I wish I could; I'm dying to play in a tournament. But I'm several states west and can't arrange it in the allotted time. Next time there's a convention near the west coast, I'll jump at the chance.
This channel single-handedly reignited my interest in this iconic game. I’ve had the 2004 Revised sitting on the shelf gathering dust for almost 20 years. Now my son is getting close to the age where I first fell in love with A&A, and I’ve pulled the trigger and ordered Anniversary Edition. When the giant box shows up this week and my wife asks who is responsible for this, I will direct her to your channel Gary. You’re on your own after that. 😅
This has always been my favorite version of Axis & Allies. Yes, the box is huge. I bought this game back in 2008 when it was made by Wizards of the Coast. They sold out quickly and within a year an unopened box could easily cost you $500 or more because it was out of print. Glad to hear that it is finally back in print. Everything does indeed look identical to my well-worn copy. I ended up making my own custom-made storage compartments so that each playing piece had its own compartment. I don't get around to playing A&A much anymore, but I do enjoy vicariously watching you and others play on TH-cam. Thanks for the unboxing and looking forward to your next video.
We are excited about seeing this game back in action, as well. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
There was ANOTHER reprinting of Anniversary in the early 2010s.. maybe 2012 or so... i know cuz I missed out on the 2008 version, knew it was like $500 for awhile, but bought it new on Amazon for regular price long before this version came out when it was in reprint.
@@BoardGameNation Personally, I'd say a chance to play a game with you in some way, or some sort of BGN swag, especially stuff like game aids or even alternate versions of A&A game pieces could be cool!
@@dragonsgreedgaming13 - Oooo... a game against me is a really interesting idea! I have been thinking about a "Gary & Doug versus the World" game, but I haven't been able to sort out the best way to manage it. You might have just solved that for me. Top tier members volunteer to play against us. We do a random draw of three of them and set the game up as a live stream. They can talk to each other and the audience through the live chat while Doug and I are can only talk to each other. Tournament rules with time limits to keep it watchable. That sounds like fun! Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!
Yeah I think big A&A Fans would get s kick out of playing against world Champs. Plus with all your knowledge, maybe some sort of training or coaching series could work too.
Oh... OH YEAH! Let's go, i'm so excited for these tourneys! Been hoping you'd put more of that style video out soon! Diplomacy is a long-time favorite of mine!
@@BoardGameNation I think a monthly Live Stream playing a tournament game and showcasing some strategies might be really interesting! I realize that might be hard to schedule all the parts for, though. Other than that, some custom emoji for the different games you feature on this channel might be fun :)

