I have to say this, Gary Cherone STOLE THE SHOW. He is a great live performer. He reminds me of a younger Paul Stanley. He is passionate and he moves very well on the stage. MORE THAN WORDS is a tremendous song, but EXTREME is more than that song.
Gary was a true queen fan and I thought they should of hired him especially since he sang alot of queen songs at this concert, not to mention his band stole the show just as queen did at live aid.
I saw Gary Cherone at at a Newbury Comics (music store) in Peabody, Massachusetts one time 15 years ago, not far from his home town. He was just there walking the store, shopping and shooting the breeze with one of the cashiers. He is the nicest, down to Earth person, especially for a lead singer in a rock band. He's just a normal guy. You would never have believed he had this kind of energy and presence. He can obviously turn it on.
loved this performance. Gary absolutely killed it on this one. Three things to point out: 1) @ 0.43 Brian May switches guitars to his 1984 guild Brian May guitar. he broke a string. 2) 2:23 one thing i miss and loved was that clearly Deacy is having fun playing with the band again. for better or for worse & under the circumstances, it's nice to see him smiling once again. 3) 4:55 Brian really loved this performance. you can see how grateful he seems that they were able to rock out again. He seems pleased with Gary's performance.
Wow....of all the times I watched the "tribute medley", I've never seen this! Awesome job by Gary and of course, Queen. This must be one of Gary's favorite memories.....to stand in for Freddie Mercury as frontman for Queen in front of 100,000 people at Wembley.....talk about a friggin' high!
intense performance gary grabbed the essence of this show and gave the audience what they came to see...Extreme stole the show as did Queen yrs ago....gave me goose bumps..5 stars
This is high octane, I love it! You know, I don't get people who dog Gary. Also I don't get people saying that the rest of Extreme just ride Nuno's coat tail. They are a cohesive unit, and contribute to a great live gig. Thank you for these post, and the split screen is a great effect.
I've probably said this before, but Gary Cherone is one of the few guys that can make the Big Rock Maneuver (or 'manoeuvre' in honor of Queen and Tony Iommi here) -- defined as "Proceed to _rock out_ with the other members of the band like "Look at this guy! WATCH him rock out!" by one Henry Rollins who was forced to do just that one time when he _forgot the lines_ to a new song and had to fake it -- and make it look GOOD.
The mark of each musician's talent: when a group who don't normally play together can sound as good live as on any studio recording.... THIS WAS AS AWESOME AS WHEN IT WAS BROADCAST; THANK YOU!!!
Damn, finally someone that conveyed the intensity of Freddie. Not quite the voice but for the Freddie he's missing, he makes up for with energy and showmanship. Nice job with the stage presence, and working with the band.
Garys energy was INFECTIOUS on this night -- previously with the Extreme medley and during this -- you can even see ol DEACON crack a smile ! I LOVE this thank you for posting!
I saw Extreme about 6 months after this concert in Boston a place we are both from. I always wonder what if Gary joined Queen rather then Van Halen. Cherone was much more like Freddie in terms of theatrical flair that comes out on stage.
John Dunn I often wonder the same time even though Gary cannot hit all the amazing notes that he used to one thing hasn't changed and that is his incredible showmanship!!! one of the most underrated front men ( and song writers )... EVER 👊
I have to agree, Gary (and any of the other members of Extreme as a additional instrumental) for Queen would've been a perfect fit! So your opinion is shared!
THANK YOU! And truer words were never spoken; Extreme's combined talent was barely acknowledged throughout most of their career....and I don't think it ever will.
@AlabamaAxeman -indeed i spoke with Gary in 1998 and he and i had an indepth discussion as to what Queen/Freddie meant to him - it was great to compare addictions :-)
VH3 was PANNED, and the blame unfairly fell entirely on Cherone. Maybe he's not a fit for VH - I have no opinion, never heard the album. But I love Extreme, love Queen, Extreme were huge Queen fans and their love of Queen really showed in this concert. This fucking ROCKED the show!
@@witoldwitoszekrecords3253 All I'm saying is, a band that happily had Freddie Mercury as their front man looked at this guy's dancing and thought: Nah - a bit too camp for us...
Do the sounds which can be heard from 0:09 to 0:12 come from Brian's guitar? :) Because in my opinion they sound kinda funny 😂 P.S Gary made a really good performance with Queen and also during the Queen medley as a vocalist of Extreme :)
I was at this show merely 20 feet from the front...Gary did a good job and Brian May did what he always does....deliver! Great to see Toni have his say on this iconic track.
Check out this tune that that GARY CHERONE recorded vocals on. Its under the band name "ANKLELOCK". Tune is "Comin' To Get You"- which is on ITUNES, AMAZON, NAPSTER, CDBABY and so on... His vocals kick ass!
Hammer to Fall = Queen channeling 1980s Van Halen. It's especially obvious at 2:32! This must be why it's one of my favorite Queen tunes. Between Brian's epic riffs and Freddie's legendary pipes, here's one huge band that can emulate another huge band _and we're all better off for it._
the DVD version is "heavly" edited and Gary sang it in studio. The labial isn't in sync. and Brian broke a string in the beginning of the song, he changed from the original Red Special to the Guild version...but, hey, it's only rock and roll!! AND I LOVE IT!!!
