Thanks for this video. One thing you didn't take into consideration was the cost of Fusion 360. It is only free for non-commercial use. So if you sell the item you make, you have to pay $70 a month for Fusion 360! So you have to sell 14 items a month just to pay for your Fusion 360 license.
Yeah that is a consideration too. If you make less than $1000 you're ok to use the personal license from what I remember and they have a startup license that is free I think and allows you to sell up to 100k but don't quote me on that. I'm also not recommending this but there's no way for autodesk to know what 3D modelling software you used to produce your 3D printed part... so just don't tell anyone.
I find that if I don't do the math, I can justify almost anything lol! The hope would be, I suppose, to sell lots of these at once, like maybe a 4-pack, and pay less per item on packaging, but then you need more box sizes on hand, etc.
Ignorance truly is bliss haha. Yeah I could probably fit 3-4 of these in one of those boxes which would improve margins. But finding something you can sell for much higher prices is definitely the move.
I think the biggest problem people make with selling 3d printed parts is the price. The market is over saturated and it doesn’t cost that much to print a part. I run a Bambu x1c all day and all night and I can tell you it doesn’t affect my energy bill much. Just because people sell stuff at a certain price doesn’t mean that’s what something is worth. If you sell for lower you’re gonna make your money back a lot faster than you would if you were to sell at what everyone else is selling at because people are willing to take a risk on something that’s 3d printed if they’re not spending as much on something and if your product is good they’ll come back and buy more. Everyone’s hurting for cash rn. Sell for lower = make more
Mistakes in calculations, ok as it is hobby you are not calculation your time, but what you should is ware and tare of machine. Also failed parts and filament you spend for optimalisations.
ADVISE PLEASE- HOW TO GET SOMEONE WHO CAN PRINT IN METAL ?- MY UNCLE HAS BUILT A SCALE MODEL OF THE WORLD'S FIRST STEAM TURBINE POWERED SHIP ,THE TURBINIA-; HE WANTS TO FIT A WORKING MODEL STEAM TURBINE ENGINE INTO IT-WHERE DO I GO TO FIND SOMEBODY WHO I CAN PAY TO DO THIS FOR ME FOR HIS BIRTHDAY - I WOULD PREFER EXACT COPY OF THE ENGINE, BUT PENNY WORKING TURBINE MODEL WILL DO
Pay off? I'm from the "buy high, sell low" club. I never make money... 😂😂😂
lol hodl on my friend.
I can't believe I'm not alone in this club
Lmao I thought it’s only me lol
Excellent job! Very informative. I love the way you used the spreadsheet.
I find it that a lot time Uline boxes are not really cheap and the shipping is insane, Staples normally is more economical for me.
Hadn't thought about staples. Can't remember the last time I went to one. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the overview!
No worries!
Bulk is now CA$17.99 when you buy 10+ rolls(or refills), or 19.99 for 4.
Good to know.
You forgot box tape, stuffing, and shipping label

Interesting that you show all the prices for bambu printers by themselves except for the x1c which you have shown as a combo...
Those are all the prices for the individual printer without the AMS. X1-Carbon starts at $1,549 CAD. The combo is $1,869 CAD.
@@3DPrintStuff My bad...With the exception of the X1 the rest of the prices looked like what i remember the printers costing last i checked.
Thanks for the video. I would have went with the title, 'How many parts do you have to sell to pay off your 3d printer, a hobbyist perspective'
You’re welcome. The math scales regardless of if you’re a hobbyist or professional.
Thank you
You're welcome
