    curving the ball is known as the magnus effect in physics, During my classes the teacher actually showed clips of a footballer called Roberto Carlos - who kind of trademarked this way of striking the ball to a certain extent - to demonstrate this effect.

    • @hartshaped
      @hartshaped ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Though true, the thing Roberto Carlos was most famous for that gained his reputation was a swerved free kick against France, however he admitted in recent years that it was going wide and the wind took it (which I think is quite funny)

      Curling the ball always existed. Carlos became known (particularly for one particular free kick) for hitting it off the outside of his boot with extreme curl. Curling off the outside of the foot also existed but it was extreme and gained huge attention from fans and media. He was a very good player but that free kick made him more famous than he probably would’ve been otherwise.

    • @FixTheLanes
      @FixTheLanes ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Dreyno you're completely correct mate but in modern times the actual football itself has changed in shape and depending upon where you strike it the wind channels between certain patterns stitched into the ball. It's why a knuckle ball free kick now exists. Your talking about one of the greatest fullbacks of all time using a 30yr old football. But i appreciate your opinion and its not actually incorrect jist outdated

    De Bruyne is unquestionably one of the geniuses of the modern game. His position is attacking midfield, providing the link from midfield to attack (sometimes referred to as the "number 10" position).
    If you like players who score from distance, Steven Gerrard's highlights are well worth a look, or Juninho Pernambucano.

    A lot of how his passes work so well is that once midfielders like him and strikers play together for a while, they end up both getting such a good idea of when and where the pass needs to go that kdb can send it and more often than not a striker will have put himself in a good spot to pick it out. that dual awareness of what his teammates should be, and therefore will be doing, paired with his insanely good execution, is how it ends up working so often despite him not always actually looking

    You mentioned how he should have many more assists. Well that has been sorted out this season. Manchester City sold Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, two very good players, but not on the level of Erling Haaland who replaced them two. He’s the best finisher in the world, thanked by his unbelievable positioning. He knows where and when the crosses will arrive and he’ll find himself waiting to tap home. Some people criticise him for that. But when I look at the amount of similar chances Sterling and Jesus had and missed, I can only praise him. He’s got 18 goals in 13 premier league games and 5 goals in 4 champions league games. Last season De Bruyne got 8 assists in 30 PL games, this season he’s already got 9 in 14. The best playmaker in the world + the best finisher in the world = a cheat code.
    Edit: the only player that I think challenges him for best finisher in the world is Mo Salah of Liverpool, the biased side of me wants to say Salah is better but this season his finishing hasn’t been as amazing as it has the last 5. Them are another two players I’d react to. Mo Salah - one season wonder (the name pokes fun at the people that labelled him that). And any Erling Haaland goal compilation will show you what I meant by his unbelievable positioning.

    He doesn't look when he passes because he even said he always knows what runs his teammates make that how good of a chemistry he has with them
    And with the curve passes that is a technique where you generate side spin on the ball causing it to move in a curved fashion

  • @jhonatannmercado7902
    @jhonatannmercado7902 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    the curve not depends on where do you hit the ball, it depends on which part of the foot you hit the ball with. you need to hit with the internal part of you foot to get that effect, its quite easy to learn how to do it, the impressive thing about KDB is the vision and accuracy when he is doing it

    • @Sebas-gb6if
      @Sebas-gb6if ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The other way is with the 3 fingers from the outside of your foot, you have to angle your foot in a certain way and hit the ball on the side opposite to where you want it to curve towards to. It is difficult tho but can give a stronger curve for passes like kdb’s

    • @Kyokahnn
      @Kyokahnn ปีที่แล้ว +3

      though yours is a practical explanation, it does end up depending MOSTLY on where you hit it and less so on the lateral friction of the motion. Certain parts of the foot are better at achieving certain effects

    • @winstoneouma5146
      @winstoneouma5146 ปีที่แล้ว

      You kinda wrap your foot around the ball when hitting. Then you gotta follow through, not just hit and retract the leg. The follow through dictates the accuracy and speed. Top freekick takers like Messi and Neymar use this technique too

  • @freeverse4304
    @freeverse4304 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Attacking mid/central mid is his position. He scores a lot because he might have the best technique in the world when it comes to long shots. He really just has world class ball skills in general, but long passes and long shots are where he is possibly number 1 right now. It also helps that both of his legs are cannons.

  • @dogcatdogable
    @dogcatdogable ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Football is a fluid sport, so 'perfect' passes/crosses are a convergence of one player putting the ball in the right area and the other making the right run. DeBruyne has incredible ball striking but he also benefits from the automatisms of Pep's system.

