Jim Morrison was a great talent, all the Doors were. I visited in the very early 90's, frankly it was a state . Perhaps it has been cleaned up a bit since then.
Your right. Those were some crazy and tumultuous times. The Viet Nam War, the Race Riots, Sit ins, Peace Marches, drug abuse. So, but don't you think it still might have been better then? People still weren't as polorized as today.
Drug and alcohol recovery therapists often say the "27 Club" is caused by ten years of abusing one's body...such as starting at age 17 and by age 27 it's too much to bear. Very sad. Nearly 60 myself...27 seems and is...very very young😢
I took a train from Amsterdam to Paris so I could visit Jim in 1999, I was extremely high on magic mushrooms and it was an amazing experience. I’m a massive Doors fan and this is an excellent video!
My goodness! How time flies, and how Jim seems to have external youth when you see the photos of the handsome young man ,mop of curls and gorgeous bone structure…a real model look. I loved his music with the doors too, but this was a wake up call too, when being born in 1943 you suddenly realise he would be either approaching or in his 80th year had he survived! It doesn’t seem possible, and although sad at his unnecessary death, I am better equipped mentally to view his image “then” than an octogenarian bless him! ( no offence to people that age as I’m fast approaching myself!) Lovely tribute Cathal…Thankyou for finding Jim for us and paying respects. RIP Jim, and Thankyou for your music and writings which live on. 🙏💐💕🦋🦋🦋
Thank you for the respect that you gave to Jim's story. He was one in a million and I feel blessed to have seen him in Miami. And for those who wonder if he did those things there....he did.
Thank you for going to Pere Lachaise cemetery to pay respects to Jim Morrison and I wish I could go but you went for me to see his grave on your video, Thanks Again.
I was in my third year of high school, how could I forget this guy. But I was not a druggie like a lot of my peers. So I was not cool at the time. I think "Light My Fire" was my favorite song. Sad he died young. RIP. 🙏♥️
Morrison’s grave, at first barely marked, soon became the most visited grave in the cemetery. In 1981, a headstone was crafted by the Croatian artist Mladen Mikulos. (The bust was stolen in 1988.) In 1990, Morrison’s grave was renovated and a new curb and headstone installed. Mikulos’s headstone was destroyed. Finally in 2004, complaints regarding the destructive behavior of some of Morrison’s fans- who were not only trampling on neighboring graves, but actually defacing them with graffiti and slogans- came to a head. The surrounding area was often littered with beer cans especially on the anniversaries of his death without any thought for the graves of the dead Morrison himself had so respected and wanted to be buried alongside.
why was his remains not sent back to his family in the U.S.? no one can watch over his grave or visit from that side of the family ubless they fly half way across the world, or old band mates. Shelfish move on his then wife? And he plenty of money, yet his grave is so bland and humble
I visited in 92. What a mess! Absolute lack of respect by some Doors fans. Doors graffiti etched into other tombs, bottles and cans strewn on route to his grave. I was happy they fenced it off later.
thank you. this was lovely. Jim was my first crush. i was almost 10yrs old! lol! i got to see them perform twice. once at the Hollywood Bowl show thats so famous and also at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach CA. i understand why the barricades are up, but i know i would so want to see it up close and touch his stone. thank you again!

