Kevin de Bruyne is what we call a intelligent player. He just knows where and when his teammates will be even before he receives the ball. Add that to insane passing technique and destructive shootingpower and it makes him one of the best if not the best Attacking midfielder in football this day. The only thing he might be “lacking” is pace, but he makes up for that with positioning and vision. To be honest he ain’t even that slow.
have you even heard his teammates talk about his pace? they all say you can hardly catch him when he is running WITH the ball. so do not say he lacks speed just because he looks slow does not mean he is slow.. :D

Btw, the reason he sometimes doesn’t look when he crosses the ball is because he knows where the team mate is gonna be because certain scenarios are drilled, but of course his vision is second to none and most passing scenarios he has to look
And even when he knows where his teammates gonna be he is insanely precise when it comes to throw those passes. Most of the players that see their teammates cant throw such beauties. Ridiculous precision.

we dont run plays its just that you learn the game, you know where everybody should be and specially if you play on a team and learn your teammates habits
Yes depending on where you hit the ball it will curve differently. If you kick it on the right side it will spin to the left, if you kick it on the left side it'll curve to the right. If you hit it dead-center it won't spin at all, which is called a knuckleball. Ofcourse it's more detailed and complex than that, you need insane precision with your foot to give the ball exactly the right amount of spin and also not hit it to weak or to strong. Having the vision to see the pass under pressure and then getting all of that right inside less then a second is extremely hard and de Bruyne is an absolute master at it.
His passing is so good that even sometimes his own team mates are surprised when he's able to find them in midst of all the defenders. Strikers will love playing with him cause he will create so many chances for them
the best skill of KDB is the vision , he is a manager of the game, like a QB he knows where the teammates should be there, and imagine the pass before the receptor draw it
You don't see it so much in this video, because most of the clips start after he's already recieved the ball, but If you watch closely players tend to look over their shoulder just before recieving the ball. This is called scanning, and it's basically just analyzing the position of the players and where the space is so they know what to do when they get the ball. They do all of this in a split second, and the top players do this about 7 times in the 10 seconds before they recieve the ball. At 5:36, 9:43, 16:47, 16:55 etc. you can see him do this just before he calls for the ball.
If you watch a Barcelona Tiki Taka video or any Barca game from 2008 and onwards, you will see all of the players scanning the pitch pretty much every second for 90 minutes. This is what made their passing and understanding look so effortless

Yeah he practises these passing scenarios over and over under arguably the best football coach ever pep guardiola who always managed prime Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Not only does he practise these passes but the attacking runners also practise the movement to open spaces and De Bruyne has to see the pass and time it perfectly to create these goals
I still have Ferguson over Pep, but KDB is the Best there is and when he is done he will likely be an All time great.

15:20 this one.....this one is special because it has back spin, he manages to hold the ball up and roll it in the path of his team mate, yet he has t hit it hard enough to beat the defence, its SO close to going out of play, but the back spin holds the ball at the last second, amazing (this is done by hitting the ball with a "chip" type motion, a bit like when a golfer uses a Wedge to get out of a bunker)
This guy is world class, rarely makes a mistake with or without the ball. Technically gifted, strong and intelligent. Can't ask for more!

The key to having a player like De Bruyne, Mesut Ozil, Marc Overmars, Luka Modric etc on your team, is knowing that when they are in the final third...you need to target runs at the top of the six yard box front, center and back. Also have someone on the penalty spot. These playmakers have perfected their range and without looking will put the ball on one of these spots to make the play happen. That's how you can see the slides/sprints to get into place as soon as he goes to play the ball.
/quick edit - that list is longer than stated but still very exclusive. You could stick Iniesta, Xavi, Di Maria, Sneijder....the list goes on but every name you see will be someone revered as absolutely world class.

Football actually has a lot of different formations the most common is a 4-4-2 of 4-3-3 formation. It’s quite a lot to explain in a commemt. I’d recommend to watch a video about it. There are some great ones on TH-cam.

There are a ton of spots of your foot that the ball can get hit from. Different techniques can cause the ball the spin clockwise or unclockwise. A lot of players finesse the ball which is a curve inward when striking the ball. All players practice different ways to implement on how they pass or shoot
You guys should check out Andrea Pirlo, he’s my personal favorite and he was never the fastest, strongest, or biggest guy on the pitch, he was just pure technique.

