My Dad taught me to never let the tank get below half full, that way, you can always get back to your last stopping point instead of being stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Also when travelling, remember the acronym P.O.W.E.R. = Petrol, Oil, Water, Electrics, Rubber. Look after these things and you’ll have a safe trip.

Fun Fact: The pretty coffee cups were designed by a fantastic Indigenous artist, Helen Ansell, who lives in a country town about 6 hours north of Perth. In the early Spring the area comes alive with masses of wildflowers. If you ever decide to do a north of Perth road trip, def look at the wildflowers of the mid-west region (especially Coalseam Conservation Park) in mid-late August! So many road trip sights in that whole area extending from Perth to Broome!
Also, when/if you're going through Adelaide, be sure to stop in at Hahndorf, a German town in the Adelaide hills!

Just about any Australian burger from a corner store or similar outlet will have what we call “beetroot” (USA = canned pickled sliced beets) included with the salad on the burger. It’s uncommon not to have it unless you’re eating at Maccas (McDonalds) or something. The landing strips on the side of the roads out there are for the Royal Flying Doctor Service which provides emergency medical services by plane to remote communities.

    • @wrangazz

yes, the flying doctors are absolute legends. They have saved the lives of two of my friends from major trauma whist i was living rural and one of the main reasons i decided to change career and become a nurse. please give to the RFDS if you can

The simple joy and curiosity with which you both embrace life is infectious. You are showing me parts of my own country I've never seen. I was so glad to see this instalment pop up in my feed as I've been wondering how you guys were faring (fared). My heart was in my throat when you got bogged in the middle of nowhere, and I have to keep telling myself if I am watching it, I can assume you made it. Congratulations on 7 years so far! Oh, and your Aussie accent is awesome, Chevvo!

They're making me feel guilty. Funny how you never have the desire to travel around your own country.
Mind you with Emperor McGowan"s edict to inspect every vehicle arriving and leaving the state of WA, thus treating everyone as a common criminal, I wouldn't visit WA if my life depended on it after that announcement last week.

The old jetty you showed was built to service a telegraph station that was build in the late 19th century and operated into the early 20th century. the old telegraph station is still near the jetty, but it is often covered by sand. Supplies and crew changes could only be made by sea. Photographs show the workers at the telegraph station working wearing ties.

In 2009 we travelled extensively through WA from NSW. On our way back from Norseman my GPS said "in 1200km turn left". I took several days to make that left hand turn.

Just make sure you guys don't get bogged around an area by the name of Wolf Creek.😮😅
A handy hint. Carry a 12volt air compressor, that way if you ever get bogged in sand again, and you 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 get rescued, drop your tyre(yes, that's how we spell it) pressures down to maybe 15psi, 10 if you're in deeper, and that hopefully will get you out, then use the air compressor hooked up to your cars 12v port, and away you go!😊

The way you guys authentically charge through life together as nothing more than yourselves in this crazy world we live in and show the beauty and give so much hope and deliver it in such an artistic and organized yet chaotic way that is just the way we all are reflected in every scene like a movie that we are all in together of life and the persuit to see all that we can see before we leave this rock in the middle of space and time.

Stumbled across your Adelaide post today (my home town) and have spent a couple of hours watching your vids this Good Friday.
Love your stuff because it is genuine and informative and also you are showing us the great part of being a young couple sharing each other's company as your tour the world. Reminds my wife and my first overseas trip as a couple to the UK and US when we were in our 20s and before we settled down to have a family - although nowhere near as adventurous as what you are doing.
FWIW my last o/s trip (before covid) included a 2 week self drive tour from California to cities/states in the S/W of the US including Tucson and Phoenix in Arizona in Feb/March. I loved that part of the world and you are dead right - it is reminiscent of much of Western Australia and South Australia in terms of the 'look and feel' of the climate (although we don't get much snow here). Anyway, stay safe and keep loving life!

Hey! I own a Mazda just like that one! it’s a 2006, SP23 that has 360,000kms on the clock and still runs perfectly. Best car I’ve ever owned in my 50+ years of driving.
I’ve run into the same problem of relying on mobile coverage for navigating, so I use maps (you know, the paper ones?) they're still the best navigational aids bar none. I don’t trust tech stuff, with perfectly good reasons as far as I’m concerned. Maps don’t change and they don’t need an Internet connection. EVER!
    Love Blueberry!

