Mods include 3inch OME4R210 lift kit from Toytec, 285/70/17 BFG KO2's, SPC adjustable UCA, RCI full steel skids, RSG sliders, TJM Snorkel, and home made diff breather.

Can’t say much about Jeeps. Never had one, but 4 runners is a legend when it comes to relatability and longevity
Honestly jeeps are not bad I've owned a few, just like the 4runner so much better for what we do. It's the Goldie Locks of Off- Road vehicles.
I’ve owned both vehicles and currently own a 2021 4Runner Venture package and love it. Jeeps are great except for the recalls, highway driving and towing and 4Runner beats the Jeep in those categories.
Proof that if you have a very capable vehicle (and a good driver) you don't need huge lifts and monster tires to do a lot of amazing off roading. I also see why you installed the snorkel at some point! Great video, thanks!

Man you BEAT that thing! I’m impressed you’re that hard on it. I always assumed 4runners to be decent off roaders with good reliability, but I didn’t expect anything like this! How is it holding up for you? Curious about the ifs and steering rack, undercarriage, etc
Yea it it doesn't have an easy life. We also tow with it all the time. Only had two issues. Rear main seal failed twice under warranty from all the the mud and dirt getting in the bell housing. Once I started blocking the inspection hole and rinsing it out with water I have not had a single issues. I also wear out the stock lower control arm bushings about every 40-50k. The RCI skids looks I did a tour in Iraq and hit a few IED's.The rest of the steering, CV's, OME lift and SPC adjustable upper control arms have been flawless no issues. As an owner of both I would say if you want a pure off road toy, you can’t beat a Jeep for ability, aftermarket support, and price. If you want an amazing daily driver with some good off road ability and insane reliability, get a 4Runner. Most generations of Jeep wranglers can do everything in this video completely stock.

I see 4runners with 200k to 300k on all oem parts. That's the single reason why 4runners are better

Gotta love the 4Runner, when I was in South America we had a few 4Runners, Hiluxes and Land Cruisers for daily everything. Never had an issue, those things are built to last for generations.

We found it like that. The people were gone already. Looked like he flipped it playing in the mud holes. They are super deep with lots of ruts.
I was on the fence about getting a 4runner until I saw this video I've watched a thousand 4runner videos but this is the best by far and it's 4yrs old when I'm watching it in 2024 watching this video this is the vehicle for me when I get My 4runner toyota should give a portion of the $ to this channel bc I kn I'm not alone greatest 4runner video ever

What size tire ? Is it 285/70 or 255/80 ? I like them a lot and have the same TRD off road rims too, but want to upgrade tires to either pizza cutters or 285's ... Oh also did you have to trim anything to fit them ?
285’s I removed the mud flaps, moved the front plastic wheel well forward a few inches at the bottom, and installed adjustable UCA’s to be able to adjust Caster with the bigger tires/3inch lift. I have a mods video here. th-cam.com/video/Zrtd5qsXDbQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6r69SFTN4FCrUD3C

Some of you all are so full of shit your eyes are brown. Firstly a Jeep has way more stability and keeps 4 wheels planted. That's why 4 Runners only wear out 3 tires cause that's all they use and they high center like crazy. My sons stock JKUR goes past jacked up, 35" tires 4 Runners all the time. Like to see you follow my setup Ruby anytime. Yes they are reliable though.
My Eyes are green? I posted this as click bait and so people could see how good 4Runners are off road. Jeeps are good off-road I’ve owned a bunch. That said the 4 Runner is a better all around vehicle and way more reliable. Most of our trips are 5,000 plus miles. I wouldn’t want to do that in a modded Jeep Wrangler.

Saved forever! Just purchased a 2021 SR5 Premium. No lift put BFG stock 265 70R17 KO2’s, Aries running boards that won’t protect a damn thing but look pretty, no locker or crawl feature.
So now I’m jealous as hell! Plus that silver is just beautiful! I got a red one.
Oh well some say a 4Runner is a 4Runner.. I would beg to differ.

I'm trying to decide between a SR5 and a Off road. How often did you need to use the rear diff locker and crawl control?
Get the Off-Road and don’t look back. I use the rear locker a lot, the crawl control not much. The extra money you pay for the Off-Road you will get back when you trade or sell it.

Mike Wright Yea they have taken a hit or two! 😂They are even better at stopping Door dings! I can’t tell you how many times they have saved the truck from parking lot idiots throwing their doors open. Last week my wife was just sitting in the truck and some old lady open her door so hard and hit the slider my wife said the whole truck moved! It took the coating off the slider she hit it so hard.

I bought this truck new in October of 2017. Pretty much beat the crap out of it since then. Besides off-roading it hauls a 6000 lb trailer around for my business. Over 170k miles and no signs of giving up.😂 Funny if you saw the truck besides some scratches on the bottom of the front bumper it’s mint. Never had any paint work Not a single dent. It’s garage kept and I wash/wax/detail it like it’s a show truck. 😂

I just posted that to get people's attention. I own a dealership and have owned and tested about every 4X4.They all have their + and -. For what we do and driving all over the country, the 4Runner is just better suited. The 4runner handle's way better on the highway and at speed on the trails. Jeep is a better rock crawler.
Dude. I love how you actually wheel your 5th gen! Absolutely loved my 14 TE when I had it. I’ll take my twin locked Jeep on 37’s for trails like the rubicon though. Just so much easier with a lot of flex.

had any issues with A/C? mine doesnt cool anymore. Tried using ac refill and no fix. Maybe its an issue with compressor?
Mine shuts off when I do water crossings or deep puddles. Other than that works good. Check and see if the compressor engages.
yep... even though the title is click bait, I'd have to agree... I've owned both and got double the life from my 4runner... even when I traded my 97 sr5 on my new limited... the v8 engine and transmission were fine after 233k miles towed skiboat and offroaded... no major issues! my wrangler was loosing compression at 95k miles.
All of that aside, this guy Jim is a very good driver! I've seen more capable rigs have issues on the trail! Nice video... scenery is amazing!

My stock Rubicon can do all that. I am sure the Rubicon is better at rock crawling due to its greater articulation of axles and front and rear lockers. The 4 Runner is likely better at higher speed handling. Enjoy your ride, but you may want to change the title.

what 4runner should i buy TDR OFF ROAD OR TDR PRO
If you are going to change the suspension and get bigger tires just get the Off-road. It’s a lot cheaper and has the same off-roading gadgets as the pro. The pro has better suspension and tires but if your changing that no reason to pay for it in the pro.
If your leaving it stock and you really like the looks of the pro, get the pro.
When I bought mine it was over a $10k difference in what I could get them for. Since I was going to mod the rig it was a no brainer.
Let me know how it works out.
Use the $10,000 difference to buy mods and it will be way better equipped than the the PRO