Sad he died so young as he had great talent. The Doors were amazing. Especially that song Rider on the storm. Their best song to me. Sorry drugs seemed to go after him and his girlfriend.thanks for his story.
GV , I am now 71 . After hearing Break on through and Light my fire on the first Album, I was a Doors fan at 16 . Grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and attended a Doors concert at the Spectrum downtown with some friends. During an intermission I started wandering through the stadium, exploring. I went through a door on the first floor that said no admittance on it and actually ran directly into Jim Morrison head on. A man told me to get out and Jim told him it was ok .. I turned around and wandered back to my seat . Those were some wonderful times GV , innocent times if you remember. Spending my summers on the New Jersey shores ( Ocean City) the boardwalk, the girls ! I want to go back ! GV , Thank you for doing an episode on the Doors . We have something in common .
Thank you for visiting Jim Morrisons grave. From the time I learned to read, I was fascinated by those who would stray away from the mundane and touch the other side. I loved, and still love, his lyrics and poetry, which in the end are one and the same. I have a deep appreciation of songs, many of which were never bonafide hits, though I think one of my favorites, People are Strange, did fairly well. Land Ho is another favorite because I would sing it with my little girl, who would gleefully scream “Land ho!” at the appropriate time. I was 16 when he died and I cried my tender teenage heart out. Strangely, though saddened about the deaths of others in the “27 Club”, I was never as grievously broken hearted as I was over Jims death. His fantastical writing wormed its way into my spirit and has never let me go. RIP James, perhaps I will see you after I break on through to the other side. Again, thank you. ❤️
Nice tribute to Jim Morrison. My first concert was seeing The Doors in 1968. Jim's drug of choice was LSD or psychedelics. It was his drinking that killed him, imo.😥
Thank you so much for making this video, I'd love to visit this place but will never get there. Big fan of The Doors, too many great musicians gone before their times sadly.
Extremely talented man, in spite of his addictions, he certainly would have continued to achieve great things in Art, music, fashion, books, poetry and possibly have a family...if he had lived. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan and others of Jim's era are 80 now, as he would be. Still, his legacy will live on. Thank you for taking us to Paris to pay respects!! RIP Jim Morrison❤
Great video, and thank you so much for sharing. Jim Morrison also performed where I grew up in Detroit, Michigan area at the grand ballroom in downtown detroit area.

I have to give to you, you certainly know a lot about Jim Morrison and the “Doors ! Thanks for visiting his grave I always wanted to know what the cemetery was like . From what I thought and pictures I’ve seen, it seemed like a cemetery in New Orleans . I can tell your a big fan. My favorite song is Riders on the Storm !

I made the pilgrimage to Jim's grave in 1991 from Australia. Drank some whiskey at his grave. Almost got arrested for filming there without a licence, which I didn't know I needed. I still have a pebble on my bookshelf i took from the path next to his grave. The original bust on his grave deteriorated so badly in the weather, it started to look grotesque so on the 20th anniversary of his death his father installed the new headstone there today which reads: "the famous ancient Greek inscription kata ton daimona eautou (which can be translated as “true to his own spirit” or "true to his own demon", and the bust was broken up and dug into the grave. It wasn't barracaded off when I was there and it was -10° and my friend and I were alone. I poured some whiskey into his grave. It's an amazing place with sooo many famous people interred in the cemetery. An experience I'll never forget. Unfortunately my footage was lost.
@GraveVisitations much appreciated! Noticed but haven't watched yet, YOU almost got in trouble filming at the other cemetery in Paris! Funny when the Head of Pere Lachaise was asked "Do you think Jim Morrison really died and is really buried there?" He said, "He'd bloody better be for all the crap we have to put up with, with that grave!!!" 😜
@Granto-ni9qw that's what I was told when I was there as the bust was so weathered it looked like melted wax. I've never heard it was stolen but I don't know. It would have been very heavy and it's a long was from any of the high walled perimetre wall/gates which are locked at night. 🤔
Jim graduated from the same high school i went to. He graduated a year before i did, melbourne florida. He had a great talent and could sing and greatly famous for it. He was a product of the 60's like so many, myself included. He was extremely high before being famous and hit a neighbor of ours. The poor man nearly died, lost his legs and he never even reached out to say he was sorry. So sad😢. He later became part of the 27 club😢
Great video man I am 44 and have been a life long Doors fan since I was in grade 8 and really got into them in early grade 9 this has been one of my dreams ever since than is going too visit Jim ' s grave my favorite Doors songs are the End , When the Music ' s over , Severed Garden , Soul Kitchen and Chrystal Ship and Waiting for the Sun along with his many poems just too name a few Doors fans are not made they are born .
@@GraveVisitations You are welcome brother greetings from Canada and yes the Doors was a great band When the Doors of perception are opened everything will seem as they are infinite Robert Blake .
Nice...I was there on July 3rd 1981, ten years to the day he left us. It was great to get there and stay for a spell. At that time, there was a marble bust sitting atop the marker but was stolen and during the get away the bust fell and literally busted. Jim was one of a kind. I always wanted to believe he faked it and would return as he said he might do but he never did. He really did break on thru`~
That photo of Jim looks familiar. 🤔..... And do know a few of his songs. I think I've seen his picture used in a movie (lost boys).. Yes strange . people go out in the rain , when your strange... 🎶... Yes that was on the Lost boys.. So yeah I believe it was his picture hanging in the cave of the vampires. That's so cool GV. Great video.