Pirlo was amazing. Deep lying playmaker. He was always in space. he did a LOT of simple defnsive passing to creat space for an attacker, and when that came he would just give them the ball on a platter... His long passing was out of this world, he could move the game from one side of the pitch to another with one pass. Amazing technique for days. He played a different midfield role than De Bruyne (He played Defensive deeplying playmaker role whereas the De Bruyne has a Attacking Midfielder role) but he is just as if not more brilliant. I would heartily recommend watching some of his stuff.
I play soccer and tbh sometimes it’s just in Instinct. Not saying we don’t practice specific drills and plays . Just like basketball or American football 100’s of reps will cuz muscle. Stay doing y’all thing 💪🏾💪🏾
It's just natural talent combined with practice. I've been following his career since 2009 back when he played in Belgium. He always had something special but he sertainly improved on his talent. 10:15 it’s vision, technique, weight of pass and ball manipulation. You always see before he receives the ball that he looks up to see everything around him. Having vision is good but the quality of being able to pull of the defence splitting pass over and over, that’s talent and a lot of years of playmaking
De Bruyne has sick feets! And most passes are aimed to a specific player. But of course some of his passes he just try to find the right "zone" in the penaltybox with the pass.Thats why he doesnt need to look or aim at his teammates.

It's like a baseball laces all the stitching for the panels creates negative pressure hence a perfectly square shot ball creates no spin and knuckles like a knuckleball in baseball. Lift and spin is generated like a q-ball, think of your foot or any other part of your body as the pool stick. If you know formations and how they interact you see openings on the fly. The ball is like an extension of your mind, you don't think about it. You know how much it will spin, Loft, roll, or how much distance just from doing it for 15+ years. Same as shooting a basketball, you don't really think about it. The beauty of football is that you have much more space, you can use more body parts, the ball is lighter,there are tons of ways to beat opponents, or defend them... When you get a team full of guys who work well together it becomes very artistic. Hence the beautiful game. The physicality and edurane just add to the difficulty. There are lots of formations but generally a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 (defenders to forwards) and variations of them creat mini triangles, that's how tiki taka works and why you watch them always warm up with a man in the middle type game.

U guys defo gotta watch a vid on the positions and formations, there's a lot of different formations, midfielders will generally be good passers like this, defenders is obvious, and forwards (strikers/wingers) are usually good at finishing and dribbling, midfielders r kinda more complex tho as u can have defensive minded midfielders who would be strong, good tacklers while also good passers and even long range shooters, then u can have attacking minded midfielders who would be better at dribbling, passing, and shooting

Kdb is so intelligent that he rarely trains anymore, he usually just watches hours and hours of gameplay footage and just keeps fit which is why he knows his team mates so well
Kevin debruyne is probably the best center attacking midfielder in the world in my opinion. His vision, pass, shooting, and even defending is top tier. He never makes mistakes and doesn’t do u necessary dribbling.

Yes Mookie is right.....there are specific ways to kick the ball to put different types of spins on it which the elites like kevin have mastered.....that's also how the ball be curling in the air when they take a free kick.........it takes a lot of skill to kick it that perfectly with the right amount a spin and right amount of power to pinpoint a teammate like how kevin does though
yeah as a creative midfield, a lot of it is down to knowing where your team mates will be, passing the ball into the right areas, being patient and having great technique! you should react to all the goals in the 2018 world cup! Youll enjoy that one.

KDB keeps it simple, that is the genius of his game. And it comes from EXTENSIVE, continues training to the point where he can accurately predict the next movement of 5+ players at the same time. Look at the body language of the defenders and the goalkeepers. You'll see many of them freeze/pause because what they where about to do next has already been negated and they are going through a mental "oh sh*t, now what?!" moment. KDB is by far one of the best players of his generation...this is from a United supporter BTW.
He read the games so much and this shit take a lot practice and he also watch the defenders movement and positions 🙌🏾
Just so you guys understand football is so quick. What you see on these highlight videos is usually slowed a bit, but in real life time everything is happening so quick & physical so these guys have to make decisions & have vision of what they’re going to do before they even get the ball. & not to mention the ball isn’t light. It’s a pretty heavy ball & you must have different techniques depending on how you want to make a pass or shot. So many ways. All this is what makes these players world class. The Precision, the speed, the control of the ball, the physical strength, agility, vision, weight of the ball, & the skills. All this is practiced throughout the week. & these guys don’t rest. They play sometimes 3 times per week & practice everyday. These are extremely overworked world class athletes that grew up as kids living & breathing football fighting to one day make it pro & they do it out of passion & love for their teams, nation, & cities. Latin America from Mexico all the way down to Argentina & all of Europe, & Africa . These players are among the best of the world & the passion they play with & how overworked they are. If you think about it, it’s insane how high their performance level is. World class to be exact. A special & unique sport that takes legs & feet to play. Not something to take lightly. Having skill with hands is one thing but with your feet, it’s pretty amazing. These skills are learnt as young as 4 yrs of age & they continue to learn throughout their whole life. Many teams having academy’s and having divisions of all ages. Messi joined Newells in Argentina at the age of 6. & Barcelona transferring him at the age of 13. Football is a whole world or government itself. Pretty crazy