I'm starting to hate Roger and Brian for not giving this dude the opportunity instead of Lambert or Rodgers... I bet John wouldn't never leave the band with that Beast of a Vocalist on board. Imagine this Queen after Mercury: Roger Taylor + Brian May + John Deacon + Gary Cherone + George Michael + Spike Edney ¡A FUCKING BOMB!
John Deacon actually smiled- and Roger could feel his energy- TY Extreme! Gary Cheron really worked the stage- This is for you Freddie!
Of all the legendary Superstars' fine performances that night, his got "Deaky" smilin' & movin'. God Bless Him.
I have to say this, Gary Cherone STOLE THE SHOW. He is a great live performer. He reminds me of a younger Paul Stanley. He is passionate and he moves very well on the stage. MORE THAN WORDS is a tremendous song, but EXTREME is more than that song.
Rob T man, when i read this i really coinciderate that is the f****ing truth!
True..... Agree garry cherone and extreme stole the show
Rob T Kiss.... 🤣🤮 More than words????😂🤣😢🤢🤮
Yeah for sure
He is also a good singer too
I saw Extreme show years ago; Gary was amazing
You know you are big time when Tony Iommi is your rhythm guitar player!
Gary is DEFINITELY top 5 live frontmen of all time....
I like his energy..reminds me of Freddie.
Agreed. I just wrote "Finally someone that conveyed the intensity of Freddie."
Would love to see a queen, Gary cherone concert! Gary is so underrated and such a bloody talented guy!!!!
I just love seeing John having a good time here. I love you John, you are one of my heroes. Lots of love
Gary was a true queen fan and I thought they should of hired him especially since he sang alot of queen songs at this concert, not to mention his band stole the show just as queen did at live aid.
James White yeah he would've been a better fit than paul rodgers
When Gary was introduced, he got a lukewarm reception--at best. Boy oh boy, listen to that crowd at the end of the song...WOW!!!
Holy shit, Brian May and Tony Iommi on the same stage. Gary and the rest of Queen rocks as well. Rest in peace Freddie.
I saw Gary Cherone at at a Newbury Comics (music store) in Peabody, Massachusetts one time 15 years ago, not far from his home town.

Gary has the same energy as Freddie. Amazing to watch this. Just like watching Live at Wembley '86 or Live Aid '85.
Queen should have asked Gary to join the band, he was so charismatic and could do justice to Freddie
6-26-2020 This still gives me chills till this day. Gary you nailed it !!! Freddie would have been proud of you.
my god Gary was good here. no doubt he should have been in Queen after this.
Yeah. Gary Cherone would have been Freddie Mercury's replacement, while performing with Wyclef Jean in 1999, until 2004.
@@DVR01 Freddie Mercury's Replacement?!...
He had a brief stint as lead singer in Van Halen
You know Garry is good when even John Deacon smiled. If he didn’t have other stuff to do, he would’ve definitely made a good new singer for Queen.
loved this performance. 3) 4:55 Brian really loved this performance. you can see how grateful he seems that they were able to rock out again. it's like the same but different Ok, I can actually hear just Iommi playing early.
Love and miss Deacy
@Charles Addison Ociones - interesting, i did not know that about the guild. Thanks for the info,
Wow..Gary blew me away- Freddie you made some great friends..He's hot too. Don't worry Fred, I still love you the best..
There were only two singers that did the songs justice. Gary Cherone and George Michael.
Hetfield? Elton John?
MrDeadhead83 No. Hetfield, Plant, John, and Seal.
Roger Daltrey
I think Seal did an amazing job too.
Zucchero and Elton John too
Awesome seeing Iommi and May on my favorite Queen song
why is this man not with Queen, I liked Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert, but DAMN, thats a performer
Because he is the vocalist of extreme.
He did one album with Van Halen
intense performance gary grabbed the essence of this show and gave the audience what they came to see...Extreme stole the show as did Queen yrs ago....gave me goose bumps..5 stars
Hands off to Gary he gave justice to the song his energy is above the clouds 😍❤️⚖️👆👌❤️❤️❤️
Hats as well!
This is high octane, I love it! You know, I don't get people who dog Gary. Also I don't get people saying that the rest of Extreme just ride Nuno's coat tail. They are a cohesive unit, and contribute to a great live gig. Thank you for these post, and the split screen is a great effect.
Eclectic1970 Nuno sucked too!!!!
The whole Extreme band (and also Living Colour) had classic “supergroup” chops. They were great!
I love to watch this...Gary has so much energy. He has an amazing voice too.
Totalmente Fredy estaría feliz con lo que iso Gary y Extreme 😘😘
I've probably said this before, but Gary Cherone is one of the few guys that can make the Big Rock Maneuver (or 'manoeuvre' in honor of Queen and Tony Iommi here) -- defined as "Proceed to _rock out_ with the other members of the band like "Look at this guy! This is a very happy video, since Queen is loved by Gary Cherone. Gary is awesome, and can sing anything.