Thank you very much! So much is happening, I'm just trying to keep from losing my hair ... Oops! Too late! Btw, the Anniversary Edition isn't a reprint of the 1984 game. It is a different version of Axis and Allies with loads of cool features. Definitely worth checking out! Thanks for the support!
I played the original for hours on end when I was in the service while deployed to Saudia Arabia and Kuwait. Hours melted away as we all played as arm chair general!
Fantastic! Happy to help! Any chance you used our affiliate link? Not a big deal. We just like to have an idea of whether or not folks are thinking about it.
I understand. It's not a problem. I am curious. Did you click on our link, visit the Renegade site, and then price check it and purchase it from Amazon? I appreciate your willingness to help us understand your buying process.
I've owned this game for a long time. And still enjoy watching an unboxing. I don't exclusively play war games. But this is my favorite game of all time.
I love Axis and Allies, but I've only ever played it with friends using their copies of the game. I think it's finally time for me to get a copy of my own! Thanks for sharing this unboxing video, and can't wait to follow the championship this year.
I just got my copy of Anniversary the day this video came out. I punched everything out and I like the feel of the game. It feels much closer to the classic edition I grew up on and still have on my shelf. I say it is similar due to the fact there are plastic factories, you can capture the AA guns, tanks are only 5 IPCs, there is paper money again and there isn't a complex in India. Your videos have rekindled a love for A&A. I've been able to find friends to play with/teach the game around the Chicago area. I taught some friends 1942 second and played Europe and Pacific with another seasoned player. We'll take on global Labor Day weekend. I've also started teaching my sons to play 1941 with me and they love it even at ages 7 and 8. I would suggest a membership would to help people find others to play with. Another cool option would be to do a zoom type call where you could chat about Axis and Allies strategy and ideas or to have a forum where people could chat about ideas.
That is fantastic!! I am glad that you have made your way back into the game and found folks to play with. Chicago has lots of great A&A players. We are working on Find-a-Player Project, but it is a big undertaking. If you would like to sign up, you can follow this link: bit.ly/Find-a-Player Thank you for your feedback regarding the membership plans! Ramping up the Find-a-Player project is high on our list. We will be hosting regular Member Only live streams that "Citizens of Board Game Nation" can join to talk A&A with the top players in the game. Thanks for watching and keep the ideas coming!
9:50 Hooray! I have little interest in playing A&A by myself (Grand Strategy isn't my Cup of team), but watching it with the commentary was mesmerizing, so I'm looking forward of seeing more commented competitive A&A!
I'm an old Gen-Xer who has played nearly every version since the Blue Box in the 1980s. I currently have the "somewhat" recent versions of 1941/1942 and Anniversary Editions from the early 2000s/2010? printings (I may be off a few years), and I have TONS of additional units (I bought more of everything, tanks/planes/ships, etc) I have custom trays for each nation, poker chip IPCs, custom vinyl maps, custom dice... EVERYTHING... the ONLY problem I have with this game... is I have no other human to play it with in my hometown of Pensacola... a great game with tons of add-ons that just sits in my game closet collecting dust... nobody wants to play anything anymore unless it's on a computer or console... sigh.
We are working to help with that very issue. We are developing a Find-a-Player project that will help people connect with others looking to play various games, including A&A. If you are interested, sign up here: bit.ly/Find-a-Player Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation I love your videos! Tbh mate. I'll support regardless of the member exclusive benefits. I just want to support whatever you guys are doing! Amazing job! A&A global could be nice!
You are very kind. Thank you! We will be capturing the final of the Global tournament this year at Gen Con. It is going to be a beast to put together, but I think we are ready! Thanks for the support!
It will definitely be more than one video. We will have to see how the actual game turns out, but I am think at least three or four parts. I have been working on the planning for Gen Con for the past few days. My estimate for the amount of data storage that will be required to capture all the events on our list is just over 5 TB. The Global final alone is expected to be 880GB of video!
I’ve had this edition for about 2 years now, and it’s really fun. One memory I have is turning little Italy into a world superpower. I actually ran out of Italy pieces because I made Italy so strong, so I used research tokens 😂
Anniversary is my favorite A&A, even more than A&A&Zombies. The games where little Italy goes off and becomes a game-influencing behemoth still feels like one of the most fresh and exciting things that can happen in any A&A game.
@@BoardGameNation I'd like to see some sort of game review where a member's game can be analyzed and critiqued. And as this is Board Game Nation and not Axia and Allies Nation, adding some more depth to other strategy games would be great as well.
I was really waiting for this video. Thanks!!! Looking foward for the tournament. I hope you have a great time there. Thank you again for your time bring us a great work.
We are excited, too! Lots of work ahead, but it should be fun. Thanks for the encouragement! Any thoughts about what you might like to see in a BGN Membership plan?