He has practiced his passing technique a lot, he is also reading the field and also has natural vision on the pitch, so all of the above, The curve he gets is all spin, but Mooki is kinda right he knows if he uses a certain part of his foot, the natural path of the ball will find the team mate, so its also him knowing and understanding how that works to a crazy level.
Inside of the foot(arch/instep) striking the ball, if you use your right foot it will curve to the left, if you use left foot it will curve to the right (see 14:23 as an example he used the inside of his Right foot so the ball curves left)
Outside of the Foot striking the ball if you use the Right foot it will curve right and the left foot will curve left (see 07:36 as an example he uses the outside of his right foot, so the ball curves right)
**There are a couple of techniques which actually do the opposite of this, but they are super advanced so much so that you rarely see even the best pro's use them, so 99% of the time my description above is correct, and is the way you picture the mechanics of it

Some of those passes are like curving and bending like pool shots. Hours of technique practicing that english. Think about practicing spins on bank shots in BBall. Players also "fill lanes" just like they do on fast breaks in Bball. Personally, I am always amazed as his "carpet cutter" shots - very difficult for a goalie. And his vision is among the best - you are right, makes the players around him much better.
It’s more like a game of real-life chess. You try to work out where your opponents are likely to move next and, therefore, where you’re best to move or pass to. The only thing is, you’ve got to do it in like half a second.
It’s also worth noting how comfortable and accurate he is with both feet.
With passing like his, he is able to visually imagine where his teammates are going to be in 3/4 seconds time when they’re 40 yards away so he can pass the ball to that spot, rather than where they are when he first thinks about it. The spatial awareness is unreal. You’ll have to look at David Beckhams passing if you like accuracy like this!
Kevin de Bruyne and all other midfielders practice free kicks and passing all the time 👍 Manchester city there team where he plays got a lot of great players. And I'm a fellow Belgium i like seeing him play but when Rüdiger and him had a accident last year he needed to get back and find his groove 😔 every team takes a formation what they think would be great for the opponent. They don't play the same formation every time 👍
You can't practice game vision, not to his level.
Either you have it or not and there's a reason why De Bruyne and his kind are so much sought after. His passing skills are phenomenal and he's currently the best midfielder at the moment, for me. Training drills help to know where your teammates are going to run, but there's always a big part of improvisation and well, vision.
You have to understand that it all happens very, very fast, especially at this level, and that you're under pressure from the defenders. To see a (future) gap in the defense, predict the next move of your teammate and consequently time/weigh your pass is really tough, not everyone can do it.
Spinning the ball isn't that difficult, any player (even beginners) can do it... to an extent. Making a cross, a through pass or taking a shot from (+) 20 yards with the right amount of spin are a whole other matter. Easy to learn but very hard to master. If you 'slice' the left side of the ball with the outside of your (right) foot, it will spin to the right, just like that insane pass at 7:38. If you slice the right side of the ball with the inside of your right foot, it will spin to the left.
Spinning the ball is a very important feature in football. As you saw it in the video, it helps to get past defenders in case of a cross or a pass and past the goalkeeper in case of a free kick or a shot.
If you want other playmakers to react to: Xavi (FC Barcelona), Andreas Pirlo (Juventus), Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal), Michael Laudrup (Barca, Real Madrid). All retired, but like De Bruyne, masters of passing.

Kevin is such a Class player, its become so easy and an natural instinctive way he plays. Another player that is similar is Trent Alexander Arnold if you haven't seen him. I also love how you question how these players do this and the way you react to some of these clips and then break it down sometimes. It really show you understand the art of this sport. Passing without looking is due to something called “scanning”. Before receiving the ball and whenever the player isn’t about to take a touch, he scans his surroundings to spot out teammates and react faster.

The spin is made when he passes the ball. if he kicks it with his right foot, then he can hit the ball with the outside of his foot to spin the ball clockwise and rotate to the right on those curved passes. He can use the inside of his right foot to create an opposite spin and curve left if he was passing that way. and of course, he can do this with the left foot as well, just reverse the directions

In football they don’t have plays like in American sport but teams play systems that ask the players to make certain runs in certain situations. So in those curling crosses to the back post he knows when the ball is passed to him that someone should be making that run in that situation. His execution of that pass is the best in the world

I feel like people with backround in playing basketball or watching a lot of NBA have a lot more appreciation for the skills, smart plays and passes in football. Vice versa with football fans who watch basketball, they just might not be up on all the norms and rules of the game

Man city happen to be the most interchangeable team in the world I’d say, their attackers can be amazing in any role and this is possible because they have one of the top 2 managers in the world aka Pep Guardiola. He has coached them to such a level that kevin knows where his teammates should and will be and they know his capabilities.
A lot of good shots/goals and passes come from Ball IQ + Technical talent (like how much power you can hit the ball with, how much curve you can put on it) you can practice to get better at these but for some it’s easier than others

Yes there are formations in football but there are also tactics. With a lot of training and play styles, players learn their teammates movements and what not. So it looks like it’s effortless for them.
What is crazy is that he gives these pinpoint passes with both feet. Some players can barely shoot with their weak foot, KdB just does it effortlessly.