One of the best live versions of this song
I saw Extreme about 6 months after this concert in Boston a place we are both from. I always wonder what if Gary joined Queen rather then Van Halen. Cherone was much more like Freddie in terms of theatrical flair that comes out on stage.

I liked him in VH tbh, he was a happy medium between Sam and Dave
Magnífica interpretación. Todos mis respetos para Gary Cherone
He had chemistry with the band
I have to agree, Gary (and any of the other members of Extreme as a additional instrumental) for Queen would've been a perfect fit!
So your opinion is shared!
THANK YOU! And truer words were never spoken; Extreme's combined talent was barely acknowledged throughout most of their career....and I don't think it ever will.
acquiesce022 Extreme had talent?😂
I love him for what he did... going close to each of the band members not to mention with John Deacon ..and we can see Deaky on the go👍 🧡
Stunning performance! The best one!!!
AWESOME!!! Gary is one hell of a front man.
Great cover, perfect choice for this song!!!!
Brian: breaks a string
Tony: dont worry, I got this
Gary se lució , q transmisión de energía.
@AlabamaAxeman -indeed i spoke with Gary in 1998 and he and i had an indepth discussion as to what Queen/Freddie meant to him - it was great to compare addictions :-)

April 2020 I know I have watched this video over 40 times and I love it even more every time I watch it.
Qué energía x dios los amo 🇦🇷😘
One of the best gigs of the tribute - everytime I watch it I love it more...;-)
What energy.
Wonderful!!! Do it! Charone. You are the best.
Best performance of all time. Stop... Gary... The gods of this concert
Gary Cherone represent!!!! He was freakin' energetic and entertaining!!!
We are blessed to have had the best years and outstanding musicians who could rock the entire world. RIP Freddie.
te amo cherone!!!
This is the only moment on this show i can see John smile and follow the music
John smiled at I want to break free
amazing seeing Brian may and Tony iommi
Wow Gary + Tony and the Queen Is a Amazing superstar rockband
Gary blew the roof off.... amazing
Singer Cherone is crazier than Freddie Mercury!! Awesome performance!!
Texas gal ?
Lots of people in the comments asking why Queen didn't hire this hugely talented guy as their vocalist.
I'll tell you why:
The dancing.
Did you mean John Deacon?
@@witoldwitoszekrecords3253 All I'm saying is, a band that happily had Freddie Mercury as their front man looked at this guy's dancing and thought: Nah - a bit too camp for us...

P.S Gary made a really good performance with Queen and also during the Queen medley as a vocalist of Extreme :)
Lavely hair, and an impressive performance. He's fit that Extreme vocalist.
I love this.
what a fucking amazing singer he is fuckkk
genial interpretacion de gary cherone
I was at this show merely 20 feet from the front...Gary did a good job and Brian May did what he always does....deliver! Great to see Toni have his say on this iconic track.
Pure magic and dynamite.
Great version!
Gary Cherone really should've been the new vocalist for Queen. Between his pipes and his energy, so reminiscent of Freddie.
Check out this tune that that GARY CHERONE recorded vocals on.
Its under the band name "ANKLELOCK". Tune is "Comin' To Get You"- which is on ITUNES, AMAZON, NAPSTER, CDBABY and so on...
His vocals kick ass!
Awesome.
Roger killin' those drums :)
I just love how Brain has an issue with the guitar and Tony Iommi holds it all together, like theres no issue
What a sight
Lo da todo...
Here I am, enjoying this very much and then OMG IT'S TONI IOMMI
So much energy
... Love ...
It would be better for Queen to tour with a bunch guest singers like in this tribute concert it captures almost the old magic
Roger is on fire!!!
Hasta John mostró entusiasmo ante Cherone!
Powerful performance!!!
3:48 - Gary teleportation ;)
Tony Iommi and Brian May? Fuck yeah!
Wow, wow, wow.....❤
the DVD version is "heavly" edited and Gary sang it in studio. The labial isn't in sync. and Brian broke a string in the beginning of the song, he changed from the original Red Special to the Guild version...but, hey, it's only rock and roll!! AND I LOVE IT!!!
Marco Bordignon Who broke there labia?
Am I Ever Gonna Change... Fuck yeah
love this
Love JD’s little twist on his bass line @ 1:53
The only singer on Earth who could have effectively replaced Mercury.
Yeah. Gary Cherone would have been Freddie Mercury's replacement, while performing with Wyclef Jean in 1999, until 2004.
Forget Wyclef Jean. Queen is a legendary band. He could've joined Queen and stayed with them. He would be perfect for them.
When I said that, I meant that Wyclef Jean performed once with Queen in 1999.
rock machine!!!!!!
Gosto mais desse vocalista, essa musica tambem faz uma outra e melhor estória
Thank you freddie!!
Brian May!!
I'm starting to hate Roger and Brian for not giving this dude the opportunity instead of Lambert or Rodgers... I bet John wouldn't never leave the band with that Beast of a Vocalist on board.
Imagine this Queen after Mercury: Roger Taylor + Brian May + John Deacon + Gary Cherone + George Michael + Spike Edney
¡A FUCKING BOMB!
dam, had NO idea Cherone can get it like that !!
Fucking brilliant!
I completely agree.