  • @hartshaped
    @hartshaped ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To curve a ball you generally have to catch the ball on it’s side and put spin on it. It’s much easier to do it accurately with the inside of the boot than the outside.
    What anyone that has played football will understand and appreciate probably more than anything else in the passes is the timing and getting the weight of the pass just right

  • @yoxyox6434
    @yoxyox6434 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    I wouldn't say that there is an element of luck, moreso practice. It may look like luck, but consider the fact that they train with each other every day for years, to the highest level and are at the pinnacle of the sport. So KDB can continually play passes into goalscoring areas, where he knows his teammates will be. Simply all he has to do is rely on them getting to that point to finish it off. You probably won't ever find videos of ALMOST passes, but there are many examples of greta passes that were unfortunately not completed becasue the teammates miss/don't get into the right space to receive it.
    ALSO, i recommend trying to attempt an outside foot pass when you play football next week like you mentioned. I noticed that you don't really distinguish the difference between an inside and outside foot pass/shot. Try it when you play, and you will realise just how insane some of these passes are as you realise they're doing it with the outside of their boot.
    keep up the videos man :)

  • @thedeadgame07
    @thedeadgame07 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    5:50 there's always an element of luck but mostly practice. And elite players don't look at their teammates when they make the passes. They look when their guys start the run, then they look down and pass it to the correct space (all practice here). If you keep looking too many times (unless you intentionally fake that look), you lose the surprise element. If a team is really well-drilled, everyone will know where to position and where to run. Then you need someone like KDB to see the run, see the space and make good passes to that space.

I've only ever seen one player like him in the history of Football and that's Zinedine Zidane who is my second best player of all time. KDB doesn't waste touches and while he's no Zissou in my book yet...he's something spectacular!

  • @carlosdslayer

  • @VillaFanDan92
    @VillaFanDan92 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You mention that he often doesn't look to see where the player he's passing to are. Basically that's just because he knows what areas to aim at to cause maximum disruption to the defense. And strikers love playing alongside a player like KDB because they know if they get themselves in those areas then they'll have loads of goalscoring opportunities.
    So the strikers will always bust a gut to get into those areas, and De Bruyne is crossing just expecting a player to be there. If he waited a second to look up and see the striker, then the chance would probably already have passed them by.
    It's one of those traits of a well coached and confident team.

    DeBruyne is one of those players that can easily be passed over... and often is when talking about the very best current players of the game! That sublime ability to reach and exceed expectations at the top tier of world football is personified in Kevin DeBruyne! He is an astonishingly gifted player who has never rested on talent alone either... his elite athletic level is more than obvious whilst his technical genius can often astound everyone across the football watching world! Amazing football player!
    You also noticed how powerful his striking of the ball is... combined with his almost unbelievable ability to place that ball exactly where, when & how he likes is often too brilliant to fully absorb Luke... astonishing abilities even for some of his team mates by the looks of it! Simply too precise to anticipate! 'Not a selfish bone in his body' either.... as they like to say! He can and often is a game winning player!
    This is isn't 'Art' this is 'Technical Drawing'... we need to be a little more precise regarding the brilliance of Kevin DeBruyne!
    Like the way you spot all this early on Luke... watching, as in not taking your eyes off... DeBruyne all the way through a game is highly recommended... especially with your in-built 'coaching eyes' Having probably tried curving and bending your passes you will now know just how ridiculoulsy difficult it is to perfect! Crack on Luke... I missed this one!

    Curving the ball has lots to do with what spot you hit the ball to put a spin on it, like in billiards or snooker. The key is to hit the ball off center, to right or left based on your foot. And which part of foot is also important.

    De Bruyne is the perfect modern playmaker, unmatched vision and passing range, incredible shooting technique and power, strong mentality and football iq, and on top of all that he never stops running, fantastic defensive work rate for an attacking midfielder, he can do everything.
    This is important, because most "classic" playmakers offered very little defensively, they were responsible for creativity and attacking so that's all they did, leaving other players to pick up their defensive slack. This led to the role falling out of favor, as most modern teams want every player on the field to press and contribute defensively. De Bruyne has shown that it is possible to do all of that running and defending whilst still being one of the most creative geniuses the game has ever seen. An incredibly complete skillset, and a player who I think will be recognized as the Premier League's best ever midfielder by the time he retires.

