broke through the Gaza fence and seized territory in the Gaza Envelope as part of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, there is still much that we do not know. The official Israeli death toll from the attack is estimated at 1,200 civilians, revised from an initial estimate of 1,400. Among this figure are several hundred civilians, which Israel says were killed by Hamas militants. Other testimony from survivors of Oct. 7 suggests an alternative explanation-that in its fervor to defeat Hamas, Israeli commanders may have willingly targeted and sacrificed Israeli soldiers and civilians in the crossfire. An Israeli woman who survived the Hamas assault on settlements near the Gaza boundary on 7 October says Israeli civilians were “undoubtedly” killed by their own security forces.
It happened when Israeli forces engaged in fierce gun battles with Palestinian fighters in Kibbutz Be’eri and fired indiscriminately at both the fighters and their Israeli prisoners.
“They eliminated everyone, including the hostages,” she told Israeli radio. “There was very, very heavy crossfire” and even tank shelling.
The woman, 44-year-old mother of three Yasmin Porat, said that prior to that, she and other civilians had been held by the Palestinians for several hours and treated “humanely.” She had fled the nearby “Nova” rave.

This report is both shocking and traumatizing. Is that number really reliable? Even if it was 100 children dead that is too much, but I don't trust either Hamas or the IDF to be reporting numbers accurately right now.

There were no No Attacks on civilians the 7th. Just collateral. 500/1200-1300 (they keep magically decreasing) were soldiers. Out of 769 names, 462 military (55 soldiers, 13 privates, 59 corporals, 200 sergeants of whom 45 are sergeants majors, 48 commanders, 32 lieutenants, 5 lieutenant colonels, 6 colonels, 13 captains, 37 officers, 10 inspectors, 6 intendents, 2 Lance Corp). It was a Military defeat, they are taking it out on the rest.

When the massacre at Amritsar occurred in India and the British soldiers fired into the crowd, the British were outraged because it was carried by the news of the time. There were journalists and photographers present to record what happened. Furthermore, the British population was intelligent enough to digest the news and react to it. If Fascists control the flow of world media and protesters are arrested or fired from their jobs or otherwise persecuted, it will be a slim chance that affords us any justice in the future. I feel that these crimes will be like most of those by Stalin and Mao, largely unrecorded and unremembered and ripe for repetition.

Let's be honest, the idea and Netanyahu do not care about their own hostages. Of course on TV they're going to say they care about the hostages but just think if Israel is blocking clean water, feel, electricity and medical supplies, that affects the hostages also. If they're blocking food and water what are the hostages going to eat and that's not even taking into account the bombings. Those hostages have to be somewhere in Gaza in one of those buildings or scattered around in different buildings so if they're bombing every other building they're most likely going to kill the hostages too and if the bombings don't kill him like I said no water no food no medical supply and no electricity is going to kill them then. But Netanyahu doesn't carry he'll just blame her mom's for it he'll say Hamas killed all their hostages but you got to use common sense. Why would Hamas kill all these hostages out of the blue, you have to ask yourself. The whole point of having a hostages is to have some leverage and some type of deal. But like I said Netanyahu does not care about not only Palestinian civilians he doesn't even care about his own civilians

On the 7th, there were no direct attacks on civilians, only collateral damage. Out of the 769 names on the Haaretz dataset, 462 were military personnel, including 55 soldiers, 13 privates, 59 corporals, 200 sergeants (45 of whom were sergeant majors), 48 commanders, 32 lieutenants, 5 lieutenant colonels, 6 colonels, 37 officers, 10 inspectors, 6 intendents, and 2 Lance Corp. This was a military defeat, and they are taking it out on the rest.
Out of the 1148 total names, 403 were military personnel, 59 belonged to the police, and 668 were civilians. This means that the collateral damage on the 7th was lower than any of the iTf "mowing" operations, which has a ratio of 6:1. The ratio of civilians to military personnel killed on the 7th was 1.6:1, with 462 military personnel out of 1148 total. When including all casualties, not just deaths, the collateral damage ratio of the "mowing" operations is 162:1 and not "just" 6:1 based on analyzing UN OHC data from 2008 to 2022.
A 162 :1 ratio means that for every 162 civillians, 1 military personnel is a casualty. The 7th had a ratio of 1.6:1, a hundred times lower.
The reported (not all have their ages listed) ages of the victims are as follows:
0-4: 2 civilians
5-12: 8 civilians
13-17: 14 civilians
18-25: 132 civilians
26-40: 119 civilians
41-60: 55 civilians
61+: 40 civilians
18-25: 258 active duty military personnel
26-40: 60 active duty military personnel
41-60: 17 active duty military personnel
61+: 1 active duty military personnel

But, you know the stories about 10/7 didn't sound quite right, somehow. I thought there was exaggeration. That's not unusual. But the stories the reporter told here feel more real somehow. They fit with the other pieces. Those stories fit with the bombing, which makes no sense whatsoever. It fits with the Israeli government hurrying to start bombing when Qatar had been arranging an exchange of hostages.