@@BoardGameNation lots of folks would suggest content, early access, etc., but I'd just love to find verified folks to game with in my area. Maybe there can be a member's club and we could schedule events/games? I'm in the Seattle area and don't have anyone to play with currently, so a way to find them would be welcome. @@BoardGameNation the art on the box looks almost identical to mine, does that signify which one I have. It's in storage right now but yours looks like mine, I inherited 😂 it from a friend in the 90s and it was several years old then
@@highlandergunn9240 - You might have an earlier copy of this version of the game, but I doubt it was from the 90's. I think the earliest version of this game came out in 2008. Here is a good place to double check: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_%26_Allies
France? "Little Country"? Doesn't France have the largest land mass of any EU nation? Still, you are probably right. I have never seen a version of any A&A translated into French. :)
I agree that this is the best all around version of the game. I got this on pre-order as well!! It's still in the plastic. I am not opening it until I have a game to play.
Man, I wish I could get this in Poland. I gifted my copy of this to my best friend (and fellow A&A buddy) when we moved overseas. We had some great games with this edition. I would actually pay the disgustingly expensive shipping costs is Renegade would ship to Warsaw.
Yeah, call me spoiled, but I upgraded from Anniversary to Global. Now the map, a bit over 6' long, covers my dining room table (single, so I don't have to hear about it). I now have pieces from my original 42, and Anniversary, and the Global, so I don't run out of anything. I think the best thing about Anniversary is the paper cash. Although I use the IPC markers to record current levels, the cash makes it easy to carry over unspent IPC without having to use pencil & paper. Contrary to popular opinion, the Italians can be a significant force.
Fair enough. Personally, I don't think of Global as an "upgrade", more of a different version. I like that A&A has versions for the mood, number and level of players, and available playtime. The paper IPCs are cool, but I prefer poker chips table side for games I am not recording. Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan? Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Valid point. Anniversary = 4 hours. Global = All day. Or 4 days (intermittently) at home. I'll go look at BGN website to see what I think about membership. Unfortunately I live in a hick town in the desert, so I don't think a gamer list will be much help for me; there's not much prospect here. I drive an hour to set up games with younger guys.
We have not set up the memberships yet. We are gathering feedback about what people want in it... in hopes of not wasting everyone's time. We are also hoping to use the revenue to ramp up our Find-a-Player project. We have about 500 people sign up for it now, which is great, but we need to add some automation and safeguards to really get it moving. What is the name of your city? I can see if we have anyone within 100 miles that has signed up.
@@BoardGameNation Yerington, Nevada, isn't quite most people's idea of a "city". But I'm within an hour of Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, or Gardnerville. A&A, Panzer Blitz/Leader, MBT/IDF, or Magic.
It looks pretty cool, but would have suggested that the nation markers backing be a different color than the containers. Very awesome use of space though.
Just ordered this myself. I'm most interested in the 1941 scenario, just to occasionally change up from the 1942 2nd edition game. Standard 1941 just seems too...simple.
Both are fun, but I have been focused on the 1942 setup as we get ready for the World Championships this year. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
And again, not a single battleship for the Soviets, despite the fact that they actually had some. While Marat (formerly Petropavlovsk) was heavily damaged by air strikes at the very beginning of the German invasion and was used as a floating battery for Leningrad, Parizhskaya Kommuna (formerly Sevastopol) conducted operations in the Black Sea until March 1942.
It is hard to imagine any tabletop board game being 100% historical accurate, but I think overall, this game does a really good job. Thanks for watching!
Did not enjoy Spring 1942 second edition, but anniversary is awesome. Adding Italy as a playable nation, adjusting some of the janky sea zones, adding territories in China and giving the US player more to do over there early game, and making Australia a single territory again worth 2IPCs, were all great changes.
I enjoy them both and I agree with all the changes you pointed out. However, I think I would like to have seen the IC in India remain in the Anniversary Edition. Without it, I think it is too easy for Japan to capture early in the game. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN Membership Plan?
Haha! Well, the box says "2", which is probably 2 too many. 😂😂😂 Thank for watching! Any thoughts about what you might like to see in a BGN Membership plan?
Love my copy, I will say, though, I miss the dividers the VERY old versions of the game had. I had to go to etsy and buy some fancier ones cause I like each unit to have a home :D
@@BoardGameNation hmmm not sure, would we confine things to digital, because some like random drawings for winning minatures or something would be neat. I just reuped my heroforged sub, so I have minis on the mind :D
I love it! We can definitely make that happen! Maybe we can get some products or gift certificates from some of the mini sellers. :) Thanks for the feedback!
I see North Africa hiding in the back and I'm excited! Anything coming up on that, or is that classified? Also, do you know when those who preordered will get it?