    It's about team play. When a team truly becomes a team, you instinctively know where your other teammates are, or should be, even without looking - and they know where they should , also instinctively - and based on playing together for a good while. I remember once, I just looked at one of my teammates, who was at the other end, and on the other side, of the field, and once our eyes met, he started running, and I passed it to him "in advance", so that the ball fell 20 meters away, but just where he ended up after he started running. We never talked, we never practiced this, but we understood each other - he knew me, and I knew what he would do / or had to do.
    This is why I would recommend this video of team plays, which illustrates what I am talking about - sort of under the microscope /watch?v=1o8C8n4XUwU

    One other thing that people who don't play the sport won't appreciate is that he is hitting both passes and long shots very well, not only with his right foot, but also with his left as well. The next time you kick a ball, try to do a shot or pass with the foot that you naturally use, then try to do the same thing with your weaker foot that you don't normally use. Then you will understand what I am talking about. It's kind of analogous to being able to write or throw just as well with both your right hand and your left. Very few people can do this.

    his vision and control are extraordinary. His passing accuracy is through the roof, he rarely loses a ball. And his long distance shots are brutal, more of a matter of accuracy than power. Backspin = hitting below the middle. Same for any curveball, just adjust the point of contact. Easier if you go on a pitch and try it out really.
    Players like KDB are rarer than top strikers, yet somehow worth less most of the time. Rare like Zidane or Dinho, though KDB was less notorious and is in the last few years of his career. This is actually my favorite type of player, they command the field, create opportunities that weren't visible to anyone else and build a cohesive team dynamic.

    To make the ball travel like that you have make it spin really quick, that will make the trajectory of the ball curve like that. One of the ways to do it is called "três dedos" or "trivela" here in Brazil, witch means "three fingers", that is when you kick the ball with the outside part of your feet (the last "three fingers") - altough you can do it with the inside part too, depending on where you are on the field, witch foot is your dominant foot, and where you want the ball to travel. Watch the second goal of Brazil v. Serbia this worldcup, where Vini Jr. pass the ball to Richarlison with this technique, on the replay they show a real close take of his foot and you can see how excatly he hit the ball. I believe that what KDB is doing, but I think he does it with the inside part of his foot too.

    KDB is a great passer. His vision and execution is one of the best in the world atm. Similar passing type to Trent Alexandre-Arnold for Liverpool and Pogba (but he's more inconsistent).
    Disguised passes are also a pleasure to watch - someone like Ozil is a good player to watch for those types of passes.
    Watch Odegaard aswell, he's another creative player.

    You are looking for a lot of the best attacking plays and players, but since you look like you watch the game, you should react to what some of the best defending looks like, maybe see some defense compilations, or even the best saves of some goalkeppers like Buffon or manuel neuer. You will surely enjoy it

    When you place the ball behind the defense as he does so well, it's almost not possible to defend against it.

    Like a quarterback but with feet - left and right!
    To curve the ball you need to hit it on the right spot with the right force but the thing is, that spot and force changes depending on the distance the ball needs to travel and the medium it needs to travel on (air or grass). You also need to compensate for wind and density/humidity of the pitch.
    There’s no American sport that requires the same level of sheer skill, coordination, speed and endurance in my opinion:
    - You need Track & Field levels of sprinting speed.
    - The balance and strength of a gymnast.
    - the coordination skills of a circus juggler.
    - the endurance of a triathlete. The average pro player runs 90 minutes non stop with just a 15 minute break at half time and covers an average of 7 miles of running per game,
    It’s great to see Americans finally understanding football.

    It's actually really easy to make a ball curve. The hard bit is making it go where you want it to go, and with enough speed behind it.
    All you do is put some spin on the ball. Hit it with the inside of your right foot, and it'll curve left.

    If you never kicked a ball before, it will most likely spin and curve on your first attempt. Making the ball curve is way easier than you think. The hard thing is hit the target. Even if you practice and become a master on controlling the ball trajectory, the passing skill is not all about it. The hardest thing is having the vision, the perception, the intelligence, the fast thinking, speed, strength and stamina to be accurate the whole game. This game is much more about the intelligence than people realize.

    Yea, KDB is one of the most valuable player nowadays. You were mentioning, whether it is luck or done on purpose to place the ball right where the striker is.
    It's not. A player who takes the cross usually puts it in an open zone, and a striker's job is to be there to finish it. That's it. On the highest level of football these things are done instinctively.
    The other thing is accuracy of your passes or shooting. That's just thousands of hours of practice. Curves or stuff become second nature when you work with the ball thatuch time. That's from personal experience.

    to curve a football is just about the way you hit the ball. We don't hit the the center of the ball in the same way every time. Each type of efect on the ball requires a diferent type of hit
