    I climbed over that fence and placed a rose plant on Jim's grave on 10/9/13 even though I'm 62 with two bad hips and had a bone spur in my left heel. Being there was unbelievably moving as a lifelong Doors fan. Pere Lachaise is a beautiful and surprisingly uncreepy cemetery. There's beautiful statues and gardens everywhere, cobblestone paths lined with ancient chestnut trees. You can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance at the crest of a hill near George Bizet's grave (not from Jim's grave unfortunately). Jim's grave is a bit sad, neglected. It's tucked behind a large crypt. Fans do come by in a steady stream daily and leave flowers, notes, votive candles. It began to rain as we stood there, very moving. I sensed his presence there, I really did. RIP, Jim. you were one of the Truly Great.

      It's a shame they have to have the fence, I guess it's to prevent vandalism to the crypts around him. I heard they have a guard there now too.

      I was there in 2014. There was a fence but it was detached at the corners, making it easy to slip through. Lots of good people seem to stop by there every day to pay their respects... I wish they kept it a little cleaner, but there are lots of good intentions in the people who do visit.

    I was in the audience in Frankfurt Germany, 1969 (?) I'd never seen anything like the Doors. Morrison had an electric, magnetic presence, they all shared it, but Jim was a fountainhead. The music swirled through the auditorium like gods arriving on thunderclouds, prophesy and Dionysius. 45 years later, I remember that night.

      I saw them twice and I know exactly what you mean. Jim had amazing charisma, intelligence and showmanship - the greatest front man ever (Jagger is the only one who comes close). Jim made sure the audience left mesmerized. Ray and Jim committed themselves that momentous afternoon on Venice Beach to creating a rock group like no other - and they succeeded. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and The Doors were one of a kind. There will never be another group like them. No other group came close then and, 50 years later, none has come close since. The Doors are in a uniquely elevated class all their own. RIP Jim and Ray knowing that your legendary genius lives on.

      Their music was so unique and sounds just as great today as it did when I saw them in the late 60's. These were TRUE artists, the real deal. Ray and Jim were highly intelligent, well read intellectuals (Rimbaud, Nietzsche, Dostoevsky, Kafka to name just a few). Jim's favorite pastime was reading. He devoured books - good books. Every time I listen to their music, I hear something new. The Doors are timeless.

    The Doors were one of the few bands where each band member is absolutely indispensable.Without any one individual it doesn’t work. Most bands could go on after losing a guitarist, drummer or bassist and still be “The Rolling Stones” or “Pink Floyd”. With the Doors, everyone was essential for what they brought to the sound, the musical style, the songwriting, and the look.

      I went with my daughter in 2013 and had a bone spur on my left heel, but rolled my 62 year old self over the low metal fence and put a rose plant on his grave and said a few words - and at that very moment, the fog turned to rain. You know, Jim was a big practical joker. My daughter couldn't believe it because I had told her that morning before we left our apt. in Montmartre that I "hoped it rained when we visited Jim." We had been at Pere Lachaise walking in a thick fog for nearly 3 hours by the time we got to Jim's grave. We both felt his energy there and a plain-clothed guard overheard us and said they see his spirit all the time.

I feel a kindred spirit to his .. the same never tamed spirit and somewhere never one of the clan .. so seeing him in his videos gives my spirit a kind of relief .. I like to say I'm his little sister *

      He was one of a kind. His father finally realized his son's talent too late and eventually flew to Paris with Jim's mother to pay homage to him. The Greek epitaph they had carved on a new headstone for Jim's grave essentially says that Jim followed his own spirit. He had that poet's soul, he was a depressive and drank himself to death. He died far too young.

    These two guys were literally on Jim's doorstep indeed...probably were pleading Jim to be their ferryman. Ray Manzarek was as important as Morrison for that unique Doors sound.And for spotting Jim's charisma.

    Jim's family should have his remains brought back to the Venice California area. That's where he had his inspiration , start & success. How many of us have the time & money to go to Paris, The Doors are and always will be from America.

    • @tiamia7139
      @tiamia7139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, he WANTED to be buried at Pere Lachaise. He told his friend Alain Ronay when they were standing in front of Oscar Wilde's grave there that "THIS" was where he wanted to be buried. All his favorite writers - Oscar Wilde was one of them - are buried there. Jim was an intellectual and prolific writer - Pere Lachaise is the perfect and most fitting place for him. He hated the phoniness of L.A. That's why he was so pissed off at Ray and Robbie for selling out The Doors for some dippy car commercial. Densmore was the only one who understood this - and he did NOT sell out. Props to him! At his heart, Jim Morrison was an artist.

      he said, she said, they said, we said, I said , you said....unless it was specifically WRITTEN in his will , people can say whatever they want . Doesn't mean its a fact or truth. Some people who do serious drugs ( believe it or not) are not in their right mind and might say or do anything irrational.
      ( like kill themselves)
      Plus, do you think a dead person would really get upset where he is buried ?
      lol They're dead.
      And what if Jim is now saying ; CRAP ! I hate being buried in a city full of frogs !

    • @tiamia7139
      @tiamia7139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quinton, OMG man. "dead person...get upset where he is buried"..."city full of frogs"...Where do you come up with this stuff? What are you smoking? Alain Ronay, who was a very close friend of Jim's and who Jim spent his last day on earth with quoted what Jim told him as they stood in front of Oscar Wilde's grave. Jim said "Alain, this place is so f-ing beautiful. THIS is where I want to be buried! Please make sure I am buried here." He wasn't dead, knucklehead, but he did die a month or so later - and Alain kept his promise. Why are you name-calling Parisians? Paris is the most beautiful city on earth and Pere Lachaise is a very beautiful, elegant and historic cemetery - the most famous one in France. Thousands of famous artists, writers, statesmen, musicians, dancers, actors/actresses and Great Thinkers are buried there. The City of Paris is VERY discriminating about who can be buried there. Trust me, they'd never let you in. However, some day my ashes will be scattered there. Can't think of a more beautiful place to spend eternity. Vive la France!

      Tia Mia maybe they both were tripping and two strangers walked by saying; "wow man. this place is really beautiful. this is where I want to be buried." So, if it's NOT WRITTEN DOWN FOR THE RECORD, ANYONE CAN SAY ANYTHING THEY LIKE .

Anyway, Jim is gone, now so is Ray, may God have them both under his mantle where they can finally rest forever. I had the pleasure of meeting both Ray and Robbie when I was working for Virgin Records in L.A. and I must say it will always be one of the highlights of my life.