@@BoardGameNation Just a thought, maybe having a lottery where a member or two win a ticket or pass, not sure how they do it, to a Gen Con. They probably are sold out for this year, so maybe next year.
I like it! We can absolutely make that happen! I still have my copy of War Room and the Jumbo Pack Expansion. I am guessing that somebody out there would love to add it to their collection! :) Thanks for the suggestion!
I do like this version but it does heavily favor the axis. To even this out in our games we give allies 12ipc bonus at the start and also allow allies to receive NO's but not the axis. These changes really make the games a lot tighter.
Interesting. I'll be sure to watch the bidding closely at the World Championships this year. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
I think you need to be specific about what version you are playing. A 1942 start without national objectives results in a bid for the axis in tournament play.
Typically, I don't think of a strategy for each nation. I think of them as Allied or Axis strategies. After we get passed the North Africa how-to-play (this game is awesome, but is really deep), we will look at putting out more videos in that vein. Thanks for your feedback! Keep it coming!
That's a good question. I don't think a consensus has been determined. I have seen tournament games right next to each other bid +6 the Axis, while the other was +6 to the Axis. This is something we will be watching closely at Gen Con this year. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?

They are pretty different, but if I had to pick just one... I would pick up the Anniversary Edition. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts about what you might like to see in a BGN Membership plan?
Removing the color for japan in manchuria is weird where Germany has Europe in its color even if they are just minor allies. Manchuria and corea were official japanese country
The new colors for Manchuria and Kiangsu correctly reflect that they are originally Chinese territories that start the game occupied by the Japanese. When they were colored orange, it made some folks think that in the rare case those territories were captured by Italy or Germany that the income would go to Tokyo rather than Berlin or Rome. With the new colors, the original owner is more clear. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
This could be an artifact of the video playback but are Japanese units really the same color as the red in the A&A logo? That's how the appear to my old eyes.
I don't think so. They are the standard orange color. I will take another look at the video as see if I can see what you are seeing. Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see offered in a BGN Membership plan?
I would have to say the Axis and Allies 1941 is probably the closest to the original in terms of rules. This is the smallest and simplest currently available version of the game. However, if you have played the Classic from 1984, I would suggest 1942 Second Edition over 1941. It is a better, more engaging game that is more suited to experience table top game players. You can find all the currently available A&A games by following this link: renegadegamestudios.com/?rfsn=7712737.76eff9 Thanks for watching!
Anniversary is limited to 6 hour of play time. The time with the most Victory Cities at the end of that time is the winner! The tournament rules are listed in the description. Thanks for watching!
one of the things that always griped me a bit about tournament rule is the lack of impact Industrial Capacity has, the game just does not run long enough for it to really be worth it usually, the new change where they dont have AA defense AND AA guns can be captured, it seems to make it even less viable, or, as the current world champion, do you have another take on it? do you have any idea how to make Industrial Capacity matter more in a tournament game?
That is an interesting question. I guess I would say that the Allies start with more money and the Axis start with more stuff. So, where the Allies decide to pour those resources and how the Axis use their starting material advantage is really the core of the game. I think the Anniversary Edition does a really nice job of balancing those two dynamics well. The biggest difference in this version compared to others in this area is the lack of an Industrial Complex in India or Australia. If the UK can't build units in the first round, it makes it a very tempting target for the Japanese. Also, the lack of any kind of ANZAC navy units means that Japan is going to be dominant in the Pacific for the first few rounds. It should be interesting to see how all the players navigate that at Gen Con this year! I hope you will tune in for our coverage of those events! Thanks for watching!
I have the 2017 re release of this game which I got in mid 2019, this is without doubt the best version of Axis and Allies in my opinion, can I ask what might seem a silly question, what is Hasbro's role in the Axis and Allies series, as I often see their logo on the box of the games, even though it is published by Renegade Game Studios?
I agree with you. This is probably the best version of the game. Hasbro bought up the companies that created Axis and Allies. So, they own the game. Renegade licenses the rights in order to reprint old games and develop new games under that title. Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation I'm guessing the A&A printed money for this game, is the same paper they use to print Monopoly money, I currently have all of the previous versions of the Axis & Allies that are now reprinted by Renegade, meaning I have the ones printed by Avalon Hills, is there anything I'm missing from the new versions or are they just straight out reprints with nothing new?
Other than the corrections I mentioned in the video, this is a reprint of the previous Anniversary Editions. It does have the paper IPCs, but I prefer poker chips for casual play. Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Thanks for the information, I'll back looking to add Axis & Allies NorthAfrica to my collection when it comes out in Europe and the UK, which Is where I live and from.🙂
Gary, thank you for the update. Any idea where I can find a "complete" klist of Axis & Allies. For example, this 40th Anniversary edition is a remake of the A&A 1941, correct?

I love the idea of a jigsaw cut on the board, but some people like the one-sided tokens. They use them to mark the locations of combats. Thanks for watching!