Each time we go to Paris a visit to Pere Lachaise is always on our list. It is always a moving kind of existential experience to see his grave site. There are always people there. First time there I pulled out a bottle of wine a tried to drink a toast. That was interrupted by a guard quickly grabbing the bottle as he quickly and silently came from behind a tree. Almost got kicked out!!!! If you can go,,,,do it. You will be with fans.
It is sad but jim chose to live that way as we all do things in life we might regret, i know i wish sometimes i could turn clock back (i never taken drugs tho thank god)
Everyone went through a Doors period. Mine was in the 80s when the 60s made a resurgence. I always wanted to visit Père-Lachaise. I liked the footage of the cemetery, but was dismayed at the condition of Jim's grave. I just thought after all of these years, it wouldn't look so junky. As a kid, it's cool. As an adult, it's like, come on, clean it up.
I didn't know anything about this man.. but I visited Oscar wildes grave there in summer 1995.. Then I had a strange experience...I remarked to my two companions..isn't it lovely they put candles on it.. I saw a row of tea lites along a ridge on the tomb....they were lit in coloured receptacles..However upon getting the photos back from developing..there was no sign of the candles.. strange but true.. Ps.i was surprised to hear baby jackdaws in there..
He was years ahead of his time.Great songwriter, Superb!

The poor man nearly died, lost his legs and he never even reached out to say he was sorry. So sad😢. He later became part of the 27 club😢

Come on GV, Light Our Fire!!!😁
😁
So much love.Tony
Nice...I was there on July 3rd 1981, ten years to the day he left us. It was great to get there and stay for a spell. At that time, there was a marble bust sitting atop the marker but was stolen and during the get away the bust fell and literally busted. Jim was one of a kind. I always wanted to believe he faked it and would return as he said he might do but he never did. He really did break on thru`~
All the songs you mentioned, Love me two times, love her madly, touch me and light my fire were all written by Robbie Krieger.
Great songs
That photo of Jim looks familiar. 🤔..... And do know a few of his songs. I think I've seen his picture used in a movie (lost boys)..
Yes strange . people go out in the rain , when your strange... 🎶... Yes that was on the Lost boys.. So yeah I believe it was his picture hanging in the cave of the vampires.
That's so cool GV.
Great video.
I really like that movie
Great walking, Jim was a beautiful and sensitive soul, most people he was aggressive. His last years were spent in Paris, like Chopin.
he lived few years, however he experienced all the pleasures in the world as much as possible. Life was good
Bless you and rest in peace.🙏

What time frame is Jim's spirit shown?
Good video GV
Each time we go to Paris a visit to Pere Lachaise is always on our list. It is always a moving kind of existential experience to see his grave site. There are always people there. First time there I pulled out a bottle of wine a tried to drink a toast. That was interrupted by a guard quickly grabbing the bottle as he quickly and silently came from behind a tree. Almost got kicked out!!!! If you can go,,,,do it. You will be with fans.
I've had bad experiences with Paris cemetery staff lol
Merci!!!
Hi GV how are you today just after jumping on your channel
My brother got to see them , when he was in the army. Pam, is buried close to Jim as well.
Pam is buried in America
It is sad but jim chose to live that way as we all do things in life we might regret, i know i wish sometimes i could turn clock back (i never taken drugs tho thank god)
Jim Morrison ❤️
Everyone went through a Doors period. Mine was in the 80s when the 60s made a resurgence. I always wanted to visit
Père-Lachaise. I liked the footage of the cemetery, but was dismayed at the condition of Jim's grave. I just thought after all of these years, it wouldn't look so junky. As a kid, it's cool. As an adult, it's like, come on, clean it up.
I think the grave was vandalised in the past. Fans still jump the fence and leave stuff but yea for sure it should be cleared up
R. I. P. Jim
Riders on the storm is my favourite.
Mine also
Mine also
Jimbo had some set of pipes!
I have such a great memory of visiting back when Usher had the airwaves
Good times 😁
Love his music I have 2 LPS.
Oh that is a strange one about the candles spooky tales I've heard about his grave in Paris
R.I.P. Darlin ❤
I am an elderly woman now but I did like the Doors music.
Always good to hear from you ❤️
