    Weeks before this was filmed, Jim and Pam followed our High School Spanish Club on a visit to LA ALHAMBRA-GRANADA,Museum in Spain. It was April 10,1971 True. We didnt figure it out at the time but later realized they were the "two American hippies" listening in on our English version of the Museum Tour. Can read about his visit to that museum on that date in a book about Jim. They were very cool--would nod to us, but kept their distance as they followed us on the Tour. He had a beard at that time, she was beautiful. They were clearly in love with each other. Giggling and holding hands and enjoying that we didnt recognize them.

      Jim Morrison died July 3, 1971. Saw his grave in February 1987, 16 years after his death. The area was covered with graffiti and his marble bust over his grave was askew. I picked it up and straightened it up and the lady in the cemetery saw me and called the Gendarme on me!?!? They jumped out of their car with their MAS bullpup rifles but did nothing.

    Haunting and beautifully sad. Pam dances like a mayfly in the summer sun and Jim's camerawork may indicate his decline and self-destruction. Did he know that the end was near ? To die in Paris like Oscar Wilde. It's sad that they were never buried together. But its spellbinding to have this imperfect footage. The decling icon of rock with his enchanting love in a moment of idyll. They should have been buried together like Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre in a Danish churchyard. But they were not destined to grow old together but sailed forth into rock martyrdom. Sleep well Jim and Pam

      And, I know this is an 8mm camera, but in general older glass camera lenses look better. Their imperfect look and chromatic aberrations make the images appear magical, further enhancing her beauty. Or at least not taking from it. In fact, now Alexa are making digital cameras that can accommodate some of those old cinema lenses. Cooke Optics talk about this on their amazing TH-cam channel. While everything Netflix produce now is 4K, most of the lenses used to make their stuff are too pristine and perfect looking making everything look digital.

    Morrison was an incredible intellect, poet, and rock star (when not too stoned). But he was a lousy cinematographer! Surprising, becausing he took courses in the subject. In his defence, the Super 8 gear that he was oftened photographed was crude compared to today's iPhones or video cams. Pam was gorgeous and idyllic; yet another heroin overdose tragedy at a young age. RIP to both.

      It's a really fascinating piece of film but I agree with you. The first thing that occurred to me was how someone with his UCLA Film education could be so bad with a camera in hand? It's a bit trippy so maybe they were a bit 'refreshed' when they made it. I am reading Angels Dance and Angels die at the moment. Anyone interest is Pam and Jim would love it. There is a lot of detail about their lives together and a lot about the Doors too of course.

      As I mentioned to someone else…I read somewhere that they had they or he purchased the Braun Nico camera near or after arriving in Paris so, It may have been one of the first times he used that particular camera and was experimenting with the zoom. Since there is only, so far, proof of 2 films from that time.

    This was 6 weeks before Jim died and Pam died 3 years later, both 27, both of heroin OD. I had a Super 8 camera as a teen. This is 3 minutes, the standard duration of a 50' 18fps reel. It was silent only until 1973 when they added a sound strip to the film. I've been to Père Lachaise Cemetery.

      They probably did know.

    • @ckotcher1
      @ckotcher1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No i’m sure Jim knew the end was near. he had such a preoccupation with death. He was never quite comfortable in his own skin. Alcohol really took a toll on him, and his body was already kind of breaking down… it’s no excuse for Pam to be an enabler though. A lot of people don’t know that when they were in Paris together, they actually spend very little time together… she was always out with Marianne Faithfull‘s boyfriend, getting high and hooking up with him. Jim spent a lot of time alone, walking around the streets of Paris. The woman who owned the hotel they were staying in said she really didn’t know they were even a couple because they didn’t spend a lot of time together. At least not at the hotel…But Jim was a big Oscar Wilde fan, and he knew that Oscar Wilde died at the same hotel. I don’t think he saw a big future for himself. It’s almost as if he went to Paris to die, but will never know..

      @@ckotcher1 That is really interesting. Thanks for sharing. Definitely different perspective than books and media I’ve listened to painting Paris out to be a peaceful sanctuary where they were in love, free and at peace during their time there before Jim’s death.

    • @ckotcher1
      @ckotcher1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rknrlgrl6146 Thanks i’ve done my homework. Most documentaries talk about Jim’s life and then Paris is kind of a footnote. Like “then he went to Paris and we never saw him after that” but there is one documentary that cuts to the truth and focuses completely on Paris and what happened there. They interview the hotel staff, Bill Siddons, and the friends Jim made while he was staying there. People love the idea of Pam and Jim the love story but they completely romanticize it without looking at the sad truth: And that is that she was an H addict. I don’t know if Jim thought getting out of LA would change that. if anything I think it might have been Pam’s idea. Look up this name: Count.Jean De Breteiul. He was a French aristocrat, Pamela’s ex-boyfriend and H dealer to the stars. Psm knew he was in Paris with Marianne (and lots of good H).. in this documentary a lot of people who were around them in gym’s last days say that Pam, and always come up to Jim and ask for large sums of money then disappear for hours on end leaving Jim to write or explore. By all accounts she was seeing Jean on the side or maybe even had a three-way thing with Jean and Marianne who knows. But most people believe now that Jim did some of Jean’s H and THAT is what killed him. Pam’s story has always been sketchy and she wanted to keep things under wraps even dodging Bill Siddons phone calls. Nobody besides Bill knew Jim was dead until 2-3 days after his death and some including his own parents didn’t find out until after the funeral which was only 10 minutes long and only 5 mourners including Pam, Bill, the couple they met in Paris but no Priest or family members. Immediately after Jim’s death, Marianne who is the only survivor of this mess and says Jean’s H killed Jim) and Jean would flee Paris and go to Morocco. Jean would Od a couple years later.

    According to members of the doors, Pam and Jim had a love-hate relationship. It was unfortunate Pam was a heroine accidict. She passed just two or three years after jim. Jims fortune went to Pam, and after Pam went to members of Pam's family. The morrison family sued, and the fortune was split between the two families. She still remains a bit of a mystery to me. Fascinating. Thank you for your efforts. A little close to the bone - an invasion into private moments that made me feel quite uncomfortable. One wishes that Jim and Pam could have become healthy and happy and lived a normal and banal but good life but it seems that by the time they got to Paris either or both of them may have been too far down their path of addiction to recover. They're still just kids in this footage (assuming that it is Jim filming) and could have lived for another 60 or more years.

    This footage is both erie and romantic. Jim had many facets. He was rage and sex. He was intellectual and brutish, peaceful and unsettling. Pam may have been his muse. I can't help but feel sad to see her skipping through the cemetery and how each of them felt so comfortable and secure among the dead. Surely they both understood that the course they were taking was leading towards an untimely end. Maybe in this moment the fame and the pressure of the persona of being Jim Morrison as the public came to know him faded away and he felt some level of bliss looking at his love through the lens. Maybe a message being sent that it would only be through the escape of death that they might feel free enough to enjoy each other in that way. I find the location of the cemetary interesting as he pans in and out of focus on Pam and the images of the head stones. I dont know really, but theres something more they're expressing here.