That's a good question. I'm not 100% sure. In the past, the Anniversary Edition has only been available as a limited run, but i don't know what Renegade is planning for this round. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. I played a lot in the late 80’s and 90’s, and I don’t see myself playing a different version of the game. The game felt perfect as it was originally, any changes to the game feels to me like an easy money grab attempt.
Why is it missing the tech boosts you could buy dice and roll for.....is the 1986 Milton Bradley version the only version that has this? I thought that was a great part of the game, felt like things evolved as the game progressed.
I’m genuinely curious why Hitler is never depicted on A&A boxes for any editions, alongside the other major leaders of the various powers. Guess he wasn’t very important during this war.
Axis and Allies tries to thread the very narrow needle of creating a World War II game with rich detail without being political in any way. As such, the images in the games are typically soldiers or generals rather than the political leaders of the time. Plus, Hitler was an evil mass-mudering bastard and no one in their right mind would want to sit and play a game where you're trying to further his goals or those of his party. The same could be said for Stalin, not to mention the Japanese atrocities in China. This is a strategy game set in a WWII theater. In my opinion, it is best kept in that context. Thanks for watching!
Oh thank God, you're such a good person to say that, it must feel good knowing you're such a good person, FINALLY someone is coming out against Hitler!
A bit disappointing the National Objectives aren't used in TP. They really change how the game is played & add a more thematic feel. Like all things in life: time is king.
I wish Renegade games had made a few changes to make the game better instead of it just being a reprint. 5 IPC tanks are too good, and India could use an IC at the start.
That might happen, but I think they are trying to go through the current back catalog. Plus, North Africa is coming out soon. We are working on the how-to-play video for that game and I tell you it is a very different game. Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan? Thanks for watching!

@@BoardGameNation Hi, thank you for the reply. After perusing Renegade's website a bit more, I discovered they have a UK webstore outlet. I was able to pre-order the game from there. Apparently stock has not arrive here in the UK yet. It's a good question about Membership. I'm on and off about Axis and Allies because my friends don't play it --for them, it's too much of a game/not simulation to be considered a wargame. For example, we are playing Axis Empires, Ultimate Edition for our Global WW2 fix. I don't concur but also don't have opponents. Maybe an opponent finding system for online play or get together play with locals who like the game? I wonder if Axis and Allies online will have a version for the Anniversary Edition... Great! Thank you! We look forward to having you as a "Citizen"! Here is the link to join the Find-a-Player Project: bit.ly/Find-a-Player As for the price of Tanks... I would not change it in any other version of the game. The lower price of Tanks makes the German Tank blitz really over powered. This would be especially in 1942.2. Thanks for the feedback! Well, I'm not sure I have good news for you. Beamdog got sold a couple of years ago and the new outfit doesn't seem all that interested in doing anything with the franchise. So, I doubt they will be making any kind of Anniversary online version. I would love it if they did! Thanks for dropping by! Any suggestions for the new BGN Membership plan?
This anniversary edition is now on its third printing and has been around for years now. Beamdog could have added this edition to the digital game but they stuck with 1942 2nd edition as the middle of the road game in the series. So, this is not some brand new version of the game. 1942 2nd edition is still the latest version of the original Axis & Allies and Renegade just reprinted it as is, only with typo adjustments and no rules changes.
True on all counts. I know a lot of folks were hoping that Beamdog would continue their development efforts (including me) and build out Anniversary and Global, but unfortunately, that seems unlikely at this point. Maybe someone else will pick up the A&A Online mantel and push forward. The community seems robust enough to make it financially viable, but we will see. Thanks for watching!
Well, in this version, each power has optional national objectives. That is also true in the Global games. The new GIJOE game has special abilities for each power. Is there something specific you wanted to know about?

That isn't a feature in any of the A&A games I'm familiar with. However, there is a variant called BBR that has mobile Russian factories as an option. That's all I can think of at the moment.
I believe that edition you're thinking of is Axis and Allies Revised. There is a PDF of the tournament rules floating around by Larry Harris that also feature updated versions of them also.
It looks like the Danish island of Sealand has been given the sane color as nearby neutral Sweden. Dissapointing considering that they have had 40 years to correct the mistake...