I love how you guys keep videoing the bitumen freeway stretching to the horizon. When i was in the army we’d be out on dirt tracks that stretched to the horizon like that. There are some remote places in this country but the nullarbor crossing aint one of them. In the back of some of the older vehicles, like unimogs, you couldn’t see the guy sitting next to you or across from because of the red dust. And i mean you couldn’t see those guys at all. Feel you on the flies - desert flies are the worst.
Those are crickets and sandgropers - the sandgropers are like crickets that burrow underground. Thats what west australians are named for.
I mentioned before you shouldn’t off-road in that vehicle. Its super not suitable for the conditions.

The beetroot is pickled, so often its in place of regular pickles.
Oh yeah you want a hat with a net out there to stop the flies.
I wouldn't be worried about serial killers, but the sand lol. Glad you had help.

Did you know that the Nullabour has two emergency airstrips built into it so the Royal Flying Doctor Service can land and take people to hospital quicker than by road? Also, they have the worlds longest golf course.
Beetroot in burgers is normal for us, at least we don't eat whole pickles here.

The Shire Mayor sending NASA a fine for littering when a piece of Skylab landed nearby was a cheeky tongue in cheek stunt.
Poor NASA officials didn't know how to take it, especially as it was front page news that it was found. It took an Australian official in DC to explain that was just typical outback Aussie humor.
We all thought it was hilarious here in Australia.

  • @WIgirl26
    @WIgirl26 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

When Tia mentioned serial killers, I nodded yes. When you watch real life crime shows, you end up watching episodes of crimes committed in countless other countries. In Australia, the crime I remember watching was about 2 backpackers. They were tied up, tortured and killed. Who knows if it was a serial killer, but that crime has stuck with me. There are certain crimes around the world that sticks with u when u hear about them. I guess that's what happens when u watch true crime shows. 🤦‍♀️
I would LOVE to have beets on a burger. Beets is one of my favorite vegetables. ❤

It is also nice, (not compulsory) each little town or roadhouse, say hello and buy something, they need every bit of help from everyone and tourists to keep the lights on. I don't get why you bought a mattress but not pillows, pillows are cheap af. Australia used to have an inland sea, you will find fossils and shells anywhere you go.

Great video guys. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. My wife and kids and I drove from Newcastle to Perth and back in 1989. Those Great Australian Bight cliffs blew us away. Here's a tip: after you've passed through Ceduna, and get to Wudinna (pronounced Wood-na), get there early enough to try the bakery goodies then drive out to Mount Wudinna and climb it. A mini Uluru, but still ginormous. Oh and keep getting beetroot on your burgers. It's the best.

I know you both did not have a lot of time in Esperance, but the museum there had quite a few displays dedicated to Sky Lab. Debris from Sky Lab's re-entry to Earths atmosphere was found between Balladonia and Esperance and I recall (having grown up in Perth) some bits landing around there as well. Basically the south west of Western Australia and the surrounding Indian and Southern Oceans. I am loving your channel. I live in Kalgoorlie but have not got to the Nullarbor in over 30 years. Amazing guys! You are bringing me back so many memories as a kid driving across the Nullabor with my parents every 2-3 years from Perth to Melbourne to spend Christmas with my dads family. Some times we would drive through the night, which I don't recommend due to the Kangaroos about at night, we would always stop at the fuel station in Balladonia, and definitely at Eucla right before border village (do they still have the stone Whale there?). Cheveyo, very good checking the cars oil, water, fuel etc when you can. Ceduna is beautiful! Loving the adventure!

love your videos done that trip many times i see your getting that feeling of a never-ending open expanse i think a unique one to Australia only felt out there one of complete isolation and remoteness the sound is pollution free (except for the road trains of course) you have to park up at night away from the roadhouse at the end of the nullabor and check out the stars no light pollution its an insane picture good luck blueberries gunna need it Ceduna is probably a place you dont want to stay at for too long.

I am loving your channel , and in particular the trip across the Nullarbor. My husband I have travelled across several times, relocating camper vans and cars. Food at the Roadhouses is always good. They have truckers to feed!!!! We take it in turn to drive the Ninety Mile Straight. Enjoy. BTW, we relocated a camper from Sydney to Perth. First time I knew we grow cotton in Australia! We moved here from the UK in 2008 and are so happy.

Oh yeah, don't forget to visit Nimbin. About an hour from Byron bay, in the hinterlands. Lovely spot, lots of hippies.

Wow! Haven’t watched you guys, since you were in Vietnam (sorry). I come back to see what you’re up to and see, you stayed at the same hotel in Perth we stayed at a few weeks ago, come to where I live, Busselton (Busso), go to Pemberton where I work (I drive Pemberton-Melbourne-Perth for a living) Feeling stalked 😂. Oh, happy anniversary guys. Safe travels.