That's very kind... I think! 🤔
🤣🤣🤣

There was ANOTHER reprinting of Anniversary in the early 2010s.. maybe 2012 or so... i know cuz I missed out on the 2008 version, knew it was like $500 for awhile, but bought it new on Amazon for regular price long before this version came out when it was in reprint.

Old AH gamer, first time I have seen your channel and amazed
Welcome! Glad you found us. We have lots more on the way!
If you would like to sign up, you can follow this link: bit.ly/Find-a-Player

EVERYTHING... the ONLY problem I have with this game... is I have no other human to play it with in my hometown of Pensacola... a great game with tons of add-ons that just sits in my game closet collecting dust... nobody wants to play anything anymore unless it's on a computer or console... sigh.

@@BoardGameNation looking forward to it! It's scale would definitely make it an epic series.

As someone who owns and only has played the original A&A, how does the 40th addition compare and which version is closest to the original. Thanks.

Question ??? How does the time limit rules work. you said it makes it better when friends come over to play a game that can take hours to play ??
Anniversary is limited to 6 hour of play time. The time with the most Victory Cities at the end of that time is the winner!
The tournament rules are listed in the description.
Thanks for watching!
This is why I found the 50th anniversary so cheap on eBay
The reprint definitely brought the second on the secondary market back to levels more folks can afford.

@@BoardGameNation Thanks for the information, I'll back looking to add Axis & Allies NorthAfrica to my collection when it comes out in Europe and the UK, which Is where I live and from.🙂
It is going to be a good one! :)
Gary, thank you for the update. Any idea where I can find a "complete" klist of Axis & Allies. For example, this 40th Anniversary edition is a remake of the A&A 1941, correct?
The Anniversary Edition is not a remake of the entry-level 1941.
Here is a complete list of the games: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axis_%26_Allies
Here is a video where we break down each version pre-Renegade taking over: th-cam.com/video/7kVessTrJnk/w-d-xo.html
Here is a mass unboxing of the Renegade Re-prints (before they announced Anniversary): th-cam.com/video/JWOuHWzZjUQ/w-d-xo.html
Anniversary is not a remake of 1941. It is a very different version of the game. It is bigger (and better) in every way.
I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation thanks for posting everything in one reply! I couldn’t get all of it together in one post. 😁
Happy to help! Hope to see you back again soon! :)
@@BoardGameNation of course - for every video! 🙂
The map should have been jigsaw cut and one-sided tokens is ridiculous.
I love the idea of a jigsaw cut on the board, but some people like the one-sided tokens. They use them to mark the locations of combats.
Thanks for watching!
Are there any balance change from the last anniversary release?
No. Other than some corrections, the rules, maps, and setups are all the same. Bidding is still the best way to settle any perceived imbalances.
Thanks for watching! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
How can I enter In the 2025 word championship? I didn’t know that this happening until now and I feel like it would be awsome to come. Love the content y’all make and I can’t wait to see the game overviews.
You can follow us for more news about the 2025 Axis and Allies World Championships.
Glad you are enjoying our work! Any thoughts on what you might like to see in a BGN membership plan?
@@BoardGameNation I definitely will follow as I really want to be in a championship, the membership plan could provide a discord server where members could talk and chat with the people that run this channel.
Also 1914 Championship would be awesome
Great idea! I think we can make that happen.
Thanks for your suggestion!
I would like that as well, but that event doesn't exist... at least, not yet.
I have a question, is this only available for limited time?
That's a good question. I'm not 100% sure. In the past, the Anniversary Edition has only been available as a limited run, but i don't know what Renegade is planning for this round.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video. I played a lot in the late 80’s and 90’s, and I don’t see myself playing a different version of the game. The game felt perfect as it was originally, any changes to the game feels to me like an easy money grab attempt.
To each their own. I think they are both fun and distinct enough that the feel like very different games.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Why is it missing the tech boosts you could buy dice and roll for.....is the 1986 Milton Bradley version the only version that has this? I thought that was a great part of the game, felt like things evolved as the game progressed.
This game still has Research and Development as an optional rule. They just aren't used in tournament play.
Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Oh, good to know, thx!!
Happy to help!
Having only played the original version, this looks a lot different! Italians in the game? Chinese can build? Larger China? What is this heresy? ;-)
It's a lot of fun! Give it a try!

I know what you mean. The time limits in tournaments drive a lot of the rules.
Thanks for watching!
Quick question - video says join and refers to membership cost. I hit the TH-cam join button but I think you meant something else. I very much want to join!
I appreciate your enthusiasm! We are working out the final details of the membership program. We need to make sure that we can deliver on the promises for everyone who wants to sign up.
We should have that ready in the next couple of weeks. Just in time for our first Championship video to come out! :)
@@BoardGameNation I’m one of the olde farts - played my first board war game back in 1958. I’m retired and play by phone with my bro every night. We’ve played several games by phone mostly Squad Leader series (NO ASL - HEAVEN FORBID!) and MEMOIR 44. Over the years I’ve played minis, PC and board games. We just started playing A&A Global 1940. We once had a 15 hour marathon FTF! Played a couple of rounds of Pacific without an issue and now onto Europe. THE BOARD DON’T WORK! Germany looks like this huge black blob! I know we aren’t the only ones with this issue. Any suggestions? We’re transferring the units to a separate table but that introduces more problems and issues. Any ideas will be helpful. Take care, Jack
P.S. can’t wait for you to get the player list! Solo and on line is OK BUT…….
@johncameron6357 - What part of it are you having trouble seeing? The pieces or the lines on the map?
@@BoardGameNation both actually. My Bro and I cram everything in as best we can but the units for one area don’t fit that area and we cram as best we can. I suspect from your answer others don’t seem to have this issue! We use the chips as much as possible. Ah well - we’ll see what we can do. Germany has so many units in their 3 areas that when they all are on the board it looks like a huge pile of German units with no identified area. Thanks for responding BTW. I appreciate your help and insight. I’ll check if there is a video that might help and I’ll check with the gaming stores near here and see if I can look over a few shoulders. I don’t think there are any tourneys near for at least a year. Thanks ! Not the answer I was hoping for BUT it was educational. Steve and me will figure something out!
What about the LH 3.0 rules?
The Larry Harris Gen Con 3.0 rules only apply to the 1942 Second Edition game. Tournaments for the Anniversary Edition are played with the 1942 out of the box setup and players bid for sides.
I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
@@BoardGameNation Awesome, thanks!

Nice! thanks for the video. How can I get this game to England? No shipping options here from Renegade?
I am not certain. I have seen a number of folks from the UK and Europe asking the same question. I am sure they have plans to ship it, but I don't know what they are.
Thanks for watching and being a subscriber! Any thoughts about what you might like to see in a BGN Membership plan?
I'll watch your video again about your membership plan. thanks again!
@marchanna - Thank you for all the information and feedback. I look forward to any other thoughts you might have.
@@BoardGameNation I watched the video again and this time noticed the "find a player project" which is specifically what I asked about. So I will join, depending on the cost of course. Thanks again. One last question, the price of tanks goes down to '5' in this version, I'm wondering if I should lower the cost in my copy of the 1942 second edition as well? Thanks for your time. cheers Marc
Great! Thank you! We look forward to having you as a "Citizen"!
Here is the link to join the Find-a-Player Project: bit.ly/Find-a-Player
As for the price of Tanks... I would not change it in any other version of the game. The lower price of Tanks makes the German Tank blitz really over powered. This would be especially in 1942.2.
Thanks for the feedback! Keep it coming!
Do we know yet how of if this will change how the online version is run/played.
Thanks for watching!
what edition has the special powers/rules for each country
Well, in this version, each power has optional national objectives. That is also true in the Global games. The new GIJOE game has special abilities for each power.
Is there something specific you wanted to know about?
@@BoardGameNation i remember playing a game where each country national advantages, i was wondering which edtion was that. one i remember soviets could move thier factories
Ah! Right! Good call! I had forgotten about that. That rulebook had a stack of optional national advantages in them. Those were fun.
Thank you!
I like destroyers
Cool. Thanks for watching!
It looks like the Danish island of Sealand has been given the sane color as nearby neutral Sweden. Dissapointing considering that they have had 40 years to correct the mistake...
I am not sure. I will have to look that up. Thanks for bringing it up!
What’s going on with the world map at the beginning? A lot of the geography is drawn comically incorrectly…
I am not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate?
Best edition for your average person that cannot play more than 8 hours or so.
I like it. :)
